Baby Tortoises All Over our Yard!

- On todays adventure we are going to give you an update on our tortoises, but we also have a very exciting NEW SURPRISE! We caught what could be a new invasive species to Florida and luckily we were able to provide it with a new home here at the sanctuary! This species gets HUGE and would fit in perfectly here in Florida's warm habitats. We have also been having a lot of redcoat tortoises being born, so stay tuned for lots of fun at the sanctuary!

Sorry to hear about the issues and condolences! Had a friend visit a different country, He started having major stomach problems, eventually leading to more issues. His Dr checked him for everything and he dealt with the worst stomach pain imaginable. 20 years, multiple Dr's and he looked like death, he talked to his Dr and they said they thought it was bacterial and they tested him for everything we had in the states and nothing came up, he asked about bacteria found in the country he visited and they said no, they checked and sure enough, a bacteria that was very resistant to most antibiotics and only one treatment, damage was done but he started recovering but still had issues, it had affected his thyroid, got that fixed and he is doing so much better. Lesson- sometimes even Dr's have to be told what to do for your own sake, reiterate you were in Ecuador and anything there could be something messing his stomach/GI tract up. Multible Dr's over a 20 year period never finished drawing that line for my friend.

Rhett has gone to multiple different doctors, and after begging for parasite/bacteria tests and dewormer/antibiotics, all said no even though we kept saying we were in Ecuador drinking the water etc. it’s crazy how no doctors will listen. We ended up getting a meds in Costa Rica! Lol. After his scopes, they think he did have a major bacteria or parasite overload that was treated with the meds from Costa Rica but already tore up him stomach. We hope one day Rhett’s feeling normal again! I’m glad your friend is doing better too 💕💕

I have lepard Tortoises. My daughter gave us eggs from hers & we incubated them. Only 3 made it. They are 5 yrs old now & pretty cool Tortoises. They follow our 3 Great Danes & Shepherd around. I think they are cute ❣️

I can identify with your health issues as I’ve had close to 400 kidney stones over 50 years and I 60% blind from Stargardt’s disease. I pray that things will improve for you all and my deepest sympathy for your loss. I always enjoy your videos.

That's wonderful to see all those tortoises. I'm wondering, do you have any plans to breed native tortoise species for release? That would be an amazing contribution to the U.S.'s dwindling biodiversity. Otherwise, I love watching your herping adventures. Thank you for sharing those with the world.

A cousin of mine served an LDS mission in Ecuador, was all over the country. He was regularly tested for a variety of GI parasites -- apparently very commonly contracted there through both the food (mostly vegetables) & water (even the ice).

I’m always getting dirtaaaaaay! Lol. We’ve heard from so many people that they regular take dewormer and medication when living and visiting Ecuador, we will have to be better prepared before we go again lol! The python was 17ft+ it was a few years ago so I don’t remember to the exact inch! Lol

So interesting, sorry to hear about your issues, hope things improve, love turtles, here in Michigan I always try and help turtles get across the road, so sad to see when one that doesn’t make it across the road, not sure if one of the babies would have a good life here in the north?
Leopard tortoise are actually the 4th largest tortoise the problem theit size is very dependent on the locality some are 12 some are 16 and some are 24 those 2 foot and bigger are the one that got them the title as 4th largest

Losing Grandpa and Copper must be really hard to deal with. We lost one of our favorite kitties to cancer in 2020. She was only 5 years old. Kidney stones are rough. Ouch. I hope you are all over with them? I hope Ret's GI issues can be cleared up as soon as possible. GI issues are super annoying. I always look forward to your videos.
Wow only 5 years old, it’s always so said when the young ones get cancer 💔 sorry for your loss. I have not had that pain in many months but I still never got a diagnoses or treatment so I’m always waiting for the pain to randomly come back. Rhett’s getting better but still has bad days so hopefully he’ll be back to normal soon! Thank you 💕

Depends, average is 4 eggs to a clutch and multiple clutches a year. We’ve found over 20 babies in the last week so far

did you guys drink the tap water or have ice in your drinks in ecuador? that could be causing the health problems. other countries, specifically ecuador does not have clean water they tell you not to drink the tap water or get ice in your drinks because of it
Yes unfortunately drank tap water in several occasions and even mixed up our drinking water with non potable rinsing water by mistake one day. Ate food with locals, including live grubs. We’ve never had a problem on our travels until Ecuador. Learned our stomachs are not Ecuador tough lol
Damn she’s sexy, respects🤘Such awesome tortoises, love them and even though I live in SoFLo and would love to have some, I don’t have the time. People might think well what is so hard about caring for one just put it in your backyard and let it eat your grass etc etc etc, but any responsible animal owner knows it not that simple. Plus you have to make sure they do not dig out of whatever fenced in backyard you have, so you need to lay concrete down etc etc. Also with weather changes at times etc I just don’t feel right now like they would get the care and attention they so much deserve. One of these days I hope to get a couple.🐢
