We really do….. kids are loving being able to follow decent instructions, cheese and onion quiche today. They did a good job with that, Swiss roll is a challenge for most with the rolling up so we will see what they think of that . Thank you for your content
@@user-dy2px8gt1g My pleasure, great to hear you have got the kids baking.

Thanks a lot and great to hear you are trying the recipes, that's what it's all about.
This was AMAZING!! Who knew making a Swiss roll could be soooo easy!!! At least you certainly make it look easy! You’ve inspired me to give it a try. In Canada we have chocolate rolls like this with a white filling(no idea if it’s an icing or more of a whipped cream that fills it) I’ve never made one before but I have everything to make it. Thank you, oh and do you have a video on how to make a lovely custard like you were enjoying with it?🥰❤️
Thanks a lot, hope your swiss roll turns out great and yes a pouring custard video is coming soon.
HAPPY EASTER 🐣 Love this definitely going to have a go. Never done a Rolly Polly Sponge before.
Keep them coming
Happy Easter to you too. Loads more videos to come. Hope your swiss roll turns out great.
Remember making this at school!long time ago,it didn’t look perfect but it tasted lovely and that’s what mattered most! Thankyou for your recipes❤
Thanks a lot....yes its a good old school recipe....hope you give it a try.
Happy Easter to my favorite baker. Looks like another winning recipe. Thank you!
Happy Easter to you too and thanks very much.
Wonderful tip to trim the sides of the cake before cooling as the crispy edges interfere with rolling! Brilliant ✔✔
Thanks a lot.
Thinly sliced, it also makes a great indulgent sponge for a trifle base too. Loving your 'back to basics' recipes. Thank you.
Thanks a lot. I have a trifle recipe coming in the summer.
That looks amazing, going to put the oven on now...😮
I hope it turns out great.
Greeting Dave Happy Easter another school time memory to remember abd baking and affordable receipe. Thank you so much for sharing lovely wonderful video's 😊
My pleasure and happy Easter to you too.
I always give you a thumbs up at the beginning of the video because i know it's going to be good. This is my husbands favourite. I'm going to make one tomorrow. Thanks for another great recipe 😊

I watched this yesterday and I forgot to comment - it had been a long day! This looks delicious. Thanks for sharing the recipe x
My pleasure, hope you try the recipe.
Good timing since I’ve got the Bakewell slice tray bake in the oven using your shortcrust pastry and MrPaulsPantry filling recipe.
20mins to go. Time for a wonderful Baking On A Budget recipe video 😎
Thanks a lot, hope the bakewell tart turns out great.
@@BakingOnABudgetthe first one turned out of the tin all over the oven door because it slipped off the oven glove - rookie mistake.
The second one I’ll trust went ok because I left it with my uncle and didn’t taste that one.
The first one has been half eaten and was delicious with some Madagascan vanilla custard.
That would be a nice recipe to try and figure out to share with us…it’s around £2+ at Lidl, Aldi, Morrisons. I didn’t like the other supermarket versions
@@Infiniti25 Persistence always pays off, and yes Madagascan custard sounds good. I have a pouring custard recipe to come. Thanks.
I just made your jam roly poly. Didn't have the right size baking tray, didn't have baking powder (used self raising flour) didn't have jam. It turned out well. Had to rush to the corner store for the jam but it looks good. Will make custard to have with it for dessert tonight. I was tempted to use the marmalade I had. It might have been OK if I made the custard a bit sweeter. Where there's a will there's a way.
Yes you sometimes just have to use what you've got to hand. Hope you enjoy it.
I love seeing you enjoying your creations. Looks delicious, thank you. 🤗
It was scrumptious and did not last long in my house. Thanks.
Thank you so much, sir. What a lovely quick sponge❣️I always enjoy your recipes and your teaching style. Happy Easter to you.
Thanks a lot and happy easter to you too.
Looks lovely. Happy Easter.
Thanks a lot, and happy easter to you too.
Freeze off cuts of cake for triffles or to make cake pops.
I just EAT them😂🤣😂
I know, many things to do with them, but I shared mine with the birds in the back lane. Thanks.
YES!!!
Thanks.
Thx for sharing!
My pleasure. Thanks.
One of my favourite childhood cake with hot custard. 👌
Yes delicious with the custard. hope you give it a try.

My pleasure and thanks a lot.

My pleasure, hope it turns out great.
Outstanding recipe! Cheers!
Thanks very much.
I love seeing you eat with gusto!! ❤
Yes, it was a delicious cake. Thanks
thank you wonderful 🥰
My pleasure, hope you give it a try.
Brilliant that looks amazing
Thanks a lot, it was delicious.
Thank you so much for this. Always wanted to try making one. Could I make this with cream inside along with the jam? if so at what stage would I put it in?
Yes you could also put cream inside on top of the jam, just take care when rolling it up. Thanks.
Looks like a great recipe for a Swiss roll. I've often seen home bakers coat final roll with granulated sugar.
Also I'd make a little trifle with the offcuts hehe.
My family call a jam roly poly one made with pastry, baked already rolled up with a sugar syrup poured over it when baking.
Yes some put sugar on the top but I thought with the jam and sugar in the recipe it would be sweet enough. Thanks.
Looks delicious! I haven’t made this in a long time - thanks for the reminder. Hope you had a good Easter.😊
Thanks a lot, hope you give it a try.
This made my mouth water. I haven’t had this lovely dessert in ages. We’ve a cooler spell of autumn weather coming, just the time to bake this .
I hope it turns out great. Thanks.
another great recipe thank you
My Pleasure, hope you try it.
Oh how I wish I could sit at your table and taste your wonderful recipes! Yours are so simple and easy to understand. Thank you!

Lovely Swiss roll x
Thanks a lot, it was delicious.
Love your channel..absolutely love it
Thanks very much.
Looks so good again.❤️🇨🇦🐕
Thanks a lot.
Just perfect. Simple recipe, no faff! Brilliant! I've never put oil into a cake before and I'm wondering if it makes the cake easier to manipulate?
Happy Easter 🐣, Always wanted to make swiss roll thank you 🌺🌹🌻 I made 🥪🍞🥵 bread hot out of the oven..
It lasr makes the cake a little more moist and yes less brittle.
Great demo Dave. I also like a slice with a cuppa, and sometimes put a spoonful or two of buttercream icing in with the jam. I wait for it to cool completely when doing this
I can never wait and always tuck in when it's still a little warm. Thanks.
I live in Canada I love watching your videos your recipes are so easy and they look so good I'm going to try a few I hope they come out as good as yours
Welcome from the UK, Hope your baking turns out great. Thanks.
Oh wow that looks sooooo good 😊thank you

Love your pans and baking sheets…you keep it real
They have been in our various kitchens for as long as I can remember, I couldn't think of baking without them. Thanks.

Thanks it was really nice.
Oh my goodness that looks so gorgeous , kids today would love that … proper food ❤
Thanks a lot, Hope you give it a try.
Brilliant video,,,fantastic content. 💯💯💯
Thanks a lot.
Nice one Dave 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks a lot.
This looks great! I always thought I could never make a Swiss roll, as I couldn’t imagine how to prevent it breaking up when rolled. The techniques here are so simple, and not time-consuming at all. It looks delicious.
Thanks, hope you give it a try and enjoy it.
The edge trimmings make good trifle sponges. Waste not, want not!
Yes I could have kept them for a trifle, but the birds got those ones.
You make it look so easy! Nice and light with lots of eggs. NB Jam roly poly is heavier, made with suet, this is Swiss Roll, much nicer.
Yes, that is what I thought about jam roly poly, certainly in this part of the country it is made with suet and steamed.
Yes the suet version is a bit heavier, but this was delicious and light. Hope you give it a go. Thanks.
I just love swiss roll.. will buy ingredients on pay day, next week.. l don't have eggs..and can't afford them before then..
Thanks....hope you enjoy it....it was delicious.
Perfection 😊
Thank you. Hope you give it a try.
@BakingOnABudget I certainly will 😃 I am keen Baker myself so love trying new things.
That looks really easy to make. I'm definitely going to give that a try and let you know how it turns out for me.
Yes let me know how it comes out. Thanks.
almost a madeira recipe. I will try to make it this week. Great channel.
Yes very similar sponge to madeira and Victoria sponge. Thanks.
Saya suka cake ❤
saya juga, harap anda mencubanya
@@BakingOnABudget Ok
A lovely treat and could be a Yuletide log at Christmas wirh chocolate icing thank you for sharing 😊
Thanks, you could also pot a little cocoa powder in the mix.
Omg it looks good! You make me laugh , thats the best bit eating it x
Thanks a lot...there has to be a taste test.
Hello again yet another fantastic recipe jammy Swiss roll as usual you explain everything so clearly really enjoying your channel thank you
Thanks a lot, hope you give it a go it's really delicious.
Another great recipe! I'm thinking Nutella in the center with a dusting of cocoa on top of the roll. Oh wait! Lemon Curd! That would be amazing. My English mother would approve of this whole heartedly.
Yes there are a few variations, You could put cocoa powder in the batter mix for a chocolate swiss roll. Hope you give it a try.
I've not made a Swiss roll in years, will give this a go a it looks lovely. By the way, your minced beef and onion pie was excellent, so easy to make and the pastry was lush, thanks.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the pies, scotch pies coming soon. Thanks.
❤
Thanks a lot.
When you are able to set up a Patreon account please let me know. I will contribute. I'm making those delicious scones all the time now. I can't believe how easy they are to make. Since I've stopped trying to make them like our American biscuits, they've turned out perfect every time.
I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the scones, I don't have any plans to set up a patreon at the moment but if I do I will announce it in a future video. Thanks very much.
This was my mothers recipe. She didn't use oil./a tear to my eye.Did your apple pie for easter many compliments. Thanks and all the best to you and your family.
Thanks very much, great to hear the apple pie went down well.
Another lovely recipe...l would be decadent and add whipped cream for a special occasion ❤
Yes whipped cream would be good....warm custard works well too. Thanks.
Love the channel. Do you have a recipe for scotch eggs? Keep the videos coming 👍
Thanks a lot, I've never done scotch eggs but I will look into it. Thanks.
You are truly a gift of a human. Keep making these videos. Please, Is there any chance of showing us how to make a Victoria sponge cake?
Thanks a lot and yes Victoria Sponge is due in a couple of weeks, after chocolate fudge cake and sausage rolls.
@@BakingOnABudget I am so looking forward to learning more from you
Can you please make bread pudding my nan used to make it and i would love to see if i can ❤
Hi, Bread pudding is on the list. Thanks.
Them crusty bits should be in custard with a cuppa for your efforts
I’d probably drizzle honey on them and a bit of Greek yoghurt on the side
@@Infiniti25 Greek yoghurt mixed with banana Nesquik is good
@@union310until you realise nesquik has dextrin/maltodextrin in it.
Have it sparingly and enjoy it when you do!
I know, but I thought the birds might like them, and I think they did. Thanks.
😊😋💐
Thanks a lot.
I love this channel. Have you made a crumpet clip yet?
Thanks a lot....crumpets coming soon.
👍💕
Thanks a lot.
My mum used to make this recipe Swiss roll. I have an Asda whisk and for the price they do the job.😊
Thanks, and yes the whisk really makes this sort of cake batter much lighter.
When are you coming out with your cookbook of all these recipes? I sure would like to buy it.
It's something I might look into later in the year. Thanks.
Looks awesome, do you have a chocolate version of this?
Thanks, I do have a choc version of the swiss roll, I'll see if I can video it in the future.
Looks delicious! How do you make the custard?
Thanks it was scrumptious, I have a pouring custard video to come.
that one thing ive never been able to do . roll a swiss without it carking
It's got to cool a little and take the edges off if they are crisp. Thanks.
Is the custard made from scratch or out of a tin? I have to say, your recipes are very easy to follow.Well done.
I cheated here and bought ready made custard, but I have a pouring custard video to come. Thanks.
Traditional English jam roly-poly uses steamed suet dough, so this isn't a roly-poly. It is, however, a delicious-looking Swiss roll, so I'll be turning one out shortly ❤️
Yes your right, I have always used both names but yes it is a swiss roll, I hope yours turns out great. Thanks for watching.
Have always put off trying to make swiss roll but gave this a go today , it was surprisingly quick and wasn't as difficult as I'd often imagined!! 🤣
Was lovely and light, though a tad sticky on the outside, is this usual? Did stick a bit to the baking paper after rolling so some of the outside stuck but wasn't a big deal and everyone enjoyed it.
Didn't check before I started and we only just had enough jam left to put in it!! Will maybe add a bit more next time, will definitely make this again, thank you 🙂
I would just put a little more grease or lard on the paper and that should stop it from sticking, and yes it can be a little sticky with the sugar. Thanks again.
@@BakingOnABudget Thank you. I did put some lard on the sheet on the tray but not on the 2nd sheet, will try to remember for next time. Cake was still lovely though and has all been polished off!
Could I exchange the oil for melted butter? Looks fantastic.
I would stick with the oil, I've never tried butter but I suspect it will make the cake a little tougher when cooled.
