A bit more jam for me but overall, I have to say... stonking cooking, proper food. Well done. And I agree with Ian, custard all the way, as much as will fit in the bowl. 😂

I am so delighted to have found your channel, everything you cook looks and am sure tastes delicious, all my favourite food and happy memories, I can actually toast it on screen. Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful recipes. ❤️
Dinner Lady you rock! I’m so glad I stumbled upon your videos. I’m hooked! My grandfather was born in Southampton in 1901 and emigrated to Canada then NY in 1917. He was just a young lad. He ended up becoming a chef. I miss all his recipes. I made your Toad in the Hole and Pigs in a Blanket last night. It was great. My neighbors from Columbia really thought it was frog meat! Their faces were pure shock when I named the dish. We laughed after I clarified. Anyway you are the best and so is your husband. Love his T-shirt. You call the cling wrap, plastic wrap, Saran wrap or film anything you want! Ignore the busybodies. Now tell me, what is suet? Does anyone know if there is an equivalent of it in America? I want to make this! Thanks again, you are the best!!!!
Oh yes arguably my all time favourite school dinner pudding along with strawberry tart ,jam sponge cake with coconut sprinkle on top and chocolate sponge and loads of thick custard 👍👍
OMG this brings back childhood memories. My mum had a copy of my school cook book and she copied the recipe and made it lots of times. Back in the day when there were no supermarkets only your small corner store in the little country towns particularly.
I watch a few food channels so yours popped up. I’m so glad it did I love your cooking. I’m sure your subscribers will soon raise as more people come across you! My two favourite things from childhood were Manchester tart and Russian slice (I think that was its name-I've not seen it for 40 years). Manchester tart was sweet pastry filled with custard with a layer of jam at the bottom and sprinkled with dessicated coconut. Russian slice was something to use up stale sponge-I think it was sponge crumbled up, mixed with jam and melted butter with rum or rum flavouring. I think the base was either a thin layer of sponge or pastry-my gran had loads of Be-Ro recipe books and I think the Russian slice was in that.
Thankyou, I have been trying to find a recipe for Granny’s roly poly she used to make us. The only thing differently she did was sprinkle sugar over the roly poly before she cooked it. She also made an orange roly poly with marmalade and orange slices inside .

Made this the other day and it came out really nice. I used 50g caster sugar instead of a tbsp. Good recipe to use up the last of the jam from several jars. The bairn loved it.
If theres one thing I'd break my carnivore diet for. Great video, thanks for making it look so easy. Btw, when cooking the custard, leave the sugar out til the last minute, add it really at the end. No worries about sticking to the bottom then.
My mums favourite pudding. I didn't realise it was so simple. I'll cook it for her next time she comes to eat. Love the channel by the way. I have just found you x
Jam Roly Poly is a traditional ‘steamed’ pudding , not cooked in the oven. That would make it crunchy. I know that shops sell it like this, but it’s not how it originally was xx
Suet doesn't get the love it deserves. Well, it does in this house as my usual Sunday treat, as it will be tomorrow, is a chicken thigh casserole with cheesy dumplings. I don't really do puddings these days as it's been a long time since I had to convince the current Mrs F to get her drawers off, but I'd kill a man to get to a lemon cheesecake.
Scallops in lime and soy, paella and a sticky toffee pudding got the deal sealed. It's been 18 years and I'm still for her to sober up and call the police @@thedinnerlady9180
Question? When you give oven temperatures you give fan oven temp then drop the temp for non fan ovens. In my recipe books the fan temp is lower?? I have a fan oven so not a problem for me, just asking for others. Loving your wholesome home cooked meals. Thank you.🇬🇧
If the pastry isn’t sweet could you do a savoury version of this if you aren’t a sweet tooth? I think I’d like it with sausage meat or meat paste and gravy 😋or am I just describing a sausage roll? Oh could you please make sausage rolls?
I now have made Thursday my special baking day since I made your bacon and egg pie, omg that was lush and I took some to my mother in laws as she is in a residential home and hates the food they make. She now looks forward to my Friday visit with some scrummy food for her. 😂😊 tyfs . Btw I like the way you normally pronounced film. 😊
The whole "cling fillum" thing reminds me of a news article I saw on TH-cam recently of a girl from Birmingham who woke up one morning suddenly having lost her strong Brummie accent and speaking PERFECT Geordie instead. At first I thought this was a wind up, but it turns out it really is an actual phenomenon. She appeared on This Morning and countless Geordies commented on the fact that she clearly wasn't faking the accent. The Geordie accent is adorable however I will say that Newcastle is the only place I have ever been where I really did struggle to understand, and that's after training on Auf Wiedersehen Pet!
My mum used to do a jam suet sponge pudding in the microwave, might sound weird to some but it was bloody awesome. Is that something you’ve ever done? Ps thanks for this recipe, you’re fantastic 👍
I live in Australia and am 73 years old. I haven't had jam roly poly since the 1960s. First my Grandmother used to make it when I was young in the 1950s and my Mum used to make it too but when I became a teenager somehow our diet changed and Mum no longer made the very yummy jam roly poly and the delicious custard that goes with it. Brings back happy memories.
