I wish people were a bit more honest. I was looking at the e55 with the 402k miles to purchase it and the transmission is toast. Why not mention this in your video. Also its not all original as you state in your video, I have the carfax right now on hand. The transmission was replaced and its toast again. Dont lie to people and make these videos! Anyone that doesnt believe me i will email you.
LegitStreetCars it's good you updated the video, but I don't really appreciate having to watch a 10-minute video to find out you didn't Dyno the car without problems.
I don't know any other way of relaying the message that I made an update to this video. It's very short and shows you the 402,000 Miles E55 on the dyno after I fixed it. Please watch that one. Here is the link again.th-cam.com/video/6mgworyAJn0/w-d-xo.html
It does not even matter if the difference is over 300k miles. The difference is , how it has been used , by whom and what maintenance was done. Without watching the video , and assuming a 400k miles , one (car-loving) owner , and good maintenance , the car will have about same or exactely the same amount of hp/torque than new from factory. On the other hand an abused , multiple owned, 65k miles car with no decent maintenance , will most likely not even come close to 75% of its original power output.
IwillBwaiting, I agree with your points about who owned the car and how it was maintained, and that, that will make a difference to the hp/torque/engine of the car. I would be curious to find out however, if a very high mileage well maintained car would still have the same power, as a identical low mileage well maintained car. Common sense would say that all the engine elements would be worn out much more in the high mileage car, thus the engine output would be worse. Question is, how much worse... etc...
Common sense should tell you that abuse will change the state of anything. If the use is normal and regular , even after 10 years or with 400k miles , its power will be in the same or almost same condition. If 5 drivers use a car for 5 years and they all do a mileage of about 12.500 miles per year , but one will shift at 2000 rpm , one will shift at max rpm the other at 1500 rpm....etc etc..One will floor it every time he/she gets the chance...the other might go like a snail....every year the car will have to get used to different styles , and that will break a car. I know many people who rather buy a car which has done up to 5 times the average mileage in a shorter time period then buy an older car with less mileage. Reason : the car with the high mileage has probably been a (one owner) salesman's car and used mainly to cover great distances , and most times under contract has had proper maintenance. The pther car will have less mileage but might have had 3-4 owners , all with different styles , and maybe not all the proper maintenance done...
Oh , btw , I am not a mercedes fan , although I do like some of the models , but this engine is truly great , and very reliable , but nothing lasts forever...
I just replaced that pump on my E55. Intake air temps while simply driving around town were dangerously high (170-180F) before changing the pump. There's no check engine light or any system that will tell you if this pump has failed - just seriously degraded performance. Those 170-180F numbers were on days with 70 degree ambient air temps. Changing the pump brought down the baseline intake temps to about 110-120F, and suddenly I have 100 more horsepower when I decide to beat on it... Critical item on the M113K engine that is very often overlooked...
i have become obsessed with older, high mileage AMG's. I think the m113 engine was a highly underrated yet durable beast that still has lots of untapped potential. I really look forward to the next video.
Learned a lot about the E55 supercharger cooling and electronic clutch - and dyno’s can be tough to read on high HP cars. I like the highway rematch idea! Careful out there ha.
James Friedman you call that crazy? Come over here in Denmark and see! I saw an old 2013 Mercedes Benz Vito 116 on a car selling website and it HAS 465.000 miles on it and it’s listed for almost $40.000!!! Now that is what you call crazy!!!
I just dynoed my Honda civic, mugen cams, spoon exhausts, kpro ecu, garret gt35 turbo charger.. It made 1hp, and minus-6ft/lbs of torque, I'm actually quite proud I have the most powerful Honda ever made.
As a e55 owner there cars are truly long lasting powertrain is bulletproof. Weak points are cooling and airmatic suspension as they tend to leak. First thing i did was went with kw v2 coilovers and upgraded cooling before i went with upper and lower pulleys. My stock put down 409rwhp and 456trq. after upgrades it did 533rwhp and 577trq on 93oct. They will take all the abuse that you can throw at them there is no on ramp that i won't go all out i love these cars
"Most importantly. ..they're both silver". Yeah, if you ever decide to compare HP rating of 2 cars, don't worry about then having exact motors, transmissions or gear ratios...but definitely make sure they are identical in color...Makes all the difference. Matching color is after all most important.
Oh, and you make another 5min long video talking nonsense again, damn, I just found your channel basically, and I think this is a shitty way to get subs.
Alex, I've got 478,000 kays on my 1994 W124 Merc. E280 & it's still in pristine condition. I like the AMG V8's but their 1994 DOHC 6 is awesome. Seeya from Australia.
Good, informative, BRIEF video that gets to the point. Thank you! Other car hosts try so hard to be funny or constantly grin at the camera to prove they are fun dudes. It too often gets in the way of good info. Here we have issue, diagnosis, solution with a bit of education. And best of all, interesting info with no blatant egotism. Well done!
Hey man I like your channel! Putting you on my recommended channels. I drive an 06 E55 daily, love these cars. Line 'em up! Looking forward to your new videos!
Maintenance is not too bad................for someone who works on their own car. A few hundred bucks here and there for an older model, and some SSTs (special service tools) will keep those tires smoking and a smile on your face. If you plan on taking it to the shop, then forget it.
What did you expect? It has 402k miles obviously it's not gonna work as a brand new car, it has a waste of too many use, so the power will be less than the other E55 with less mileage
came here from WP but I have a stupid question. seems like the 06' at 2:18 wanted to break loose from Dyno and spinning the tires !?!? and only putting out 380 whp ? and the car weighs how much ? something is not making sense correct me if I'm wrong but seems like more power than what your saying
The limiter was preventing full power. The E55 makes 415whp in good conditions and 450wtq+ on Mustang Dyno. The spinning is most likely from the tiny stock 265 rear tires that these cars have.
Also, I forgot to mention that he was letting the car kick down rather than keep the car in gear and build speed, making the wheels spin. The important thing is that I don't he had the car in dyno mode which means he got an incorrect reading.
I call BS here... 1st run of the 2003 was totally normal, if the SC clutch disengaged it will not just re-engage during the run and put out 300+ hp. my pump went out before. may have gone out after the 1st run but not during.
Major Cocklikar Acoolant pump beginning to fail doesn't automatically shut off the super charger. What you saw was in the first run the iats were high enough to reduce timing and thus power but not high enough to shut off the blower. second run the iats were so high it just turned it off completely
LegitStreetCars mine either shut off completely or was on, no reduction in power or timing beforehand, I'm not buying it, 50hp reduction in power with 402k miles seems about right to me, we should as +Ben Rawcliffe what he thinks.
Major Cocklikar LegitStreetCars SC system shuts down (dis. clutch) at 200F IAT and at -39F IAT. I know the upper and lower limit as: A) I had a bad pump (CM30 replacement) B) I had a failing IAT sensor that thought I was in the arctic. In B, the car would engage the starter and crank for the full duration (10sec I think), then start on the second try after a few cranks, then spit out some smoke (as it obviously was tricked to think it was getting -41C air (the lowest reading from the failing IAT sensor)
Use the Mercedes 'dyno mode' and there would be no limiter on the engine . This will give you better dynamometer results. This would be accessed via the gauge cluster menu and steering wheel controls.
The one you show pictured looks to be a cm30 they are not as good as the stock bosch pump. A new sls amg pump CWA100 is better than most other water to air pumps. But for this test you need a stock pump which is the bosch pump.
absolutely correct sir you charger went into limp... your lucky it was only the cooler pump my main pulley separated on the dyno! 7k later car is sold.
Kudos to you for maintaining this vehicle I have two cars benz w 115 and 123 Both vehicles do not run very badly The w 115 car was the official car used by the world’s first prime minister My dream is to get those 2 cars running It is not easy The politicians of sri lanka have stolen the national economy and the whole country is in debt to the world The country is now being run by IMF and world aid Everything is taxed Just breathing is not taxed I have seen benz cars abandoned in some countries which are in the best condition Both my cars have about 60% damage to the bumper Recovery is difficult If you have the body of the w 115 or 123 cars in you possession, I would be grateful if you could provide me with the body of those cars. So the 400,000 mile E55 had less power, Well Surprise Surprise Sgt Carter, Yes that Charge air water pump will cause the eng to be limited on Power but was the check engine light on? I work on these cars myself in an Arizona Benz Dealer, 400,000 miles does a lot of wear on a transmission, super charger, not to mention the engine, it self, Yes that electric pump of low coolant in that circuit will limit power however a lot gets factored in to Rear Wheel Horse Power and the 400,000 mile car did decent considering all the factors. By the way , your channel is awesome and you for sure know your shit on Mercedes Benz w211 cars. Some of our viewers need to gain an attention span of over 30 seconds and maybe they would learn something.
Hello, have you ever had an issue with w211 07 key fob not locking or unlocking doors? Battery's have been replaced. Lastly, have you had an issue with the radio not playing Fm radio stations? Fuses have been checked. Thanks for any help you van give.
They are rated at 475 hp. At less than 400 hp I would consider that engine to be broken. I would be shocked to hear that the ratings were taken at the crank. No manufacturer has done that since about 1971. Umm right? Please comment.
To everyone saying it's a waste of time: It's a waste of time either way. Why the fuck do you want to know which one wins? Do you have a stake in the matter? Fuck no. You're spending your time on entertainment. You don't go to the movies and say "it needs to end this way or it's a waste of time". Just enjoy the damn video and chill tf out.
the first run on the 2003 must have already been getting hot, but not hot enough to shut down the SC. It could have been pulling timing already though as IATs rose quickly and that would absolutely produce a lower HP and TQ number
Alex I majorly enjoy your show, Here in nz ,I have owed a few older Benz s over the years 92 300c 1980w123 currently ML 430 m113 my girlfriend has 2005 c180 wagon and I want to know if we can crank the supercharger up ie smaller belt you may have mentioned ? If have been loo,ING at a 2005 e55 only 127 in nz with some issues too many questions on that begreatto chat one day
I have a quick question. I am looking to buy a used Mercedes E class. Between 2001 E320 and 2010. Which is the best, most reliable E class to get. Budget is between $2500 and $7500
I made an update to this video after fixing it. Check it out!

LegitStreetCars it's good you updated the video, but I don't really appreciate having to watch a 10-minute video to find out you didn't Dyno the car without problems.

Rewatching these videos when Alex was starting up makes me so happy of how far he has come and all the knowledge he has given me. Thanks Alex!
Dude, so I watch a 9min video to find out nothing... you should post this up only once you have the result 69k v 400k, otherwise it's a waste of time.

i have become obsessed with older, high mileage AMG's. I think the m113 engine was a highly underrated yet durable beast that still has lots of untapped potential. I really look forward to the next video.
Brian Carroll Thanks so much for watching. Ya the 113 is one of my favorites. Most Mercedes techs agree it's a great engine
Brian Carroll Yes; it is mechanically simpler and rather "overbuilt."
The older inline 6 m104 is far superior. That and the 2jz have very similar bottom ends and both will take 600hp plus reliably stock

OMG! 5+ years of LSC! Love how your channel has grown.

I just dynoed my Honda civic, mugen cams, spoon exhausts, kpro ecu, garret gt35 turbo charger.. It made 1hp, and minus-6ft/lbs of torque, I'm actually quite proud I have the most powerful Honda ever made.
Lets get this amg to 600k miles my cls55 just hit 83k and my maintenance been on point ready for 600whp
Interested to see the results. I've always wondering how much power (if any) they lose over their lives.
What the hell do you mean by "couple hundred horsepower?" 200? 250? Say the numbers, saying "couple hundred of horsepower" doesn't make sense.
MrRangerZr1 video made perfect sense to me. I Guess dumbasses would be confused about what a couple hundred is.
Couple was 2 when i went to school.
Kids these days.
U sound sooo stupid
CME ya, few is three or more for those that didn't finish school or didn't pay attention
A couple hundred means a couple hundred, so don’t question it 😂
402k miles that’s impressive!
I would love to have just half the $$ spent on that one to get it to 400k. I could retire..and buy my own island..

You have to have the same color. The black ones add like 32 horsepower at least, haha.
Thanks for watching. There is an update to this video too

On the 2006 E55 the blower is with different gear ratio the clutches engage more quickly and doesnt spin as much as the 2003 to create boost pressure

What did you expect? It has 402k miles obviously it's not gonna work as a brand new car, it has a waste of too many use, so the power will be less than the other E55 with less mileage
Maybe the headline should be "We compare a broken old mercedes vs a healthy one". Next time repair the pump or what ever and compare it again.
Will do, thanks bud.
came here from WP but I have a stupid question. seems like the 06' at 2:18 wanted to break loose from Dyno and spinning the tires !?!? and only putting out 380 whp ? and the car weighs how much ? something is not making sense correct me if I'm wrong but seems like more power than what your saying
The limiter was preventing full power. The E55 makes 415whp in good conditions and 450wtq+ on Mustang Dyno. The spinning is most likely from the tiny stock 265 rear tires that these cars have.
Jam Jar Mustang dynos always read low.
Also, I forgot to mention that he was letting the car kick down rather than keep the car in gear and build speed, making the wheels spin. The important thing is that I don't he had the car in dyno mode which means he got an incorrect reading.
Damn, my s55 AMG has 230k miles and it still runs smooth.....
y not just do a drag race?
Nigel Bailey because in a drag race are other aspects important too. Reaction time, the start... On Dyno you can see the exact power difference
awesome comparison
Check the records for a radiator replacement they are common to leak into the transmission fluid on the 2003.

Major Cocklikar LegitStreetCars
SC system shuts down (dis. clutch) at 200F IAT and at -39F IAT.
ChromeSmoke They were in dyno mode
ChromeSmoke its a mustang dyno. You must be used to dynojets inflated numbers where this car would have done 500whp.
man...i was about to fall asleep on the dyno runs.
Yes i would of suggested, making just the one video ending on the car being fixed etc....but nice vid
Cocktail Box New dyno video is coming. thanks for watching

absolutely correct sir you charger went into limp... your lucky it was only the cooler pump my main pulley separated on the dyno! 7k later car is sold.

Both vehicles do not run very badly

Both my cars have about 60% damage to the bumper
Recovery is difficult
If you have the body of the w 115 or 123 cars in you possession, I would be grateful if you could provide me with the body of those cars.
Also, if there is any possibility to help me in making these two cars, I would be grateful

So the 400,000 mile E55 had less power, Well Surprise Surprise Sgt Carter,
Yes that Charge air water pump will cause the eng to be limited on Power but
was the check engine light on? I work on these cars myself in an Arizona Benz Dealer, 400,000 miles
does a lot of wear on a transmission, super charger, not to mention the
engine, it self, Yes that electric pump of low coolant in that circuit will
limit power however a lot gets factored in to Rear Wheel Horse Power
and the 400,000 mile car did decent considering all the factors.

They are rated at 475 hp. At less than 400 hp I would consider that engine to be broken. I would be shocked to hear that the ratings were taken at the crank. No manufacturer has done that since about 1971. Umm right? Please comment.
To everyone saying it's a waste of time:
It's a waste of time either way. Why the fuck do you want to know which one wins? Do you have a stake in the matter? Fuck no.
You're spending your time on entertainment. You don't go to the movies and say "it needs to end this way or it's a waste of time".
Just enjoy the damn video and chill tf out.
Why you don't use more fans for cooling while dyno?...
the first run on the 2003 must have already been getting hot, but not hot enough to shut down the SC. It could have been pulling timing already though as IATs rose quickly and that would absolutely produce a lower HP and TQ number

I have a quick question. I am looking to buy a used Mercedes E class. Between 2001 E320 and 2010. Which is the best, most reliable E class to get. Budget is between $2500 and $7500
What shop do you recommend for a tune for my e46 m3. Im in illinois and new to the channel. Thank you in advance
Sure nice of Chris Evans to stop by and help out with the test
Do a bigger coolant pump and bigger heat exchanger.
Garbage. Dyno figures? I apologise to the internet for contributing to this man's TH-cam revenue.

Didnt the w211 get a facelift in 2006 with a new grille and new foglight design. Didnt seem like that 2006 E55 had gotten the facelift tho.
No it was the 2007 E63 that had the facelift
Oh thats right, model year 2007 launched in fall of 2006 :) Like my w211 Mercedes E220 CDI is a 2003 model year, but it is made late in 2002 :)
Uh Trans Am in background👌
Err confused 😕. A side by side comparison would have benefitted!
"I do videos like you just saw" well count me out then.
402k miles and the owner failed to replace the only weak part on the car, which only cost $100!
"Absolute Piles of Junk", says Scotty Kilmer
Nope, looks like it runs fine to me. I STILL WANT TO BUY ONE
I remember reading about this on oversteer...
Lol the old one is close to engine death 😂
402k at maybe 22mpg and 4.5ltr per gal(UK) on Premium Unleaded at £1.25 a ltr...about a £100k fuel bill...wow
