  • On a crisp September morning, my wife Dawn and I embarked on a memorable hiking adventure in the breathtaking Torridon region of Scotland. Our base was the charming village of Shieldaig, and this day promised to be special. After a drizzly start to the day, the sun finally emerged from behind the clouds, casting a warm, golden glow over the landscape. We were in the mood for a leisurely exploration, and the trail that beckoned us lay just across from the elegant Torridon Hotel.
Dressed in my kilt for a change, we set off on a path that would lead us to Loch an Eoin, a hidden gem in this rugged terrain. The tartan 'aboot ma legs' added a touch of Scottish tradition to our hike, making the experience feel even more exciting and memorable.
The journey began with a stroll through a pine forest, the scent of evergreen needles filling the air.
Emerging from the forest, we found ourselves on the side of a hill, greeted by panoramic views of Torridon's majestic peaks. Beinn Alligin and Liathach stood tall, their rugged profiles etched against the sky. In the distance, the regal silhouette of Beinn Eighe beckoned us forward, a distant promise of adventure.
As we continued our ascent, we encountered several small lochans, nestled like sapphire jewels amidst the heather-clad landscape. Each one had its unique charm, reflecting the surrounding hills and adding an extra layer of beauty to our hike. These pristine, mirror-like pools served as perfect spots for quiet contemplation and to capture the essence of Torridon's wild beauty.
Our path led us closer to Loch an Eoin, a serene expanse of water surrounded by rolling hills. The shimmering waters of the loch mirrored the sky above, creating a tranquil oasis in this rugged terrain. We found a quiet spot to rest, sitting on the grassy bank, and savored a picnic lunch while soaking in the serene atmosphere.
