Is a standard BMW X3 capable of driving on sand dunes?

The Atlantis Sand Dunes is a mecca for 4x4 enthusiasts and is just a mere 45 min drive from Cape Town City. In this video, I take on the grueling task of driving on the sand in just an average bone stock BMW X3. Will I make it or will I get stuck at the entrance?

Thanks so much for doing this review, how much fun is this car! We here at Windhoek Pupkewitz BMW has X3 demos converted for 4x4 driving with other tyres, belly plate, etc and we tested the car in Walvis Bay dunes, seitched traction control off and what a dream!! Lovit!

Hello! I saw the converted X3 you’ve advertised for sale. Did you test the cars on the gravel roads to or from the coast? If you did how well do the shocks respond on gravel?

Really glad you did this. I have an x3 which I really wanted to take on the sand, but was nervous about.
Really looking forward to the next opportunity I have to play on some dunes as well.
Have done some off roading in trails and the x drive is very very impressive

thanks for the review! good idea - I would appreciate more outside view on the car, how it behaves and how the 4x4 system works. And that audio... lots of noise and this music - next time perhaps a microphone and no loud music ? :)

Has there been much changes to the xDrive since 2015? I have a 2016 2.0 liter diesel which I think is what you have. This X3 is a couple of years newer.

I think it has evolved a bit over the years but the xDrive system in F25 shape like yours is quite capable off-road as well.

We tested the 30d 6 cylinder with offroad tyres and AWESOME experience. Super capable!
