What makes these videos so interesting is your commentary - it's really informative but also the little stories here and there make it entertaining. I love doing my painting while having your channel videos on in the background. Great inspiration Betty!
I love this video Betty, you are so generous with your process. Every time I start teaching a new abstract class I have my students follow you, and everyone loves your work and your videos. ❤️
I’m enchanted with your work. I’ve been painting for about 7 years. Abstract is my favorite and I’m truly a novice. What I love about doing abstract is the blending of colors. You are a master. I’m so glad that I found you and I’m hoping to discover an entire new style and technique. I’ll be tuning in weekly! Many thanks and please keep your videos coming!
Your videos are so well done and your commentary just great: pleasant, likable, friendly, and intelligent. One of the most refreshing art videos I’ve seen in some time. And while your pieces first struck me as way too busy and full of pointless marks, I gradually came round to being inspired. Your videos are definitely going to have an influence on my own work. Especially your use of color. Your work is “happy” and “cheerful feeling” without being cute or trite. Thank you for this video!
I absolutely love your videos where you paint! I watch them over and over because I’m fascinated to the point of obsession with your abstract style.😉 Please keep posting your painting videos, whether they be on canvas, wood, or paper!❤️❤️❤️
I am simply mesmerized by watching your process, Betty. Thank you so much for sharing and I am definitely checking out the Nova Colors for myself as well. hahaha And I DO love your technical terms! lol
I've had folks tell me my art reminds them of Klimt. The first time someone said that, I looked him up! I had heard of him, but couldn't remember what kind of paintings he created. Always honored to be mentioned in the same sentence as Klimt!
I love they way you start with the black and then putting color in the spaces. I don't see flowers or stepping stones....but that doesn't matter. I like the painting.
Hi Bette! I’ve started trying to replicate your style and order to loosen up what I’m doing and learn to do this type of abstract painting. Today when I was watching this video I realized that I need to do longer larger areas of one color rather than kind of rough and squares which I started doing. Thank you! Love it as always.
Glad I could help, Sarah! I'm sure as you keep on practicing, exploring, and experimenting, that your own style will evolve. Have fun with the process!
I’m going to give your style a go. I am constantly struggling with tightness in my work and I love the freedom that you have created in your work. Thank you for sharing your gift 🙏🏼🌹
I have been watching your videos since few days and I love them. Wonderful process and voice over. Love all your paintings. Thank you so much for sharing !
I commented one day, asking for help to find a certain video. You suggested one but it was not what I was looking for. Thanks for trying. Yay, this is the one! I just love this painting and wanted another look at it. This time I saved the video. I am really having good results with my Nova paints.
Dear Betty, thanks for sharing. I love watching you paint - very relaxing and inspiring, and your. explanations are very helpful . As for me, I wouldn't have the courage to cover all those beautiful areas that show up in your paintings during the process. But the final result is always convincing - hope I will keep it in my mind and learn to "waste" more color and enjoy the change instead of trying to stick to a result. Best wishes from Germany, Hedi
Thank you so much, Hedi! I'm so happy you're enjoying my videos. I completely understand that sometimes it's hard to cover up something that you love! But, often times, it helps us get through the painting and to bring it to completion. Keep on creating and thanks for following my adventures from Germany!
I love several of your pieces when they are at the half way mark, we've talked about this before and I completely understand your process to continue on. But this is my very favorite "half way finished" piece.(about the 30 minute make) LOL AND of course it's amazing when you call it "the end", with all the details and your finishing touches! That's what makes you, you. Both ways hit the mark for me! Great work Betty! Very inspiring as always!
Really great to have found your channel. I love your work. Also, can relate to you, and enjoy hearing how you feel about commissions, buying your paint, etc. Really like how your talk during the video, and that there's no annoying background music! Looking forward to more of your videos!
Welcome aboard! I appreciate you being here. Glad you enjoyed my voice over commentary and the fact that there's no music. Some of my early videos have music and, honestly, I find them annoying!
What a wonderful video!!! Thank you so much, Betty, for ALL your great videos. You and a Canadian artist are both such an inspiration for me (even though my style is different). I really benefit from all your helpful hints.
Thank you for adding your comments and thoughts while you paint. As a new artist using acrylics it helps with learning about the process, use of paints, layering and also the challenges. Love your paintings, colors and images that emerge.

Betty, what a gift you are. You are frugal and generous. You seem to have a keen understanding that you can be blessed and abundant (you get paid) when you share without charge to hungry viewers. Thanks so much. On Nova, because of you, I have gone to put together an order with them 3x. I have forgotten each time (until now) that you never know how much your bill will be because they charge for shipping no matter how large the order! And to know what that will be, you have to call when they are open, to find out. I know you live nearby so maybe not a big deal for you, but did you order from them when you still lived here in Washington?
You are super kind, Harmony! I have always been a person who likes to help others when ever possible, so I'm happy to pass along what I've learned about being an artist. 🥰 I used to order Nova paints when I lived in Washington. I don't remember the fees for shipping, but I do remember that in the end, it was always less expensive than other artist grade paints. You can put in the notes of the order that you'd like to be contacted when the shipping has been calculated. You must be enjoying their paints!

Blick has some good canvases! I think the negative monologuing is normal and we just need to find a way to lessen it. I still do it, but it's not screaming at me. It sound more like a talk over a cup of coffee. 😜 Keep on creating!
@@palwashafineart4839 You can only purchase from their own website; no other retailers carry this product. I'm not sure if they ship to Canada but if you go onto their site you can find out.
I bought a few 4oz Nova Colors at your recommendation and they are definitely cost-effective. Golden is quite expensive. But we have to choose our paints by our own preferences. I prefer heavy body paints and I don't think Nova Color has any, so I have to go with another manufacturer. There should be no stress with creating! Kudos for doing a few, Betty! Also, I love where the painting was at 10:16. LOL
Thanks for sharing, Sharon! Nova only carries one type of paint that's more of a fluid than a heavy body. I totally agree...you gotta go with what makes you happy!
Betty , I love to try your processes, for myself. You never seem to wait for the paint to dry. When I try to paint your colours I end up with unclear dirty not so vibrant colour what shall I do. Btw I think your art is amazing x
Hi Betty. I’ve just started painting thanks to encouragement from my daughter Holly who shared your videos with me. I’ve always been a realist when it comes to art, not getting abstract. But your art blows me away. Thank you for sharing your process snd teaching your techniques. I’ve been mainly working in a notebook. I have one question. It looks like you are rinsing your brush, wiping it on a cloth then using it before it’s completely dry and clean. Can you give me tips on changing colors with same brush?
Hi Mary! So cool that you're giving abstract painting a try! Tell Holly thank you for showing you my videos. When I first start painting, I like to dip my brush in water so that the paint floats on the brush and doesn't get sucked into the ferrule. And, when I'm using either warm or cool colors and I want a cleaner color (since I mix constantly with the same brush), I quickly rinse it in water and dry it off a little. I hope that helps! Have fun creating!
aha! Now cave walls become more attractive canvases for the expansiveness. I loved @2:56 and wanted it to be the beginning in a work. The end product is spectacular but I always miss all the diff stages in your work, as well as mine.
You and me both! I love all the stages of the painting process and seeing how different it looks in the beginning and middle stages compared to the very end. Thank you, Kim!
hi Betty, you're an inspiration and I love your videos! could you recommend an app for the mock ups, where you show your paintings in a virtual room or your clients room?
Thank you Betty. This painting is amazing and I enjoy watching you create. I was wondering if when you are painting, do you keep design composition (eg: crusiform etc) and a focal point in mind? Thanks for sharing with us.
Good question, Shirley! I don't think too much about composition when I'm in the earlier stages. Although, I'll starting putting down some elements that will add to the composition. Honestly, since I've been doing it for so long, I don't cognitively pay attention. I'm more looking at my design elements: size of shapes, types of shapes, colors, values, lines, etc. I hope that helps!
Hi Betty, After you complete your paintings, do you apply a varnish or something to protect the colours from fading? I love your art! Your videos and art tips are just wonderful!
HI just started watching your channel and love your painting style and colors. I just started painting abstract canvas and am struggling currently with a big canvas I am working on. Mine is looking way to busy and I can not blend and incorporate colors together. Came to your channel to watch another video and really watch your technique. i think that I am not filling my canvas with large enough blocks of color and I tend to make smaller strokes creating a feathering technique rather then just painting the canvas with larger block of colors and then layering my colors over and over again in a painting style and not making shapes over shapes and smudging and rubbing all my color out to reveal underlayers of paint. Can you tell me if I am correct in my thought of just painting larger sections of my canvas in color blocks rather then making a whole bunch of patterns on my canvas. Also curious what paint brushe's you recommend ? The one your using in this video looks very long. Final question is do you layer wet paints over each other to create colors and do you rub out colors or use a spatula with seerated edges to move paint and create texture ? Kindest regards and blessing's. Xx
Hiya! I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling right now. It's all part of the growing and learning process. It sounds like you figured out what you want to do differently. Do that and see how you feel about it. It's all about experimenting and exploring...and having fun! I'm using acrylic paint brushes I bought either online (www.bettyfranksart.com/my-favorite-art-supplies) or at a local store. I have so many different ones that I don't know which ones I used during this painting session from a few years ago. Like painting, I found that I had to try different brushes to see what I liked best. I prefer the long handles for large canvases. I like the round, flat, and filbert. Also love my rigger! I don't paint wet on wet. I prefer a dry brush technique. I rarely add water. Usually I add it to make drips. Keep on creating!
@@BettyFranksArt Thanks so much for getting back to me and answering all my questions. I will check out the link to the art supplies. I definitely will keep on practicing and painting. I really enjoy it and find it relaxing.

@@palwashafineart4839 You can only purchase from their own website; no other retailers carry this product. I'm not sure if they ship to Canada but if you go onto their site you can find out.
@@LMillerStudio thank you! I will check their website. Thanks again!

Hi Maggie! I tend to use a dry brush technique--very little paint on my brush. My layers dry relatively quickly, especially during the summer months.
Have fun creating!
good painting
let my friends here watch and join my simple abstract work.
Thank you so much!
@@BettyFranksArt are you welcome
Buying that size this week. See how it goes lol ❤️
Exciting! Go for it!
great piece. And where did you get the "street wear" duster?
Thanks, Vicki! Not sure where I got that one. I've had it for a few years. I love dusters and have many of them!
Aloha Betty -
Fab piece! Perhaps I missed the link on varnishing your work. Please advise. Mahalo

hi Betty, you're an inspiration and I love your videos! could you recommend an app for the mock ups, where you show your paintings in a virtual room or your clients room?
Hi Laura! I use either WallPicture or ArtRooms. They're great for showing your art in a room setting.
@@BettyFranksArt thank you for your reply!
Hi Betty,
After you complete your paintings, do you apply a varnish or something to protect the colours from fading? I love your art! Your videos and art tips are just wonderful!
Hi Claire! Here's a video on how I varnish my art on paper. I use the same process for canvas/wood panel: th-cam.com/video/KBg4GjajaPg/w-d-xo.html
