Ive been taking DIM for 2 months and I did notice my skin getting oily and more thicker hairs but my acne cleared up. Interesting that you had this experience, good to know!
Interesting! And everyone is different so it may be that it is working for you. Interesting that you have more oil and hair (signs of high testosterone) but the skin is clearer (opposing sign). Perhaps it was in fact your Estrogen, which is very possible too and hard to say without a test

This is a wonderful video on your experience with acne and your hormonal challenges. I have had many patients with both inflammatory acne and hormonal acne. Many factors such as SHBG, the three estrogens (E1,E2,E3), testosterone, DHT, DHEA-s, progesterone and many other factors. It really is a case by case basis as no two patients are the same.

The problem with any hormone tests (blood or saliva) is that our hormones change almost daily depending on your cycle, exercise habits, stress levels, diet etc. To get an accurate hormone panel, you'd have to take your saliva (or blood) every day for weeks and weeks. A one-day saliva test is completely inaccurate.

I just seen a natropath and got a hormone test and he gave me a tincture that was pure made and I asked if they make it specific to people and he said no that the herbs in it are meant to balance everything out. It has vitex and some other stuff I never heard of
After coming off the pill you will have a lot of excess estrogen. Estrogen breaks down to androgens before you can get rid of it, hence the acne. It's the same thing that happens when you ovulate and rught before you get your period, when you get that dip in estrogen and progesterone. Also after pregnancy you have excess estrogen that breaks down. It's bot the estrogen that directly causes androgenic symptoms but after having too much of it and it lowers.

So crazy that I’m running into this info 12 years after I took pills like this. They made me break out like never before. The effects lasted for a year and I went through the worst depression of my life. Still trying to fix the scars from that time 😢
@@dr.anniesavagend-balancing9222It did clear up. I’m a guy and apparently high testosterone causes acne for us. DIM lowers estrogen which likely raised my testosterone even more. It could be different for women.
I think its also possible to have hormonal acne as a result of high estrogen, I had blood work done and my estrogen was high while my testosterone and progesterone levels were normal. I also have cystic acne, but my mistake was thinking hormonal acne was only a result from high testosterone
I started mixing in a collagen, biotin and hyloronic acid powder into my smoothies. It was for hair, skin, nails and joints. The biotin in it made me break out. Within 3 weeks i had the worst cystic acne i have ever had.
Me too! My acne was so bad. I had like boils and cyst filled w fluid. I wanted to hide my face in a bag. I hated myself. I didn't wanna look at anyone. It was just the worst!!
I'm a guy and I took DIM and it caused severe acne. The only thing that helped balance my hormones after taking DIM was acupuncture which made most of my acne stay away.
do you know what kind of accupuncture you get and how often? very interested in this myself as ive heard it can help balance hormones, id love to hear more about this!
@@elise4093 Hi Elise, I got "Whole body hormonal acupuncture" from a local Acupuncture practitioner. It took about 6-10 sessions (45 minutes each) twice a week to balance my hormones. Try to get at least 2 sessions per week and no less because if the treatments are closer together, then you will see better results. It's been 6 months and I haven't broken out.
@@elise4093 I still get a "Maintenance" Session once a month just to make sure my hormones are balanced. Other than that, I eat a clean diet. No dairy, No Gluten (only on weekends), No nuts of any kind, No eggs (only on weekends). Lots of vegetables, fruits and lean meat. For my skincare routine, I lightly exfoliate with a face scrub once a day, Witch Hazel toner and Oil Free moisturizer.

If you have high oestrogen and low progesterone vitex and DIM are fantastic. Atp science venus e-tox is an amazing blend of these two and works for alot of people
Yes definitely, as I said in the research. The problem is that it is best to confirm that is where your hormones are at with a test before taking the supplements, rather than to just assume after coming off the pill, as people may be giving their body the opposite of what it needs. I've heard ATP is a great brand so I may have to check out their products when I get my test results back (depending on what I need). Thanks for the recommendation :)
So, I have a good and odd experience with DIM. Can you weigh in on what might be happening? I have been taking DIM for about a month and seen excellent results for my acne, libido and pms symptoms, but think I’m also observing the slow accumulation of abdominal fat. I normally have a bmi of about 17 and don’t hold weight on my stomach, that’s just been my body type, but recently I am closer to 18-19% and more weight around the middle. Could DIM be contributing to this? I know this video is several months old but I hope you (or someone in these comments) can advise, thanks!
Replying to my own comment with an update of anyone is interested 😅 So I discontinued DIM after about a total of 6-ish weeks, and the abdominal fat issue resolved itself. I’m probably left with a little more than I had before but I think that’s also contributed to by my lack of organised exercise in the past month. I think it’s good (for me) to be on for short periods when I’m experiencing estrogen dominance symptoms, but not long term. I hope this helps someone!
She went wrong when she continued taking the pills after her skin cleared. Those pills LOWER estrogen, she took them til the estrogen was nearly gone which is why the estrogen broke her face out again. All she had to do was stop the pills for a while until guessing when her estrogen rode again (after period )
Hi, replying to your comment, the weight gain is real, honestly its either great skin and weight gain or bad skin and stay skinny. Dim helps me to prevent hormonal acne and unfortunately I gain fat around stomach area.
After watching the video entirely, after all you went through with acne & “black period blood” would you say you should have done the $200 hormone level test in the beginning instead of trials and errors with your body?
Thank you so much for this video! I have spent years doing research on supplements and self-prescribing and I really needed that extra encouragement to actually go see a doctor about it. Now, to find a local herbalist...
Im on vitex daily bcs im low in progesterone, having a uterine fibroid (which is a sign of estrogen dominance) . I also use it for pms because my pms is severe, my breasts are so painful and my emotions are extremely nasty (crying, depression, anxiety). It does help immensly for my pms but im getting annoying acne, even though I dont feel my skin oily. Im thinking of trying colloidal silver 🤔 heard it s amazing.
So i started taking DIM and for ONCE in my life my acne was FINALLYYYYY going away. I was over the moon i was so happy... the headaches were always there but not like severe but by day 13 , 14 and 15 my headaches were pretty bad and i was nauceous. If its just a detox period I can suffer and live in bed until its over but I just stopped taking them and now my acne is going to come back and im beyond mortified. Mortified to say the least really... I give up...
Jade! If you take DIM you pull estrogen out of your cells and then into the bloodstream, that is step 1. You need to make sure you are properly removing the hormones out of your body next, step 2. Look into liver detoxification step 1 and 2. You will feel like shit (headaches for example) if your liver phase 2 is not adequate, because the hormones (and toxins) will just be circulating in your body, and not removed properly. There are supplements that will help with this second step (I take calcium-d-glucarate, because my estrogen levels in blood were extremely high, and this greatly reduced these levels). It would be best to consult a doctor to KNOW what you are dealing with, but reading your experience it is possible that your acne is indeed related to excess estrogen, considering your acne got better, but you needed to add an extra step, considering the headaches. Good luck!
@@universe25.x Hormonal imbalance is much more complicated than that, and there are many possible imbalances and reasons. We all have many hormones at work and why or how there is imbalance is very personal! I think hormonal acne can be because of higher testosterone or dihydrotestosterone, for example right before your period - when estrogen and progesterone drop and your testosterone will be relatively higher. This will cause excess sebum and that can cause pms acne. But you can also have low progesterone and then relatively high estrogen, which can also cause acne. You can also have high progesterone ánd even higher estrogen (like me) which still means estrogen dominance but not low progesterone: which in my case has to do with slower liver detoxification (build up of estrogen) and just producing two eggs every month (high progesterone). So I would suggest, if you want to figure out what is causing your acne, to look at your cycle! I keep track in an app and see a clear pattern: bad acne when ovulating (high estrogen peak) and before period (higher testosterone). Best bet is to live a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy and avoid foods that YOU don’t respond well to. Avoid sugar if you can cause blood sugar spikes release insulin, insulin raises testosterone. You could give DIM a try, many respond well, but if it doesn’t work contact your dermatologist or doctor :). Ps. Calcium-d-glucarate is supposed to remove build up of hormones, because it opens a certain pathway that the liver uses to do so. I my case it helped me greatly to reduce all the estrogen floating around in my bloodstream, which my liver was struggling to remove. I am not saying that is or was the (only) cause of my acne, I don’t think so. My gynaecologist said hormonal acne can sometimes be because of too high estrogen, or just hormonal shifts. I know high testosterone is another possible factor. Unfortunately it is complicated and I suggest to anyone to try an allround approach! Skincare, healthy lifestyle, stress reduction, maybe some bloodwork to check hormones if you suspect an issue there.
@@M_K_M_K_M_K I think my issue is genetics. My mom had this problem. And now I do too. I took accutane and it helped me for the first six months. Then my skin started to become oily again. And every month before my periods I break out horribly. This is too frustrating. I am taking dim and I didn’t notice that it really helped me before. Because I stopped using it for one month and the next period I broke out like 2 times more than when I was taking dim. With dim I only had like two breaks out. But this month I can’t look at myself in the mirror. Now I realized I should have continued taking dim. I just run out of the supplements and was too lazy to buy a new one. My bad. Well now I’m taking it again. Two capsules this time. Hope this will help with the next month. It’s just so difficult to see a doctor in the us. That’s crazy.
It made my acne worse. It can cause excess oil to produce on your face and clog your pores. It works for some but I have PCOS. So that might be the reason it didn’t help me.
I had a hormonal test and it suggested DIM. I wish I researched it before I bought it because it caused my acne to get worse. Now I have to start over again. 😞 Been dealing with this most of my life. Plus I have PCOS. I think I’m just going to fast for a while. Has anyone tried light therapy? Please let me know if it works for you.
Your first issue is that you stopped the pill. I stopped birth control for a month and I got acne right away. I know I have high estrogen and I just bought DIM, hopefully it will work for me
Hello Madison I know it is an old video. Great though! I habe a question. How on earth did you think to take both at the same time 😂? In Lara Bridens book she doesn‘t recommend them both together an especially no vitex if you have PCOS or highg LH to FSH ratio, because it can make those conditions worse, as you experienced. Love your content! Keep safe!
I’ve always been confused about this. Does anyone know why this would be. While I’m on my period my face clears up and looks perfect. I’ve always heard the opposite was “normal”. I’d appreciate insight as every derm I have been to wants to either put me on oral retin-a (which just dries me out and I’m already dry) or recently my new one just keeps prescribing antibiotics which just messes up my guts and I feel is only treating symptoms and not the cause.
@@peggyb86 I’ve asked every dr an obgyn I’ve ever had and none of them had any response for me. I wish I knew how to reverse it so I could have clearer skin for more of the month.
I think ur acne was caused by the DIM. i also took DIM for about a month and my acne got worse. I have pcos- high DHEAS and high testosterone, and low/average estrogen, normal weight. I think the DIM reduces estrogen so women who have estrogen dominance PCOS could benefit from it but if u have normal estrogen levels DIM could make ur acne worse. I started getting back pimples while i was on it which i didn't get prior to taking it.

Hello Madison thank you a lot for this video, but there’s something that is still not clear for me, for what kind of hormonal profil is Vitex and DIM adapted (high œstrogènes and low progesterone or the contrary) ? Also if my hormonal blood test comes back positive but I still have acne, do you think I still can use these kind of supplements ? Thank you for your answers
Hi Madison. Could you please tell what’s the name of the hormonal test have you done? Is it a DUTCH hormonal testing? I have done all the general blood tests to see the situation in the body over all, but I need to do a hormonal test now, but it’s so many of them. Thank you x
I just started taking DIM and I’m having the same experience. Breaking out with cystic acne after a week I’m not sure if I should take myself off it or not. Never been on bc and probably don’t have high estrogen.
I did a urine hormone test and was really surprised by my results. These results then made me seek help. I have really high estrogen and hardly any progesterone , to the point I don't currently ovulate. I've been taking a few supplements and my skin has massively improved! If I have any chocolate, cheese or miss a day taking my supplements my skin freaks the hell out haha
Oh I love that you went down this path! I got laser acupuncture once a week for six weeks after coming off the pill and that (with femmebalance) helped my skin so much in that time I believe. Sounds like you are like most women with the high estrogen and low progesterone post-pill! I really need to be careful not to skip a day with supplements too - I am terrible at this because I just don't enjoy swallowing them haha x
Thank you for this! I appreciate the scientific research behind this video. I can SO relate to your story I have literally done exactly what you did. Unfortunately health care in America is awful and I've had dermatologists, and primary doctors tell me that hormone tests are not necessary even though I have severe acne as well as other terrible hormonal I balance symptoms :/
I’m thinking the same damn thing is happening to me. 😭 I got off Lo-loestrin over the summer and immediately started Dim and Vitex and have been breaking out a ton and my periods have been 21 days and awful. Stopping supplements now and hoping for the best
Thank you for the viedo, you are beautiful! : Just because you go to a "Professional" and they prescribe you supplements based on your tests does not mean that the results will be positive. Plus many of the "Professionals" that I saw were incompotent and just wanted to prescribe be anything and everything in sight!! Plus many N.D.S and DRs had conflicting views on treatments and hormones in general. Hormones can be very unpredictable and complicating. I have both low estrogen and low progesterone, low testosterone and hight DHT. I was prescribed progesterone cream and it made everything worse. It made me break out, it made my anxiety worse, it made my periods insanely heavy. At the end of the day you don't always know how you are going to respond to supplements, I tried Vitex and it gave me EXTREME INSOMNIA, I tried "Innositol" to lower my "high normal" insulin levels and it gave me Extreme dizziness. So far the only thing that ended up clearing my skin was getting off EVERYTHING and letting my skin and body adjust naturally. I also cut back on caffeine and worked on stress management. So it's easy to get carried away on certain "miracle produts" that worked for certain people. But at the end of the day its what works for you and I have to try not to be so obsessed with perfection. I need to give my body time to adjust. Since I know all my blood work, I know I need to limit my sugar intake due to PCOS and "insulin resistance". I know to limit caffeine as it does not help my stress management (high cortisol and low progesterone levels). I also had to stop extreme exercising as that possibly messed up my thyroid or it could have been the really "low carb" diet I was told to be on. I appreciate this video. Thank you
Same story. I went to a naturopath doctor for acne and she gave m DIM and vitex... omg those pills made me see hell. I got horrible acne and left me with indented scars. I hid at home for close to two years until I went on Accutane. I have PCOS and also have high DHEAS levels.
My naturopath is amazing. Said she doesn't use those and mixed me a personalised mix of herbs for what my particular body needs, as everyone is different, and my skin is improving dramatically! Natural hormone balancing is possible but you just have to find a naturopath who has experience.
apparently with PCOS, vitex can worsen it if you have high LH levels. Have you tried inositol or magnesium? Inositol cleared up my neck and jawline, and i had high dheas and testosterone
Hi @@Sophschannel_ Thanks for your reply. Accutane got rid of all my acne so I can't really tell but I've been taking inositol for over two months and my last cycle was of 26 days. I had a blood test right before starting the supplement so I'll see in around 3 months if anything change. I've been taking magnesium and vit d and my DHEAS went down to always within the normal range. How many mg of inositol do you take per day? Also, have you done blood tests before and after taking the supplement and seen a difference in androgen levels?
Alejandra Rodriguez hey, so has the inositol regulated or made your cycle better? That’s good that your DHEAs have come down!! Ive been taking 4g since December, it’s called Sensitol by designs for health and contains the recommended 40:1 ratio. I’ve now dropped to half that dosage so now taking 2g. I had a blood test before (high dheas and testosterone, low progesterone), but I haven’t had one since but plan on doing so within the next month or so! Also it’s really important to get to the root cause, and the gut is often one of them. Probiotics are so so important, it’s been found to be a root cause behind insulin resistance. And as you’ve been on accutane it’s even more important to take them for a few months. Look into megaspore biotic by microbiome labs, it’s amazing!
@@alejandrarodriguez5850 accutane is litteraly dangerous, please everyone stop taking it if you are, acne is a sign of just overall bad health, specially gut and liver health, and with that comes bad kidneys, detox detox detox, healthy diet, detox estrogens, your kidneys and liver, accutane is a high dose of vitamin a, wish csn cause permanent Side effects, serious Side effects

I suppose everyone's body is different and responds differently. I have been taking DIM going on 2 months now and I have never had a break-out of any sort. Actually, if any thing it's balanced out my hormones to where they're not out a wack. I love the product and just wish I knew about it years ago I wouldn't have suffered so much. so sorry this happened to you...perhaps it's just not interacting well with your actual body chemistry. sort of like a hit or miss... Every woman knows her body and for me the first difference that I noticed after weeks was the hormonal bloating that I use to get every month was gone! And that was something I hated because it made me look pregnant. lol 😆 the moodiness along with ovulation was gone. skin never changed in terns of developing acne. and actually I had abit more energy. so for me, DIM gets a A+ for me and I will not stop using it as I seen a drastic improvement in my body. I have also heard that taking a certain brand of birth control along with vitex or diindolylmethane could have an adverse affect causing the hormones to go haywire.

This is my 3rd day taking DIM. I think it’s causing migraines. Awful, throbbing migraines that caused me to wake up and are preventing me from sleeping! And weird color urine. I read online this will stop in a few days and to take calcium-g with it. I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts and fibroids after birth of twins. But after they turned 2, I didn’t have any issues except for acne!!! And it gets worst around my cycle. I just assumed I had high estrogen bc of being told that I had pcos by gyno years ago and the cysts/fibroids. But after watching your video, I think maybe I need to test my hormones b4 trying supplements 😅

The problem with any hormone tests (blood or saliva) is that our hormones change almost daily depending on your cycle, exercise habits, stress levels, diet etc. To get an accurate hormone panel, you'd have to take your saliva (or blood) every day for weeks and weeks. AMAZING VIDEO! I watched about 12 times.
Love from the UK xx
I started mixing in a collagen, biotin and hyloronic acid powder into my smoothies. It was for hair, skin, nails and joints. The biotin in it made me break out. Within 3 weeks i had the worst cystic acne i have ever had.
Higher dozes B5 balances biotin out
@@quest3290 Thanks! Do you still get regular acupuncture? And did you notice improvements in other ways? Thanks so much :)
@@elise4093 I still get a "Maintenance" Session once a month just to make sure my hormones are balanced. Other than that, I eat a clean diet. For my skincare routine, I lightly exfoliate with a face scrub once a day, Witch Hazel toner and Oil Free moisturizer.
@@quest3290 Thanks so much, i actually have a consult session booked this week :) can i ask why the no nuts? My diet is pretty restrictive but i never realized nuts were a trigger.

@@Nninjarider they can lower testosterone or get rid of excess testosterone or estrogen
Hi, replying to your comment, the weight gain is real, honestly its either great skin and weight gain or bad skin and stay skinny. Dim helps me to prevent hormonal acne and unfortunately I gain fat around stomach area.
I been noticing that too!
After watching the video entirely, after all you went through with acne & “black period blood” would you say you should have done the $200 hormone level test in the beginning instead of trials and errors with your body?
Hi , it would so helpful if you tell us what all tests you did to check you hormonal Imbalances basically for all your acne issues.
Great information‼️ Had no clue about any of this...so many will benefit from your analysis and sharing your story...Thanks for this😊
Thank you so much Regina! A lot of people have no idea and it's such an important side of health! :) Thanks for watching!
Can I get a hormone test from my regular doctor or do I have to get it done by a certain specialist?
Your regular doctor more than likely will not run the specific hormone tests you need. I recommend you see a naturopathic physician.
My regular doc said they do the tests. You can also do the tests online
Dim changed my life! My skin has never been better!
how long have u been taking it? im just worried how long should i take it but it's helping me a lot with my hormonal acne.
Good luck!
@@M_K_M_K_M_K but I thought hormonal acne is because estrogen is too low and testosterone is too high. Why calcuim d then
@@universe25.x Hormonal imbalance is much more complicated than that, and there are many possible imbalances and reasons.

I thought that DIM is supposed to be an “intelligent” supplement meaning that it will balance your estrogen out whether it’s too low or too high
M W it does
It made my acne worse.

Hello Madison
I know it is an old video.
Keep safe!
Also Vitex in some cases increases Estrogen and LH but does not lower it.
Same! Mine is amazing on period but hectic during ovulation... Wonder why
Can u please tell me what happened to ur acne when you stopped taking dim after one month

Heya, how long did it take for your skin to clear up after using vitex?
What did you end up doing? I’m in the exact same boat
What did you do Alycia?
Alycia Gaspari I took myself off of it. Tca peels and Rose hip oil helped my acne
I'm also seeing a acupuncturist that's helping me. Totally reccomend
Kaitlyn Baldwin can you link the hormone test you used?
Kaitlyn Baldwin what supplements have you been taking?
what test did you use and what supplements?
Well when I stopped the pill my acne came back
Some is due to excess androgens and or testosterone DHT blocker helps block both
omg me im literally researching this and all i find is the opposite of whats going on whit me

Hi Madison... where can I do a hormone test if I don't need to see a doctor. Any other alternatives ?
Thank you for sharing your story it helps a lot .
hello good night a question did you use vitex and dim the same day or how did you take it
Thank you for the viedo, you are beautiful! :
Just because you go to a "Professional" and they prescribe you supplements based on your tests does not mean that the results will be positive. Thank you

How long after you stopped taking the DIM did you see the affects being reversed? Thanks so much for the info!
Does DIM work for men with oily skin?
Hi @@Sophschannel_
Thanks for your reply.
You need to read into where those acnes are popping up and what hormones they point at as the problem . Generally on the Cheeks (estrogen levels), jawline (progesterone levels) and shoulders and back acne (testosterone levels). You still need to work with your doc🙄

Dim helps my acne too! I love it . If I’m not taking dim, the week before my periods im going to break out everywhere.
Dim is not for women it could be if you're overweight dim is to balance your hormones and get it back stable and is in broccoli or cauliflower same for men if your not overweight or have large or medium man boobs, love handles and a lot of belly and back fat and other things you don't need pills, just excercise and eat healthy
DIM is for men and women
Those hormones...this can be so challenging and disheartening. Good on you to tenaciously pursue a solution. "Test, don't guess."
Hormones can be tricky! Haha I love that saying... Test, don't guess! Definitely!
Who are you doing your consultation with?
I’ve broken out with cysts from vitex and have had mid cycle stuff . I’ve never had this before.
yes I have also had ongoing breakouts since taking vitex. I have been taking for 3 months and also breaking out for 3 months.... However, I will say that vitex has helped reduce breast pain/cysts. But for me, the acne has not been worth it.
Me tooooo!! I never had cystic or any type of acne through my teens / 20s ever till 2 years I used Vitax and from 3rd days my chin was full of big inflamed cystic acne I stopped using it right away because I got rush too now will be almost 3 years since I stopped it but I still get painful cystic on my chin I am so mad at myself for using it 😭😭😭
