I own the GT, same color as in the video. @ 5'7" with a 30" inseam, the riding position is perfect with the forward controls in the middle adjustment position. Great for solo or 2-up riding. 6K miles in a year alone and I have three other bikes I split my time on. Love it.

I bought the 2020 Rocket 3R. For me it was a better fit. I'm 6 foot 208 lbs. I sit perfectly comfortable. I tried the GT and I didn't like it at all. The forward pegs were not comfortable to me. I didn't like going around turns with my feet so forward. The bars coming back felt uncomfortable. As far as the wind, I felt free and happy. Doesn't bother me. Mine is a stock R and does not have a windscreen. Just the piece above the headlights. It is enough to push the wind above my helmet. Probably for shorter people, you could put the GT bars on the R and have the short reach fixed and not have your forward foot pegs. Being a big guy, I love my R and can ride it all day for miles and smiles.

I just bought one and I’m loving it, the foot pegs are at a perfect spot for myself because I’m 6 1” but I agree when you see rougher stuff or a train crossing it the would be nice to stand up and save the lower back especially being 61 yrs. But overall this is by far the best retirement gift to myself. Cheers

Hi Bob , coming up on 8000 ks on the rocket3 GT here in NZ. I still love it. The novelty still not worn off. For NZ roads it has to be the perfect 🥰 cruiser. Mid pegs are a must as gravel roads are a bit common. I also found rain mode good for drifting the unsealed roads. Cheers, have a great Easter 🐣. Roger in NZ.

sure is nice to have mid pegs
so you can get up off the seat
slightly, to avoid compacting the spine.

I was hoping they were going to make a full blown touring version with hard bags and fairing for the North American market. I ride 2 up and have a 2017 Trophy SE and just frigging love it to death. I live in western Canada and the wind is always blowing and big honking semis on the highway, which makes a non fairing bike not too comfortable, especially when you ask the wife to jump on the back. But do love the look of this GT model never actually seen one on the road out here though, surrounded by Harley riders 🥱🥱🥱 but it’s always fun to blast by them 🤣🤣🤣

Aye, great bikes 💪 🚀 It’s funny Bob, after two extended rides of the GT I found it a bit too laid back, especially in corners and you can’t push through the forward pegs and that’s where the R has a real edge over the GT, tipping in and altering line mid corner. I bought the R and it’s much more chuckable but worth using with the shift assist and you can wind round till 7k, even the R is slight mid-forward. I have a mate and when on a cruise he brings the R18, but if we go to the hills then he brings the R9T... I am 5 10” but have a 32-33” inside seam and longer arms so maybe that’s the difference? Good points all round & about pegs.. My back is pretty straight and I find the mid pegs just support the back etc, and with sportier bars makes bike feel a bit more aggressive but still super comfy for longer runs :) silly big beastie!

I've been looking at buying a new bike and sat on the R3 this weekend, You're spot on for 5'8" a GT with the mid mounted footpegs would be perfect, however on a £20,000+ it was disappointing that they wanted to charge just under £500 to have it changed, come on Triumph that should be a no cost option.

Just for information, Triumph do a mid-peg kit for the GT so you can get the best of both worlds. I'm about to have mine changed for the very reasons MotoBob talks about - you can't easily lift your weight off the seat but also because there are times when a quick dab of foot is needed and there's a delay from the forward pegs to the road. You also have to reach forward to the gear change when you're riding off which can be a bit iffy with a heavy bike. I'll be asking Triumph if they can do the mid peg conversion but leave the forward pegs in place. Sorted (if possible)!

I rode the Rocket GT for a while and didn't enjoy the forward controls at all. Much too Harley-esque for me. Also, my back started hurting after a while. I switched to the R, and it was night and day. I felt I was in better control of the machine, and the ride was much more comfortable. It was the R that I went home with (after the taller windshield had been installed) and could not be happier! King of the road.

Completely agree with your assessment. Initially, I preferred the R Model; but - I have ordered a GT with mid position foot rests. I also prefer the style of wheels on the the GT compared to the R model. Basically, as I told the Triumph dealer, the foot rest position was the "deal breaker" for me as I didn't feel safe or comfortable with my feet forward. The advantage (for me) was I also get the fly screen, heated grips, swept back bars, and back rest with the GT.

They're beautiful! I own a black GT 2021 model. I'm 53 yo, 6ft2in and heavyset and this bike has been great. I've always ridden big sport bikes, my last being a Kawasaki ZX14 Ninja 2010 (ZZR 1400 in England I think), but I started struggling with the aggressive riding position due to osteo issues in my neck, back and hips. I had to stop regularly and couldn't do long rides. The Rocket GT's laid back position is perfect for body and mind, I'm riding far less aggressively without losing performance. Hopefully my forever bike, it's true love 😍

Theres only one reason to go with the R rather than the GT, that cherry red paint job. I'm not a cruiser rider but I believe that the reason people fit ape hanger bars is so that they can lift themselves out of the seat when there's a bump ahead. Negating the need for mid controls. Again not 100% so do t quote me on it. Lastly, I've only just discovered your channel but I'm enjoying the content. Just a nice bloke riding bikes and telling you what he thinks about them perfect.

Aye, Diavel a proper hyper naked.. Was torn with Diavel and R3r tbh then I passed one on the Rocket 🚀 ...Ducati looked way smaller and I knew then I’d made the right decision 8) and that Rocket mid range torque just cannot be matched even if Diavel quicker top end..

I found exactly the same Bob. At 5'6", the bars suited me fine, but as my legs were stretching for the forward pegs, it felt like the wind, combined with the savage acceleration, wanted to push my feet back off the controls. How tall are you btw?

I need to test ride both styles. I originally always wanted a Suzuki M109r Boss but didn't like it once I rode it because of forward swept foot controls. The R version seems like it would be more comfortable since I currently ride a FZ-07

Love both but Prefer the r. Road both. Adding a screen to the r is easy. Not a fan of the standard foot pegs on the gt and I dont need pillion back rests. Im also 6ft 3 so the bars works well. The r with the pillion infill shows more of the lovely paintwork. If I wanted a 2 up touring bike I'd probably opt for a k1600 or gold wing.

Your other half needs to make more guest appearances. She could do a pillion opinion. Even if it's just a stationary first impression. It would be nice to own, but it would take a lottery win and be one of 5 or 6 bikes. Unless I had a massive garage, I'd soon get bored of trying to move the flipping thing. My bandit 12 was too heavy and became so much of a faff to get out of the shed, I couldn't be bothered to ride it. And that's never good...

    • @motobob
      @motobob  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah it was a bit of a pain around the garage. Most bikes I can turn quite easily on the driveway without moving the car if I need a different angle for filming, but not the rocket!
