Loved the video @theShermanator! Can't wait for the next video man! I remember seeing the video of Ratten Reich on @Janovich's channel as well. Didn't think too much of it, but I like the Concept behind it. However, just from watching your video, I have a Feeling that the Devs whom Janovich is working with are probably going to have Ratten Reich become the Indie Games Community's answer to Fallout 76 by Bethesda Games. It's fine to Base certain in-game animal Factions off of Real World First or Second World War Powers, but not having any subtle reminders of you having animals and not Men, let alone anything else to distinguish between the Various Factions in the First Place, will lead to plenty of problems from the Start. As for the Cockroaches, from what I've seen here they might be based on the Russian Empire/Soviet Union, which makes sense because they're Cockroaches..... They come in by the Hundreds or Thousands even. So far, The game is in Early Access when it's probably more along the lines of Early Alpha. More Games when released into Early Access are a bit more Fleshed out and are even in the Early Beta stages. This is basically a Sampler that came out so far as very Poorly underdone.... If that even makes sense. TL, DR it's like a Sweet that ends up leaving a Sour Taste in your mouth afterwards. Let me know what you think about this and I'll catch you in your next video man!
Cockroaches being DLC-content while the game's still in early access.... Anyone else remember when DLC was for extra stuff the developers came up with after release, and not just a way to cut the game in half and sell it twice to each customer? This is the kind of smarmy shit you come to expect and begrudgingly accept from AAA titles which have their player bases whipped. I'm just not gonna support that sort of shit.
I think the biggest issue is that’s the factions are just animal head swaps. mice and rats are pretty similar but a monitor lizard is huge compared to the other animals. They can still be anthropomorphic but maybe the monitors are these huge soldiers that wear thick and heavy armor and have venom that make them great at fighting, but they don’t have quick hands so they have to hire smaller animals as mercenaries to man their tanks, artillery and machine guns. The games story is pretty bland, being WW2 but with less countries. they got to add something to it like leaning into the animals bit.
They should add dogs and cats.. Dogs allies, cats axis. They should add chickens in memory of Myrtle the Para Chicken who was a pet chicken to the British paratroopers than dropped in on Operation Market Garden, where she was shot and killed.
I've heard on their discord the reason why they we did not get half the stuff we were supposed to get was because they changed game engines halfway through.
what’s crazy is that this game is in early access and has underachieved by over promising, but is trying to make and sell DLC’s when they haven’t finished the main game. seems backwards to me
i welcome the idea of using animals instead of humans to wage a war, however using a very similar weapons that humans used in a war, kind of makes this entire idea of animals using guns pointless for me they needed to reinvent new weapons thats suits animal kingdom , not use a very similar tank model which was used in ww1 and ww2 ..
Yeah, this game isn't that good currently. Just feels like a worse Men of War or CTA Ostfront at the moment. I get it's in early access so it'll have more added onto it but currently if anyone is thinking of buying this just wait first before it's more fleshed out. Right now, there's only the tutorial mission, a WW1-styled mission, a truck escort mission (and you can't control the truck for some reason so good luck trying to get the achievement for it taking no damage with that), and a timed mission. Classes are Rifle, SMG, LMG gunner, Medic, and Commander who can call in an airstrike so you're pretty limited in that regard too as far as variety. Can't even pick up weapons (so no replacing the pistol the medic uses for something like a rifle or LMG) or even rotate emplaced weapons so often times it feels like the best way to play is just make a blob of troops and smash them into the enemy to overwhelm them with numbers.
Well, that's a disappointment. To me, the worldbuilding was the main selling point, but it looks like their commitment to the entire anthropomorphic animal thing was halfhearted. And without the flavor, this is just jankier "Men of War" with lore that reads like a barely veiled reichophilic fanfic.
It really feels like this was a project the devs just can't handle as they want to seemly make an extremely bearbones RTT with some unique and fun lore and thats it... Like why not just make a mod for any of the current heavlky moddable RTSes? Or if they really wanted to make a OG game and knew they needed to limit their scope why not pick littly anything but a weird mix between COH and MOW? Like they need a massive rework if they want this game to even be good... Which I would recommend... Like for the love of God go heavly stylized low poly as going high end realim really makes no sense for the game cureently... As it's clearly taking up way to much resorces as they bearly made any head way on gameplay, content, story and well if you saw a ingame screen shot pretty much everyone will think it's a new COH or MOW at best or just a map mod/ UE5 concept at worst... This is because the gameplay lacks the main and ereally only selling point... the Lore... Which how I would fix this is simple have the ultra realistic graphics be only for the cutscens. While also making the animal folk look well more like animal folk and have much more deverse units relating to the idea of those animals people have in the nations they mimic. Or even better make these fanbtasy WW1/WW2 nations ade out of their native animals this would do wonders to all the elements of the game and make it very unique and much easier to find the fun... And for ingame highly stylized Low poly where each faction had the style of their old IRL cconterpart war comics which the game map could convert to their style when they have control of it to show the fronts. Do this would free up resporces to dedicate to gameplay and content rather then resoce intense models that look like any other game... Also would give this game another major hook the unique and even innovative graphics that should also help intergrate and even develop the lore. Which I would also add actual base building macnics which RTT games always lack save for Dawn of WR 1 and COH 3 or a Total war army building system but with a battletech map system nothing fancy other then the UI... Which 100% should ingrain you in the world because the Lore is currently the games only selling point so going generic minimalist is a treble Idea as the UI need to renfonce the nartive in a game like this. So yeah the game right and as planned sucks as even if it was a mod it would make zero sense unless it was just the loadint screen or something... So yeah the only way I see this game successed at all is if it's completely reworked as the Lore the foundation, pillars and roof of the game because right now the lore the only selling point is a foot note in the actually game... Like even the loading screens don't showcase the lore at all... Like the main difference is the animal head... Nothing about them in this video showcased the lore at all... But the project can be saved the Devs just need to get their prioities straight.
Played the game during steam next fest, before it was removed by the devs due to how terrible it was. Had it on my Wishlist for awhile until then, at which point i blocked the game from appearing in my steam. Felt like a scam it was so bad lol.
So basically a good game, but not right now. My question is why don’t they just keep it in development until it’s actually somewhat playable for more then a couple of hours. Just the skirmish mode alone would have probably done wonders.
@@theShermanator ah understandable. I wonder if they will ever get the funding tho. Because the game looks promising maybe they could get more donations but thats optimistic at best.
recommend buying it? no Should you play just to see for yourself for only 2h and refund? yes (but i dont think you will play that much xD) Did devs improve that much from the last demo? No So should you really buy it in this state? No Are the devs doing bad decisions? Yes, at least for now The game feels like a rushed work and the ideas from some years before production it was meant to have lots of nations, to be inclusive to lots of nations because ww1 had lots of small nations but instead of that we have rats and others, we have the basic normal countries that fought ww1, we have no small nations, it feels like the idea that was selled some years ago died and changed to something easier to make, thats not what i saw the community asking for but whatever, fail your marketing and make a bad game and your game will not grow But well see, maybe theyll improve, who knows
The 1st-person view is so jumpy and the animations so robotic that I think it's in-engine with limited animation currently done. That said, the game looks good already and def gonna be something else.
@@sonicDhedgehog i searched it in incognito so it doesnt keep track of my own previous searches as I had been looking into the game and the lore, especially this week - was just to indicate that it was a "clean" search that wasn't tainted by my previous activity
The issues of this game outweigh any positives. Gameplay wise, from what I played in the Beta, it simply was lackluster. Good luck trying to organize a solid push against the enemy, they have more health, are more accurate, and your soldiers need to be micromanaged because they do not do anything that they aren't told. No attempts to hide behind cover or heal themselves are made. No reviving troops, no prioritizing or diversifying shot patterns to enemies. If you're expecting anything like Men at War, sorry. Onto the art and by extension the writing, if you were interested by the prospect of an alternate universe with deep lore that only just takes inspiration from reality, sorry again. This game feels like a 1:1 of World War 2, to the point where it doesn't even feel justified to have the cultures and people be animals at all. The German looking ones are just Germans, Iron Cross, Staulhelm, Accent, and everything. Not even like Iron Harvest where there were unique variations of that culture, it's just Germany but they have rat heads on their models, not even tails or a unique digitigrade look. They are just human models with an animal head. The entire game feels like it just doesn't commit to anything it tries. It wants to be an alternate reality WW2, but gives up haflway and just makes it WW2. It wants to be an anthropomorphic animal-style take on gritty warfare, but gives up after plopping rodent heads on them. It wants to be a Men-of-War style unit-based RTS but doesn't focus on the intricate systems that makes those games fun. And of course, side tangent, but they really just don't want to deviate from the standard 5 Main Factions. Britain, America, Germany, Russia, and Japan. They don't try anything new or even inspire anything from other cultures that did participate in WW2 that had their own unique style. No France, No Italy, No Hungary, No China, No anything other than what you've seen a million times. tl;dr Game's concept is very cool but execution is atrocious. I'd be embarrassed if I was the lead story or gameplay director behind this, after the amazing animations, artwork, design, and generous backing, and I delivered this? Yeah no, don't buy this game without a hefty sale.

Yeah the lack of content and rough quality is an issue, but definitely keen to see where this goes
Some one please make a comparison video old pre alpha with this early access!
You been shocked how massive downgrade was!
Absolutely refoud!
is it worth buying? not until its out of early access and mixed reviews its not
the vietnamese should be a type of eastern anthro dragon people

An incomplete "road-map-incoming" RTS that'll drip-feed content.
No thanks.
Personally I love the game so far and I cant wait to see how it grows and develops further .
I'm just not gonna support that sort of shit.
wtf, I thought it was just a funny world-building meme.
It's become a full game now???
lmao
I think the biggest issue is that’s the factions are just animal head swaps. mice and rats are pretty similar but a monitor lizard is huge compared to the other animals.
They can still be anthropomorphic but maybe the monitors are these huge soldiers that wear thick and heavy armor and have venom that make them great at fighting, but they don’t have quick hands so they have to hire smaller animals as mercenaries to man their tanks, artillery and machine guns.
The games story is pretty bland, being WW2 but with less countries. they got to add something to it like leaning into the animals bit.
Man I was following this game for like 3 years on TikTok 😂
unfortunate
They should add dogs and cats.. Dogs allies, cats axis.
They should add chickens in memory of Myrtle the Para Chicken who was a pet chicken to the British paratroopers than dropped in on Operation Market Garden, where she was shot and killed.
lmao I love the chicken idea
@@theShermanator Would be great lol
I've heard on their discord the reason why they we did not get half the stuff we were supposed to get was because they changed game engines halfway through.
yeah I heard that too
what’s crazy is that this game is in early access and has underachieved by over promising, but is trying to make and sell DLC’s when they haven’t finished the main game. seems backwards to me
0:09 is this what i always dreaming for??, Shogun 2 x Men Of War 2 😂😂😂
i welcome the idea of using animals instead of humans to wage a war, however using a very similar weapons that humans used in a war, kind of makes this entire idea of animals using guns pointless for me
they needed to reinvent new weapons thats suits animal kingdom , not use a very similar tank model which was used in ww1 and ww2 ..
I just think that rats are not my first choice. I’d do dogs and cats, or wolves, or anything else that isn’t a rat.
Why did I mistake the thumbnail for a insane Foxhole update?
haha
i think the lizards more closely resemble ww1 french troops than ww2 japanese
I hope that they improve the gripes mentioned
ngl it would definetly fit perfectly as a tabletop game like warhammer or trench crusades
I could see that
Honestly with the cool lore it has it would be better as a tv show lol
When you talked about it in the first few minutes, I expected rats scurrying around, kinda dissapointed that they walk like regular humans.
8:12 is it just me or are those not the exact same German voice lines as GoH?
I dont know, its possible its the same voice actor?
@@theShermanator true it could be. Might also be a free asset pack
The theme looks interesting, but the gamplay looks very lacking even for early access.
Can't wait for the Warhammer mod for this :)
That could be cool, but then you should check out Gates of Hell or Men of War Assault Squad, I think they both or at least 1 has a WH40K mod
Pop caps in RTS is a deal breaker for me
Especially when its rather small ones :(
Honestly whats the point of emphasizing the "rat" when everytbing is basically ww2 with rat faces, wheres the rat flavor in gameplay
Felt like a scam it was so bad lol.
so this is just the old buggier MoW with animal skins? i hope the game improves
So basically a good game, but not right now. My question is why don’t they just keep it in development until it’s actually somewhat playable for more then a couple of hours. Just the skirmish mode alone would have probably done wonders.
@@SirTriton it's been in development for years, they need money is my guess
@@theShermanator ah understandable. I wonder if they will ever get the funding tho. Because the game looks promising maybe they could get more donations but thats optimistic at best.
The first person view got me to get the game
there is no first person yet
I had it in wishlist, until I discovered Gates of Hell.
Putting the development of multiplayer behind a paywall shows that these scumbags are only in it for the money
The campaign thing kinda ruined it for me. If it had a longer and more lore and story driven story id be more interested.
Some of the icons look like icons from BF1, specially the smg? Understand it's a prototype gun? I don't know.
recommend buying it? no
Should you play just to see for yourself for only 2h and refund? yes (but i dont think you will play that much xD)
Did devs improve that much from the last demo? No
So should you really buy it in this state? No
Are the devs doing bad decisions? Yes, at least for now
The game feels like a rushed work and the ideas from some years before production it was meant to have lots of nations, to be inclusive to lots of nations because ww1 had lots of small nations but instead of that we have rats and others, we have the basic normal countries that fought ww1, we have no small nations, it feels like the idea that was selled some years ago died and changed to something easier to make, thats not what i saw the community asking for but whatever, fail your marketing and make a bad game and your game will not grow
But well see, maybe theyll improve, who knows
looks cool but space marine 2 looks cooler so yeah definitely going on the Wishlist
It looks like a Men of War mod honestly
>it's yet another micro intensive RTS
I'm tired boss
@@freshguacer the game seems more like an RTT than an RTS.
I was hoping for rabbits and foxes.
looks like a slightly more polish men of war with rat skin
more polished? hmm
Tbh stupid ai path finding in a rts game is pretty much normal as this point
Early Access should have been titled as a Demo
It's bad to pass levels you just have to get a massive squad and throw it against enemies
I don't understand anyone trying to port this style game to console, like how
I think this is a while away if it ever happens
no skirmish, no multiplayer, no mods. DAWG. THIS IS ASS!
I don't see the point of the soldiers being animals, what, are they fighting over cheese?
In the heat of battle can you even tell?
Where are the hamsters, gerbils, and guinea pigs?
haha good question
still got many bugs hope they will update and fix them soon
The 1st-person view is so jumpy and the animations so robotic that I think it's in-engine with limited animation currently done.
That said, the game looks good already and def gonna be something else.
Well any first person views are from trailers from years ago, there is none available rn
@@theShermanator Oh, fair enough, that sucks.
I was hoping somehting more like Company of Heroes, didn't really like the micromanaging of Men at War.
tbh always hated the pay4beta model so ill pick it up when it drops out of early access. Been burnt too many times
It’s just like men of war I thought it was going to be more like coh
Men of war but it’s rats that’s funny
@@deadknuckles6346 kinda like that I guess
I was excited to see the title of the video but got more disappointed as I kept watching the video. I hope the game gets better with time.
you searched up a video game in incognito mode? its a video game... nothing to hide from?
@@sonicDhedgehog i searched it in incognito so it doesnt keep track of my own previous searches as I had been looking into the game and the lore, especially this week - was just to indicate that it was a "clean" search that wasn't tainted by my previous activity
@@theShermanator ah i see thanks for the information, didnt think of that and thanks for your review i enjoyed your video and your opinion on the game
🤙
potato controls in the game vs men of war 2 that is almost 10 years old thats crazy
Ahhhhh, you lost me at the furries. I don’t play games with anthropomorphic animals.
Cheap version of the greatest war game ever, Men Of War. By the way, Men of War II is an awesome game, you can do things in many different aproaches, you can go stealth, you can go guns blazing (don´t works well most of the time) lots of strategic moves and war tension. I love Men of War, I had played all titles.
Sad to see it look so much worse than promised. Can just play Men of war or CTA if so.
I miss R.U.S.E.
Shame i just learned of the game so i very much hoped it would be good
Ratten reich yeah with the name, pretty much rats and rodents
Animals speaking casual human lines disappoints me a bit
That's what I touched on too
It's early access, not "out NOW"
@@FishAnvil its out to buy, says early access in the title right there at the end - devs barely release "complete" games anymore, everything is early access - out now - to me implies its buyable, I didnt write "is now released" etc
Early 1900s? The 1940s were mid 1900s, not early
