*All* of the scenarios are alternate histories, not just the Vietnam one. In reality, the Chinese didn't support North Korea at the start of the Korean War, they only joined after the South Koreans (and UN forces a week later) crossed the 38th parallel in a counter-invasion of North Korea. Same for the Cuban Missile Crisis, the US pulling their nukes out of Turkey (and Italy) was what solved it, rather than start it.

Not sure how impactful chemical weapons actually would be: it’s not like there’s a shortage of gas masks and other PPE with all the WW2 surplus running around so it’s surprising basic CBRN is an upgrade
Gasmask filters last like 6 months, WW2 era surplus would be somewhere north of completely useless and in fact probably just create a false sense of security as you die

Many chemical weapons can get into your system through skin contact. Having a mask might protect you from mustard gas. But stuff like Sarin gas you need full body protection. Thats a lot of extra logistics. Fighting in those suits is hot and sweaty. Not to mention lower moral because if you get shot you might survive the bullet, but than die from being exposed to some nasty chemical of biological agent.

The Soviets seemed to try to Nuke the logistic hub for UN forces, in Japan. If successful then I can see them try to negotiate a settlement, where the UN withdraws from China, rather than risk escalation. And if not it should cause a significant weakening of UN forces for some time, to let China start pushing on its own. Probably the quickest response the Soviets should muster, and without having to start withdrawing hundreds of thousands of troops and equipment from Europe. Which might not be a good idea if it's headed to a direct confrontation with the US. Korea was seen as a backwater, by both the US and Soviet at the time, a distraction from Europe.
