    What a great set of videos so far I'm impressed not only with your enthusiasm on the build but your video presentation/editing keep it up.
    I'm currently restoring a 34 Ford 5cwt van that was a basket case involving woodwork replacement and the making of whole panels, I've been contemplating my next project and the MGB is high on my list your videos have given me a good insight as to what to expect thank you for that, mind you I'm in my mid seventies so better get cracking. Keep on putting your videos out😊

    Making good progress there. It's amazing how many nooks and crannies the "rust bug" gets to over the years.
    They assemble cars differently now, better, to prevent that kind of rusting, but who's going to want to restore something from these times in years to come.

      @@gazzafloss well we will see maybe this generation will feel the same way about clios and the focus as we do about the MGB and Spitfire etc! But yes cars are definitely built better now!

      @@HJRgarage yes mate, even Japanese motor cycles have become collectables these days, who would've thought it back when I was making a fuss over old Triumphs, BSA, Matchless etc, a generational thing it is!
      And good on you for giving what can be a great, "out of the ordinary everyday driver" British sports car another chance.

      Thank you! Yes the belt grinder is fantastic for these kinds of jobs with hard to reach places! I can't remember having to reshaped the triangular reinforcing panel to that extent. I think you were unlucky and got a Friday afternoon piece. I didn't have such luck with my door skins though. I'm still trying to hang the doors so they fit reasonably well.

    • @HJRgarage
      @HJRgarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep! I think the panels are hit and miss! But I have since learnt that there are two different part numbers for those reinforcements! An early model one and a late model one and it looks like I probably had the wrong one 🤷🏽‍♂️ but we made it work!

    Great progress! Did the Tetrosyl seam sealer work OK over the zinc primer? I did a whole load of seam sealing using U-Pol Grey Stripe over Bilt Hamber zinc primer, and the seam sealer has cracks in it, has gone weird and brittle and has shrunk back in places. Now I'm going to have to strip it all off and do those areas all over again. I've got a tin of the Tetrosyl stuff in the shed but it's probably from 15 years ago, so I expect I'll need to replace it.

    This is going to be a long series. We've a good couple of hours+ so far under our belts - , and thats just the underside of one side of the car! :-D
    Although with scch extensive work, I'm still not sure that a stripped/back to bare bodyshell/bath, patch weld and paint, wouldn;'t have better set the car up for a good 10=15y, and given better access, for refitting, rather than whay might now be an ongoing "project". But I don;t make the decisons, I just watch and learn...

    • @HJRgarage
      @HJRgarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’re not wrong! That’s just a more expensive process and removing the engine and all the ancillaries etc. Would take even longer! I’m not saying that’s not the correct way to do it it’s just not how I wanted to do it! And yes it’s going to be a fair few episodes! I might have a break after this side and try and potentially do the whole passenger side in one episode as most people probably won’t want to watch the same things over again 🤷🏽‍♂️
