As an old Mazda rotary racer (FDs), I must applaud the amazing work you guys are doing to save the Cosmo. Anyone else would have crushed it. Major props to YCR !
Hello 👋 Ryan and Steve and everyone..this was pure joy watching you do your fabrication. I could watch it all day and night. My there is a extremely amount of work that goes into this and it takes a extremely smart guy to know how to do it..
Amazing work, Ryan 😮 metal origami ❤, so much rust!, 😮 but it's so worth restoring... Cosmo catastrophe!,, 😅😅😅 good to see Steve at work 👍 cheers boy's Tim the Taffy living in the sunshine coast Australia 🇦🇺
The more I see of these videos, the more excited I am for you start on my car, I cannot wait to see how it turns out. Keep the Brap (only a Rotary nut will understand) alive!!
Just got onto this channel, just blown away the amount of fab getting done. Amazing neat work. That lazer tho, they are getting to us quicker than I imagined. I need one. Masters at work right there.
Seems like only a few thousand miles separates us, but, we both spend our days & nights with cutoff wheels, scribes, markers & welders. Bringing back collector cars one inch at a time
I was watching Jay Leno the other day and there in the background was a cosmo . absolute pristine . there is probably a video on it as he has one for his many cars
Wow I found that the Japanese voice track is available! but... I don't know why, somehow it keeps saying like "Heh, heh, heh" during your hammer work. Sorry I couldn't stand laughing. Anyway, it is mostly helpful. Thank you and keep up the good work! Cheers👍
So I'll just say the same thing everyone else has said (only differently): any other car might have gone straight in the bin, but as long as you can still (mostly) read the vin, then a Cosmo is pretty well worth building from pictures n drawings! And you've got way more than that!! Cheers from Canada eh!
I have a rusty old boat that needs restoring. It's not quite as rusty as the Cosmo though. Do you think you could take it on? It's called "Titanic". 😂😂
While the lazer is super handy (and wish I had one) the fact is in this day and age the best thing one can do is have the entire body dipped and chemically stripped and then later ecoated after metal work is done... especially on something that's already swiss cheese. Cuz theres gonna be hidden rot that you don't see now that will eventually come through years later.
You were maybe right but they have already been saying something like that tipping is not taken into the consideration due to the fact that liquid would get between the panels causing issues after the fact. I don't know if it would be an issue or not.
I saw a very sad looking mazda cozmo sitting outside a house on my way home today, i wonder if they are following your "tutorial"- checking and refabing all the rusty spots.
Do you think you should have braced up the shell before you start cutting the crap out of it A dip might have been better that sand blasting at least all those inner panels would have been treated
Just to say I look forwards to your videos every time, and you never disappoint with the energy and skills you show time and time again, fantastic and so calming. KUDOS
Bad as this is, it's not anywhere close to the Datsun. At least you aren't finding 3 layers of bad patches, this all looks like original rust. It is so satisfying to see you cut out all that rot and replace it with shiny new metal, never get tired of it.
you have to have a LOT of patience and resilience with these ongoing rust repairs, every repair seems to be 4 or 5 separate repairs all in the one spot and you still haven't won the battle....
That's tough... so much rust. Excellent work it's great to see such beautiful rare car being restored. The laser cleaner is a cool tool to have! I guess it's quite similar to a laser welder just with different optics?
Gents, Such a great work done 👌 Great presentation 👍 Rust therapy 😁 One wish though - put those dinitrol products thet you use in description. And the tools you use. Will help us a lot. BTW - I restored Alfa Spider 1972 - 25 years ago. Treated with Dinitrol ML - not a single bubble came out. Great product all the way 👍
Congratulations to your confidence, bravery and skills! I‘d sink to my knees, suck my thumb and cry like a baby if I had to do this never ending frustrating heap of metal work… good luck, and thanks for your fascinating videos! 😮 👍
It shows here in the Netherlands too: Japanese cars are TOP quality bar rustprevention…. Understandably so as 95% of their products is sold in the far East where rust is not much of a problem. Still a shame that the Dutch importer of, for example, Toyota didn’t have their (at least High End-) products protected with a Dinitrol treatment. Of a dozen Dinitrol-Rustprevent Stations here in the Netherlands I believe only two are still in business, mainly protecting Classic Cars….
I guess this is what happens when a manufacturer makes no effort to do any rust proofing. Not just Mazda but most manufacturers from the mid 60's - early 70's. Great work though and you will have a really nice car when this is all done.
Wow, that car really should have been chemically dipped . My Volvo 1800 was almost that bad and I really should have chemically dipped it, but issue is nearest place to me is like 400 miles, and shipping companies wanted over $10,000 EACH WAY to transport the car. That’s clearly the “piss off, we only want corporate customers” price.
I bet at night when its quiet in the workshop if you listen very carefully you will hear that car slowly rusting away! You have a challenge ahead with that one.
Stage 5 rust cancer....! I would have given the Cosmo a decent burial, but seeing this "restoration" (a complete re-build)...Just wondering if you use the same gauge of sheet metal as the original car maker, it looks much thicker.
If it were me unearthing the rust on rust as I removed the panels I would be heading for a darkened room with head in hands and in need of a lie down and some therapy, unlike you who casually removes the panels with glee and excitement.... ooh great more rust😅
Something like this will be worth alot more than their total cost when its completed. Lots of older cars 90s and decades before go for silly money these days (not just the performance variations). Hell a mint Vauxhall Nova sells for more than new price and thats before adjusting for inflation... some old fords go for well over 100k... (never pay that for a ford imo but hey thats life😂) Bare in mind as well they are doing the work themselves which saves thousands in labour alone...
@AJB1 this is also true. People dont restore classic cars purely for financial gain. Some people just love the car. I maybe should have put that in my original reply. Whats that expression? Labour of love?
As an old Mazda rotary racer (FDs), I must applaud the amazing work you guys are doing to save the Cosmo. Anyone else would have crushed it. Major props to YCR !
My favorite project of yours, by far ! Love the Cosmo.
That laser anti rust device would have been useful on the Disaster Datsun a couple of years back , amazing work as ever Ryan
YCR's Mazda Cosmo: Handbuilt twice.. 😂.. Greetings from South Africa ❤❤
Avevo perso la speranza di rivederla
So much shape-making sorcery. It is crazy to witness your ability to bend flat metal into these 3d shapes.
The footage the job the songs. Such a therapeutic masterpiece. Great job guys
From a Civil Engineer to Restoration Supremo - hats off to you Ryan👏
Outstanding work - beyond my comprehension!
amazing work there young fella me lad, uncovering all that rust, game on, itss a proper tea bag

Wouldn't be a Mazda without a bit of rust! I once saw an RX7 FC with rusty windows. No joke
Brilliant work YCR

The Michelangelo of metal working !
Well done saving this beauty
Woo hoo, Cosmo content. Glad this build is back again. Anything on the disaster Datsun?
An unfathomable amount of patience and a bucket load of “turd polish”…!! I take my hat off to you Ryan.
So much work! But the cosmo is so worth it!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Seems like only a few thousand miles separates us, but, we both spend our days & nights with cutoff wheels, scribes, markers & welders. Bringing back collector cars one inch at a time
Nice work Ryan👍
Thank you, I've missed the Cosmo. Great job, as usual. 👍
there you go again guys Ryan with the blunt drill bits
You are spoiling us with all this catastrophic Cosmo content. Great stuff and really enjoying it.
Rust under rust under rust. Nothing seems too hard for you. 🎉 That car is in the right place.
Incredible work right there ...enjoy watching this series....thanks for taking the time to share

Great to see the catastrophic Cosmo again! This project is wild in scope.
Great job.
I have a rusty old boat that needs restoring. It's not quite as rusty as the Cosmo though. Do you think you could take it on? It's called "Titanic". 😂😂
When I was in junior high school, I saw the same car. It was also used in the TV drama "Return of Ultraman".

Maybe there is too much rust that would cause the contours of parts to be destroyed?
You were maybe right but they have already been saying something like that tipping is not taken into the consideration due to the fact that liquid would get between the panels causing issues after the fact. I don't know if it would be an issue or not.

Where are you from? If its anywhere near the UK then please pm us on insta or Facebook if that's ok?
@yorkshirecarrestoration essentially a random place in Canada.
So many rust 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️. But I believe that everything will work out.. 👍👍👍
That is some serious work- brilliant
This is really a car that deserves the enormous amount of work required to bring it back from the dead...
Great Fab work as usual Ryan and good to see Dad back on the job. Now, where’s the Escorts?!!
On the quest to find metal, holy what a mission
harder than the HOLLY GRAILEL on that thing
Do you think you should have braced up the shell before you start cutting the crap out of it

Amazing work as always! I think there might be more rust than car! With the sills, are there any drain holes to allow water to get out?
Just to say I look forwards to your videos every time, and you never disappoint with the energy and skills you show time and time again, fantastic and so calming. KUDOS
I fully expect the next project video to be: "Watch YCR build another Mazda Cosmo from this stack of sheet metal"
Cosmo FM. Nothing but Rust!

Hi, great video 😄 Why do we sometimes see Dinitrol 443 and sometimes 444?
even tho this car has more rust than the porsche, it appears like it is not as much of a fight.
Shouldn't the title read "Cosmic amounts of rust......." ;) I'll get me coat 🤣🤣🤣

an old datsun = 50% rust and 25% filler, there is not much left 😳
The Mazda should be called patches
Definitely got your work cut out for you,but coming back from the dead.just keep on doing your thing.be safe 👍👍👍😎😎😎
You’ve got to cut and replace one piece at a time or else you’d have a puddle of Mazda on the floor 😂😂😂😂😮
If it were me unearthing the rust on rust as I removed the panels I would be heading for a darkened room with head in hands and in need of a lie down and some therapy, unlike you who casually removes the panels with glee and excitement.... ooh great more rust😅
熔接がまぶしいぞ
It’s a Mazda. The only way they could be more rusty is if they had literally manufactured them out of actual rust in the factory.
It might be the worst car I've seen on your channel - but its also the one which is worth it!
This one is just rusty. The Datsun is also full of bad repairs. And yes this one is rare
Why don't you get it chemically dipped to remove all the rust and body filler? It'll save a lot of time.
Strange you’re working on the floor and not very high.
Do you ever think to yourselfs, this car isn’t worth doing all this work to????
