Great to see you introducing a younger guy to cars. I was 14 years old when my brother included me in a top end overhaul (decoke and valve replacement) of an old Austin A40 Farina. That was 60 years ago and I was covered in black oil and hooked. I hope he keeps at it and learns from you for starters. This is what young guys need.
So far I have restored at least six cars and techniques have changed over the years with welders and spray equipment. BUT.......
After all that, I am still learning great new things from YOU and others on youtube and playing with welding and paint spraying.
I owned a 1968 MGB in the 1970's and the steering is very heavy when parked which is why they have such a big wheel as standard (I noticed the small Mota Lita steering wheel which I have on a Lotus - much lighter car, half the weight of an MGB). I now have an MGA roadster and even with the standard big wheel they are heavy until you get moving, but power steering would take away some of the "feel" you get with the standard front suspension and steering. Just a thought if you are thinking of changing the front suspension. See if you can try a car that has had it changed first, before you spend the money, would be a good idea.
    Your videos are much appreciated.

Love the enthusiasm, great to see young lad giving you a hand. N\S kerb side will always be in a poorer condition given the salt in the gutter. Don't spray the cavity wax until all paint work has been completed or you sprayer will be very upset. Great job

Great video 👍 The best way to plug weld is put holes in the panel and scratch through remove primer etc.The best tool on your wishlist is a hole punch and joggel tool.😊

You are doing a good job on all the jobs to do with the sills I hate doing them as most cars the metal is really thin but that mg looks thicker as older cars was built better well some are 😂🤣 but it's good to see a young lad showing a interest and helping and you teaching the basics 👍

You're going well with the panel replacements.
Once all the welding is done I always shoot in, with an atomisising air gun, Fisholene, (deodorised fish oil), thoroughly into all the cavities through the drain holes and any other openings. It has great "wick in" qualities and protects the unreachable lamination areas burnt by welding heat from rusting. It lasts a surprisingly long time. It can be messy for a period until it surface dries and stops dripping out, but really will protect for a lifetime if done well.
The left hand side, just another challenge mate.

Excellent work, that whole side of the B is coming together beautifully . As fro the finger injust , Ouch , that looks like it hurt like hell. I remember taking the front wings off my B and seeing the same kind of rust you discovered, and just walking away, that was over 30 years ago

@@HJRgarage These days my idea of an MG restoration amounts to
      A Remove number plates
B roll old car out of the way
      c Drop in new shell
      D add in re-built mechanicals
      d attach number plates
If nothing else the chances of injury are much reduced!

Just watched this series through, great work! My son and I have picked up a ‘76 GT and surprise surprise, it needs four wings, both sills and whatever other nasties we discover along the way!

What do you think of those finger files some people seem to think they are not as good as the ones with the motor on the side, I've been debating getting one through same as yours.

    • @HJRgarage
      @HJRgarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

It’s definitely not as good as the Black & Decker one. If you need to get into tight spaces and you’re not doing heavy metal work, it would be absolutely fine however I think I’m gonna buy another one with the motor on the side as there are a lot more powerful.

That bit of inner sill that is really badly pitted is virtually gone through, it would have been good practice to cut that out it will rot through.
