it's the police system way of protecting themselves with all liability. that could be why they act negligent. if they only hold ethical grounds a lot of crime can be prevented.

I feel so sorry for Colin. I had a stalker for 9 years, for 7 of those years he was to my knowledge my school bully, but by the time it got to 7 years he had befriended me. We went on a walk, I had forgiven him for his past actions and pinned it to immaturity, and agreed to hang out, and he took me to the middle of nowhere and that’s where he confessed to wanting to kill people, he told me he frequently killed animals and then told me if I told anyone he would kill me too, the only reason he hadn’t was he was obsessed with me and didn’t know why. I was 16, in the middle of nowhere, with this guy who was stalking me. But I didn’t know until then. For 2 years afterward my life got worse. But initially, when he told me that about himself, just like Colin and for self preservation purposes I acted very casual, like I didn’t care, I even faked interest in murder to keep him talking so he didn’t notice I was terrified for my life. I still believe this saved my life. I think every woman who was raped and the families of the slain victims should have sued the police department. If they had listened to that sorry excuse of a human's mother then the rest might have been spared. I hope guilt eats at all of them for their failures.
Although I agree with you, I doubt it would have spared all of them. We all know how the justice system is. Since it was his first offense, he would have gotten just a few years. Sure, it would have spared some of them, but he would have continued to rape and eventually murder women after getting out of prison. I highly doubt prison would have reformed him, had he been caught. But him going to prison the first time mean police would probably have kept a closer eye on him afterwards. So who knows.
They should've gotten compensation, not the cop who was part of a horrible operation to get a confession out of a man who had nothing to do with the case

Plus, in that first trial, he may have been found to be mentally ill and maybe would have been put in a pysch facility only to be release upon treatment. Also, understand that the escalation in violence and murder happen as the criminals get more and more cocky as they dont get caught. speedbumps sometimes prevent escalation. That policewoman consented to taking part in the operation. She apologised to Colin, saying 'it's my job', and whatnot, meaning she did it willingly to keep her job. I understand that of course she would've undergone some form of psychological trauma from the ordeal, but arguably nothing anywhere near what Alex would've experienced. To give that woman £125,000 for something she consented to, when a victim who witnessed the murder of his own mother at the age 2 years old was only awarded £20,000 for therapy to last him the rest of his life is truly disgusting. It's purely infuriating, and I hope with all my heart that Alex has been able to live a life that is a close to 'normal' as possible, and has been able to grow up as happy as he could, and I'm overjoyed to hear that he is living a good, happy, and peaceful life, currently.
Eh... I feel leery calling it consent. You can't fully consent to sex with your boss when they proposition you when the boss may fire you for saying no. For the same reason, I doubt you can fully consent to acting as a sex worker at the behest of the police department bosses, who are probably men, telling you that you need to do this and to keep going or else another woman's rape and murder will go unpunished. Consent is also ongoing and can be revoked at any time. If you say yes and change you mind and a sexual partner doesn't stop, it's rape. If she consented at first to terms that were safe and ethical, terms which changed, and then pressured into continuing to give consent by her bosses when she was clearly uncomfortable, she wasn't able to keep consenting.
@@emexdizzy My understanding of police work in the UK is that you can’t be forced to go undercover by your superiors. It’s done on a voluntary basis with compensation because of the additional risk involved. It’s an assignment that you apply for rather than a job you’re allocated without consent.
@@4legsalex706 But just because it's not legal to force something doesn't mean it's not done, or wasn't done at this time. The whole thing is unethical, you can't assume that they ethically went about having this officer do this as well.
If she consented to doing something sexual in order to keep her job then no, it's not consent. Yes, Alex should have been given more, but those two should be looked at separately. If you worked so hard to get your job and your boss said you had to pretend to be into depraved things, and you had to live for 7 months writing and flirting with someone you thought wanted to rape and murder you, and you had to go pretend you were into him, and you thought you had to because it was 'part of your job' then afterwards the public turns on you because your part was terrible and unethical, it would deeply affect you. The UK police are the real criminals they failed Rachel Nickell and 80 other women when they didnt respond to the murderers own mum when she turned him in.
Exactly I’ve seen so many people coming back with the argument that men get raped as well but just don’t say anything. I accept that but statistically more women are raped and yes they do say it but I bet there’s just as many women who don’t say as men. I know this isn’t the absolute best example but say just for example in sex education when Amy goes through the thing on the bus she is so resistant to go to the police, good thing Maeve cared enough Edit: I spelt maeve so wrong at first!!

It's so frustrating. Here is a mother who's done all she can to get her son help. Then, when that failed, did what she could to hold him responsible. The police seemed to not care about the rapes at all. :(

The police woman who pretended to be Lizzy James absolutely did not deserve all of that money but she could of pulled out of it at any time even at the risk of her job and didn’t need to carry on. Sickens me she gets that much money compared to Alex
I agree she did not deserve more money than the actual victim of the crime, but I'd have to know more about her to decide if she deserved anything at all. Depending how young she was, I imagine she was pressured into the job, and if she was relatively new to the force, she would have gone along with it for the sake of her career, regardless of how she felt about the ethics of it. And given her real name isn't public, I imagine part of that settlement was hush money so she wouldn't give even more details about an already unethical operation to the media.

The blood of all those victims are on the police hands. I understand that it can be difficult with no leads, but all they had to do was DNA test the FIRST VICTIM. His own mother turned him in, and they did nothing. Absolutely disgraceful.
it pisses me off so much that the freaking mother literally TOLD THE POLICE ABOUT HER OWN SON CONFESSING TO HER AND THEY DO NOTHING. I REALLY DON'T GET IT. very very upsetting.
Must've been hard for a mom to report her own son, most mom will protect their sons even after hearing such a confession. She really is/was a good woman.
I freaking hate the idea of men thinking they can do whatever the f they want to and with women so their fragile ego wouldn’t be shaken and their basic pretty easily controlled needs are satisfied. It just grosses me out. Wth is wrong with this world…
@Chocolate Stars I agree, those things that happened to him in the past are totally horrible, but they just explain, not excuse all of his actions. Also, my point is he only targeted on women with children, because men are so sure all females are weak and they can easily manipulate them with their kids. This guy from the video chose women all the time, not men. Because the knowledge that females are just a “thing to do stuff with” is deep inside people’s minds. My narration is kind of chaotic and messy, but i hope my point is clear. I think is sort of a stupid thing to deny that men think about women as of sexualized objects that have two functions: to give birth and to serve. And of course the result of his traumatic childhood is not only about the male issue. But imo it’s a massive part of it anyway.
@Chocolate Stars well… that’s literally what I explained earlier. I have no clue why you keep trying to convince me that his traumatic childhood experience is the main point in this story cus I already partly agreed with your opinion. But you just proved with your own words that his targets were women only due to the main idea of “weakness” and other stereotype bullsh*t about females. That exactly was the statement of my very first comment. I’m not saying that you are wrong, I’m just trying to explain my view on this situation here. That’s all :)
@Chocolate Stars Majority of the women I know were sexually abused by the men in their life, starting with their own blood. Fathers, brothers. Uncles, cousins. It happens to women, more often even, and they don’t receive justice or peace but they also do not go out and rape and kill men in the same light. The worst part is to see his actions explained in a way that paints him as a victim. By being a man, it allowed him to commit these crimes. It is a male issue.
girl! I can’t believe how fast you’re able to put out these cases. I would love to hear you talk about your process when researching and compiling information for a video. It seems like such a daunting task
I am so glad to hear Alex is doing well. It made me teary to think that his dad almost took both of their lives, but they have managed to stay strong and get past the tragedy and are both now doing okay ❤️
Something never sat right with me regarding this case , how can a person be considered mentally not responsible for this kind of crime but yet he still knows when to attack , I mean if you are mentally not responsible you wouldn’t know danger from safety . He wouldn’t have waited for the moment her boyfriend wasn’t there or wouldn’t have chosen to attack his victims in empty areas . Thank you for the 3 parts Eleanor , this must have been exhausting for you , thank you again 💕
the police did such a lousy job here, they could've done so much better if only they gave the attention and effort that they gave to Colin, *to* Robert, so much could've been prevented!
"Lizzie" knew what she was doing... she agreed to do it! The whole thing was disgusting. She agreed for MONTHS to do this. And I'm sure was paid WHILE doing it... IDK...
"Agreeing" to something is really not a sound way to judge. The women threatened with rape or their children would be killed couldn't give consent to the rapist. Consent can't happen when there's explicit or even implicit threat. What would have happened if she, as a woman on a mostly male force, said no? "Lizzie James" obviously wasn't going to be raped, but joblessness and poverty are not minor threats. They basically used her as a whore. I doubt she signed up to become an officer so that her department could exploit her as a sex worker (which this was, she was basically being a cam girl). I also doubt she agreed to it at the start believing she would be used to entrap him. She was probably told she needed to do it in order to protect other women from a bad man, that there would be boundaries, and she was pressured over and over into violating those boundaries. We shouldn't be saying "she agreed to it" when systems of power almost certainly pressured this woman into sex work. If she was under coercion, this probably could be seen as similar to sexual assault, even though she was also used as a tool to violate someone else' consent. Her culpability needs to be viewed through a more complex understanding of consent.

If men started getting sexually assaulted and raped at the same rate women do, sex offenders would start getting sentenced to life in prison after their first crime.
Men do. They just don’t report it because they’ve been conditioned to not say anything because they’re “supposed to enjoy it”... They also are laughed at for the same reason when they DO report it. Men are not taken seriously at all when it comes to assault, sexual assault, and/or rape. They’re told to “man up” or “you’re so lucky!” Or “stop being a little bitch...”. It’s something like 3 in 4 women experience it, while 2 in 4 or 3 in 4 men do. People just ignore men.
@@deborahwhitney9427 exactly! It’s amazing how little these people pay attention to actual rape and sexual assaults. And comments like this woman made, are only contributing to the shaming of male rape victims.
The sad thing is that sexual assault is SO common and no one, men OR women, are taken seriously. It’s horrible to think that victims don’t report because they feel they’ll just be ridiculed or blamed
Sad to think that most of these murderers were raised in an abusive environment and basically traumatized since childhood. Not all go to become murderers but many eventually become abusers themselves. A vicious cycle.
I forget where I saw this quote, but it said the worst crime you can commit is to hurt a child because they take that hurt and put it back in the world :(
You may think me heartless, but that is one sound reason pro abortion. If you can't give a child a good home, if you raise it in a violent, miserable, traumatizing environment, you send another potential predator out to prey on others. Republicans think that being pro birth is empathy enough. But I congratulate any potential mother who recognizes that she is in no position to raise a child or is with an unfit father early on.
@@Jim-so3zm No, it’s not heartless at all, it’s extremely mature. Abortion is and should always be seen as an option for women, if a woman is in an abusive relationship how on earth is bringing a child into that situation a good and safe idea?? It isn’t! Abortion is a very good option, if you’re so worried about the foetus why not go and adopt one of the many children that are already in the foster system instead of complaining about women doing something to their bodies that has absolutely nothing to do with you and also simultaneously avoiding a potentially dangerous situation for a child. Look at the bigger picture in the future instead of being immature and inconsiderate.

This story is so sad from all angles. It's always heartbreaking to see someone was just living their lives and then there was someone else who just decided it was fair to take their lives, to take them from those ones they love. A dedicated mother, a wife, a daughter, a friend.. it's horrible to know how unsafe we are. :( About the killer: I feel nothing for him as a man, he's just horrible. He deserves no pity. But I do feel bad for the boy he once was. Both my brothers are also Aspergers and I've seen so much - and that's not even everything. If people only knew what abuse, neglect and exclusion can do to someone, especially if they're "different" somehow..

Hi Eleanor! :3
YESS PART 3!!!
Finally 🥵💕
One thing to say on this
Read The Jigsaw Man by Paul Britton
He was the forensic psychologist on this case and follows or very closely
The book also has lots of high profile cases like Fred and Rose West and Jamie Bulger
80+ women attacked and they could have caught him after the first. That’s so horrifying.
Yep and especially with the mother's confession to police about her son...that should have been it.
Shame he didn't try that shit here in Texas, where it's 50/50 the intended victim is packing heat.
We don't feel the need to involve law enforcement here. We just take care of ourselves.

@@holly-rosemckinneycondren ABSOLUTELY!
If the police had just looked into the Mothers claim - all those women would have been spared the trauma and some their lives. Why is no disciplinary action ever taken???
it's the police system way of protecting themselves with all liability. that could be why they act negligent. if they only hold ethical grounds a lot of crime can be prevented.
A long time ago in history when a man did this he was blinded so that he could never get the opportunity to see anything. It was very effective.
Because the police system doesn’t protect women.
because misogyny
Women are rarely believed when they speak out.... Hope this is changing now but unsure of it being accurate
I can’t believe the police, like they were given a rapist and murderer in a gold platter so many times and they were just too lazy to do their job, disgusting.

The police officer deserved that amount. But Alex deserved more.
The whole thing was unethical, and you can't expect that her bosses were fair to her when they were so focused on this honey trap happening in the first place!
And people wonder why women and vulnerable men are afraid off males… when guys like this exist. Off course it’s not all men but it’s enough that’s it’s a problem. Over 80 women he assaulted 😞couldn’t imagine being around at this time being too scared to even open your door or go out your house.

I know this isn’t the absolute best example but say just for example in sex education when Amy goes through the thing on the bus she is so resistant to go to the police, good thing Maeve cared enough
Edit: I spelt maeve so wrong at first!!

This is so infuriating, it made me so angry. She did all the right things to protect all the other women and at the end, 80 women are sexually assaulted by this PoS and several young mothers are dead and their children orphans.
Its honestly so sad
It's so frustrating. Here is a mother who's done all she can to get her son help. Then, when that failed, did what she could to hold him responsible.
The police seemed to not care about the rapes at all. :(

Unbelievable
Diminished responsibility? For someone who went out and raped so many and murdered, then went back to his place and marked on a map where he murdered? Nah. I call bullshit.
Right? Like, maybe if he'd only done this once that would fit, but he had so many victims! He very clearly planned out his crimes to some extent. The most terrifying thing about this whole case is that people like Napper are still out there. I'm 16 and I have to worry about looking over my shoulder to make sure there isn't some 40 year old following me on my way home.
Becareful out there sweetie, but more so around new friends etc, sadly many sexual assaults, "love crimes" happen by someone YOU have met, or known, that is a proven fact. Most harm for some reason, killing a women happen by their love one when they become pregnant. Just never doubt your gut instinct, never! The biggest concern for women tends to be family and friends, unfortunately /: however, men are very much at risk of stranger violence.
You are more in danger from kids closer to your age, I’m sorry to say. It’s not always some ‘old creepy man’. It sucks but we really can’t assume anyone is safe.
the lack of effort the police made is absolutely disgusting.

And given her real name isn't public, I imagine part of that settlement was hush money so she wouldn't give even more details about an already unethical operation to the media.
she should have been fired, and sued. she deserved everything that happened to her afterwards, she should have been the one that was sued
Fr how is she getting 6x the amount of compensation a child who witnessed his mother's murder and SA when all she did was try to catfish a bloke in an attempt to get a wrongful confession
@@caoilfhionndunbar I am not defending her actions or the operation, but it was a fully coordinated attack with multiple people involved.
@Chocolate Stars I agree...you're no psychologist.
@Chocolate Stars doesn’t quite matter what they have to add. They’re right. You’re no psychologist.
girl! I can’t believe how fast you’re able to put out these cases. I would love to hear you talk about your process when researching and compiling information for a video. It seems like such a daunting task

Also the court: gives him 8 weeks
the police did such a lousy job here, they could've done so much better if only they gave the attention and effort that they gave to Colin, *to* Robert, so much could've been prevented!
"Lizzie" knew what she was doing... she agreed to do it! The whole thing was disgusting. She agreed for MONTHS to do this. And I'm sure was paid WHILE doing it... IDK...
she was paid a lot more than any other officer on the case
I am so happy to see Rachel's son is doing well!! He deserves to live a happy life and I am sure his mom is with him every step of the way ❤

What an ignorant comment to make. Men do get raped. But less report it because they are made fun of.
@@deborahwhitney9427 exactly! It’s amazing how little these people pay attention to actual rape and sexual assaults. And comments like this woman made, are only contributing to the shaming of male rape victims.

@@intrepidtomato Yeah, you are heartless. Everyone deserves a chance at life and there's no guarantee things will turn out that badly.
@@intrepidtomato Thank you for speaking it out. No baby should be forced to be born into a life of misery, neglect and abuse!
Look at the bigger picture in the future instead of being immature and inconsiderate.
hey Eleanor, could you title them at least "part 1" and so on so it's easier to binge-watch? i watch your videos when I'm working on my work. thanks!

All we have to do is click her name and find the video we’re watching, then the next parts would be right next to it!
This story is so sad from all angles. It's always heartbreaking to see someone was just living their lives and then there was someone else who just decided it was fair to take their lives, to take them from those ones they love. A dedicated mother, a wife, a daughter, a friend.. it's horrible to know how unsafe we are. :(
About the killer: I feel nothing for him as a man, he's just horrible. He deserves no pity.
But I do feel bad for the boy he once was. Both my brothers are also Aspergers and I've seen so much - and that's not even everything. If people only knew what abuse, neglect and exclusion can do to someone, especially if they're "different" somehow..
