Thats why you have to prove and show why you should go pro. You cant just go cause you think your #1 or its your last year. Theres probably lots of players who would have done great in the nba.
I remember in 2000 Weber St had a guy Harold Arceneaux that was absolutely killing everyone in sight. He blew up in the NCAA tournament too Then disappeared right off the map
For Damian Lillard's case, he kept transferring to different schools. He was 5"5" in his freshman year that grew to 5"11ft tall. Going to 3 different HS before his important summer season before senior year hurts his recruitment as he kept bouncing to different school because of lacking of playing time and because of the high cost of a private school in his Soph year that he transferred to a big class sized public school. If he had gone to a better "basketball school" in the Alameda / Oakland area, he might get more notice. Who knows? If he had grown more taller before his senior year, maybe more offers would come his way. He wound up growing three more inches to his 6 "2" listed height.
There's a theme running through a few of these which is that they had to develop a game before they had physically developed. By the time they grew or filled out, they had developed an all-round game that didn't rely on height or strength.
I heard of Weber State way before Lillard. They were the 14th seeded team who upset the North Carolina Tarheels, a 3rd seeded team in the 1999 NCAA tournament
Can't catch all the fish. I don't think recruiters and scouts are really kicking themselves about not seeing the way these guys would develop. A related question is whether they were going to be stars regardless or whether they became stars because they were motivated by being overlooked. Either way, glad they put in the work and we get to watch them do what they do on court, now.
It matters when you peak. Booker was a 6th man in college. He is a multi-millionaire now. Some amazing players dont get better in the NBA and so they dont become dominant. Some people still look at high school as their golden years. Sad. Keep getting better.
1:21 - Steph was drafted 9th overall??? Whoever is narrating this needs to get their facts correct Golden State had the 7th pick. Not the 9th pick. Timberwolves had 5 & 6 pick. Golden State had 7. New York had 8 and desperately wanted Steph. And then Toronto had the 9th pick which they used to draft DeMar DeRozen

Even by espn's ranking he was number 31, and that's definitely going up this year, what are you talking about. He averaged 19 and 7 as a sophomore player
We made a mistake and said Steph was drafted #9, when he was actually drafted #7.
Sorry Steph!
Yea I was about to say because the Knicks wanted to draft him at 8 but the warriors took him at 7
DEMAR WAS DRAFTED AT 9THHH
