While Jordan's height may only be 6'6 his ability to leap and stay off the ground made him impossible to guard. Couple that with his underrated strength and he was unstoppable. Even with the height advantage that Durant has, his back to the basket game wasn't nearly as deadly as MJ's and I have no doubt that if the 3 ball had been as prevalent in the 80's and 90's, that MJ wouldn't have created an ungaurdable deep shot to match.

I think I've only seen one video talk about it, but Jordan's first step is probably the quickest and most explosive I've ever seen out of any player. That's partly why he was so efficient at mid-range scoring; people had to respect his first step and his ability to just blow right by them

When that's your line against one of the best defenders in NBA history, against the best team of the decade, it's the definition of unguardable.

Being unguardable is also about mentality which is where MJ beats kd by a long shot. Kd was more physically gifted, but MJs mentality and sheer will as a scorer is unmatched. You can see it in the numbers. Kd has 4 scoring titles, MJ has 10. Kd averaged 30 or more twice, MJ did it 8 times. KD’s second highest scoring season ever is MJ’s career average. I truly believe KD could’ve eclipsed MJ as the best scorer ever, but he just doesn’t have the killer takeover gene in him that MJ had. You could be the most talented player ever, but if you don’t go out there and impose your will on the opponent, then you make yourself so much more guardable.

I doubt it about volume. It about a lot of ways to score. There are players like LeBron, Steph, Shaq and many who can score but don't have a lot of ways to do so, whenever you shut them down where they good at then they have nothing.

Could finish at the rim way better than KD. Mid range game was efficient. Could shoot threes when he needed to (ask Portland). Great FT shooter. Clutch. Way underrated passer. Actually averaged a triple double early in his career when he ran the point, many people don’t know that. Scored 45 with the flu. Wilt played more minutes in his career than MJ did - in fact, you have to pull out folks that played 3 OR MORE years (Elvin Hayes at 16, then you need 19+ year men past Elvin) than Wilt did to pass his total minuted played. That "age 40" stuff is somewhat overrated - there are a BUNCH of folks that were still playing at 40+, starting with every player that had 19 or more years in the league except Moses Malone (straight out of high school) - and MJ only managed 15 years by 40, Kevin Garnett (also straight out of high school) managed 21 and A LOT more minutes.

So yea it’s more of just poor fundamentals of his opponents and a lower missed shot trajectory range (because barely any guy in the 80s and 90s can take a legit volume amount of 3s compare today) then jordan being that good because he wasn’t even on par to guys like Clyde, Alvin Robertson, Dennis Johnson in his prime, and Ron Harper in his prime, in offensive rebounds. Not to mention he just got less then 2 and generally hit 6 total for most of his prime, I don’t know how with less possessions he’ll get more total rebounds. So unless he plays Russ’ role then no he cannot get 9 rebounds. Especially since he’s never shown to get 9 boards especially even in just desperate playoffs series he’s hit 9 boards or more 3x in his entire career.

None of these modern players would average as many points in older era's for a number of reasons. Hand checking, lack of spacing, hard fouls, and lack of 3 point shots would hinder their performances. That's why I hate when players are compared to players from different era's without context. If Harden played in the 90's he wouldn't be shooting more than like 3 or 4 three's a game, and therefore his efficiency and overall point total would be down. He also wouldn't have the spacing that he has today, and when he drove to the hoop to get a foul he would be fouled HARD over and over and over again. Who knows how he would have dealt with that, but it sure as hell would be a lot more scary and a lot more painful than what he has to deal with now.
Long Thread Michael Jordan - Most Athletically gifted scorer ever. Initially using his athleticism driven by his competitiveness to make the most electrifying baskets ever. Later on he created the most efficient scoring packages that has been passed on the league. Namely his fade away is un guardable and maximizing it through post ups. Now Bron can be in this most Athletically gifted scorer category but we all know he's a pass first type of player. People can argue he was efficient from the triangle but he was still deadly even from the wizards. AI - too damn fast and relentless, and his HEART is iconic. Arenas said it best, 100 mph from start to finish and his thin frame makes refs easier to call fouls on him. Tmac - Injuries derailed him so bad. If he can be compared to a fictional character, he'd be Darth Vader. He was way ahead of his time and the game was really easy for him. Kobe - Most relentless and arguably most skilled player. Relentless because he won't stop coming at you and your team, will force up and MAKE shots even through double teams and triple teams. Also can be argued as the smartest scorer due to knowing his defender's tendencies against him, plus he has Jordan's shot package. Melo - One of the most physical scorers yet is a rhythm player. Has Kobe's tendencies in forcing shots but his play is more for himself. James Harden - Most frustrating player to guard, simple, you guard him on the perimeter and he'll drive and those foul drawing abilities come into play which really revolutionized the modern NBA, you sag off him and you get the 3. You guard those 2 aspects and he can pass. His moves are designed to dissect defenders' tendencies, but if there's a weakness in his game, it's that he relies on the skills and moves he trained for and can't improvise. When his moves are shut down, he's got nothing left and just drags his feet. Kevin Durant - Too tall, too efficient. His long stature makes his strides long and makes AI's cross overs look easy. The Apex of his jumpshot is higher than average, and he is too damn efficient and fast. Problem with him is his team makes him do too much which isn't his forte naturally. OKC and brooklyn are good examples. Golden state really maximized his best traits. Kyrie - Can't be the most unguardable, but someone no one wants to guard, He is the most talented scorer ever. His skillset most likely made players train their ankles more, he's deadly as a shooter and deadlier under the basket. He's redefined what an iconic basketball player should be and the most fun to watch. He's also the closest player to kobe imo. Once he gets it going, he's impossible to guard, BUT same as kobe who forces shots, Kyrie will dribble his way and takes the game by the throat whether he'll make the shot or not. The bad part is, he can't do it by himself, unlike AI who he's been compared to, he needs a player with a tremendous amount of gravity to give him space and operate 1 on 1 and that player should know how to pass, that's why he can't carry a team. Jordan Poole - oh please 🤣 Curry - The most revolutionary outside scorer in the history of the game. I said scorer due to bias. All these guys mentioned above make most of their points through jumpshots through most of their careers, but why is curry considered a shooter? Imo a shooter is someone like Reggie Miller, movement without the ball, catch and shoot. Due to having handles and having a deadly jumper outside the 3 point line, he revolutionized the game forever. He's not really used to contact which makes him easy to guard when he puts the ball on the floor. He got exploited by the grit and grind grizzlies, and achieved contact scoring later on his career. Feel free to add another player or players guys.. Imo, KD is probably the most unguardable, there's nothing you can do even if you put a hand in his face or play physical with him.

Could finish at the rim way better than KD. Mid range game was efficient. Could shoot threes when he needed to (ask Portland). Great FT shooter. Clutch. Way underrated passer. Actually averaged a triple double early in his career when he ran the point, many people don’t know that. Scored 45 with the flu. Averaged 37 PPG in 87 with real centers, no three in the key, and hand checking. Come on...

Wilt's scoring average dropped in the playoffs!
Wilt played more minutes in his career than MJ did - in fact, you have to pull out folks that played 3 OR MORE years (Elvin Hayes at 16, then you need 19+ year men past Elvin) than Wilt did to pass his total minuted played.
That "age 40" stuff is somewhat overrated - there are a BUNCH of folks that were still playing at 40+, starting with every player that had 19 or more years in the league except Moses Malone (straight out of high school) - and MJ only managed 15 years by 40, Kevin Garnett (also straight out of high school) managed 21 and A LOT more minutes.

You have to analyze postseason numbers. That's where MJ seperates himself from anyone else who ever played, including Durant.
Not as much as you think - pretty much ALL of the true greats brought out their "A" game in the playoffs, and improved their regular season numbers.

Mj is not averaging 50 unless he played in the 60s or 50s. Hes averaging maybe 35/9/9 on 65/30/85 splits. No1 would be able to stop his midranges and finishes inside the paint, and his defense/hustle would make him elite.

Also that should show how bad backcourt box outs were if jordan is getting that many offensive rebounds and before you say that’s how good he was, he’s actually just average amongst shooting guards of his era in offensive rebounds. So yea it’s more of just poor fundamentals of his opponents and a lower missed shot trajectory range (because barely any guy in the 80s and 90s can take a legit volume amount of 3s compare today) then jordan being that good because he wasn’t even on par to guys like Clyde, Alvin Robertson, Dennis Johnson in his prime, and Ron Harper in his prime, in offensive rebounds. Not to mention he just got less then 2 and generally hit 6 total for most of his prime, I don’t know how with less possessions he’ll get more total rebounds. So unless he plays Russ’ role then no he cannot get 9 rebounds. Especially since he’s never shown to get 9 boards especially even in just desperate playoffs series he’s hit 9 boards or more 3x in his entire career.

None of these modern players would average as many points in older era's for a number of reasons. Hand checking, lack of spacing, hard fouls, and lack of 3 point shots would hinder their performances. That's why I hate when players are compared to players from different era's without context. If Harden played in the 90's he wouldn't be shooting more than like 3 or 4 three's a game, and therefore his efficiency and overall point total would be down. He also wouldn't have the spacing that he has today, and when he drove to the hoop to get a foul he would be fouled HARD over and over and over again. Who knows how he would have dealt with that, but it sure as hell would be a lot more scary and a lot more painful than what he has to deal with now.

Michael Jordan - Most Athletically gifted scorer ever. Initially using his athleticism driven by his competitiveness to make the most electrifying baskets ever. Later on he created the most efficient scoring packages that has been passed on the league. Namely his fade away is un guardable and maximizing it through post ups. Now Bron can be in this most Athletically gifted scorer category but we all know he's a pass first type of player. People can argue he was efficient from the triangle but he was still deadly even from the wizards.
AI - too damn fast and relentless, and his HEART is iconic. Arenas said it best, 100 mph from start to finish and his thin frame makes refs easier to call fouls on him.
Tmac - Injuries derailed him so bad. If he can be compared to a fictional character, he'd be Darth Vader. He was way ahead of his time and the game was really easy for him.
Kobe - Most relentless and arguably most skilled player. Relentless because he won't stop coming at you and your team, will force up and MAKE shots even through double teams and triple teams. Also can be argued as the smartest scorer due to knowing his defender's tendencies against him, plus he has Jordan's shot package.
Melo - One of the most physical scorers yet is a rhythm player. Has Kobe's tendencies in forcing shots but his play is more for himself.
James Harden - Most frustrating player to guard, simple, you guard him on the perimeter and he'll drive and those foul drawing abilities come into play which really revolutionized the modern NBA, you sag off him and you get the 3. You guard those 2 aspects and he can pass. His moves are designed to dissect defenders' tendencies, but if there's a weakness in his game, it's that he relies on the skills and moves he trained for and can't improvise. When his moves are shut down, he's got nothing left and just drags his feet.
Kevin Durant - Too tall, too efficient. His long stature makes his strides long and makes AI's cross overs look easy. The Apex of his jumpshot is higher than average, and he is too damn efficient and fast. Problem with him is his team makes him do too much which isn't his forte naturally. OKC and brooklyn are good examples. Golden state really maximized his best traits.
Kyrie - Can't be the most unguardable, but someone no one wants to guard, He is the most talented scorer ever. His skillset most likely made players train their ankles more, he's deadly as a shooter and deadlier under the basket. He's redefined what an iconic basketball player should be and the most fun to watch. He's also the closest player to kobe imo. Once he gets it going, he's impossible to guard, BUT same as kobe who forces shots, Kyrie will dribble his way and takes the game by the throat whether he'll make the shot or not. The bad part is, he can't do it by himself, unlike AI who he's been compared to, he needs a player with a tremendous amount of gravity to give him space and operate 1 on 1 and that player should know how to pass, that's why he can't carry a team.

Curry - The most revolutionary outside scorer in the history of the game. I said scorer due to bias. All these guys mentioned above make most of their points through jumpshots through most of their careers, but why is curry considered a shooter? Imo a shooter is someone like Reggie Miller, movement without the ball, catch and shoot. Due to having handles and having a deadly jumper outside the 3 point line, he revolutionized the game forever. He's not really used to contact which makes him easy to guard when he puts the ball on the floor. He got exploited by the grit and grind grizzlies, and achieved contact scoring later on his career.
Feel free to add another player or players guys.. Imo, KD is probably the most unguardable, there's nothing you can do even if you put a hand in his face or play physical with him.
