ResMed AirSense 10 vs Philips Respironics DreamStation

  • I have used both the ResMed Airsense 10 and the Philips Respironics DreamStation auto CPAP machines and this is a comparison between the two. I forgot to say that the Philips is the DreamStation, but it is. If you are considering buying one of these machines, some of these small details may help you decide. They are BOTH great machines and are super quiet. Feel free to ask any questions, I will try to answer as best as I can.

    Despite what Phillips says, I would not put the water chamber in the dishwasher - especially the drying cycle. That metal plate when it is heated in the dishwasher is probably cracking the plastic.

    This is a good comparison. I used a Dream station for 18 months, changed to a Resmed for the last two months. To me, the resmed is eons ahead of the dream station for doing what it is supposed to, which is help me sleep at night. I personally sleep better and feel so much better overall using the resmed. Your mileage may vary.

    Very helpful. I've just trialled the Resmed for two months and am going in to buy one today, but wanted to look at the Dreamstation as well. After watching this, I'm definitely sticking with the Resmed. Smaller, quieter (if only just!), less finicky to get started and a more durable tank. That's a big win for Resmed.

    Thanks so much for putting this on, great comparison, very helpful. I was torn between the two machines because I wanted to get a very quiet machine, I currently have the philips resprionics system one bipap been using it for 5 years and in the past few months its been having issues with the machine whistling, not holding pressure and its just loud. After seeing this video though I'm now leaning more towards the resmed. Again thanks for posting.

    I used the DS1 for 2-3 years until Foamgate hit. It was great to use, until the recall. Now I’m using an AirSense 10, and can’t imagine going back to Phillips. They each have strengths and quirks, but the AS10 - to me - is just a better machine. Plus, it won’t make me sick.

      Over time the cracks around the plate happen with hand washing too. I don’t own a dishwasher but I have seen the little cracks over time. I suspect it’s the heating element beneath the water chamber, but a dishwasher intuitively seems like it would speed this process up … just my opinion

    I agree with the comments below, ResMed is better overall...smaller footprint, auto on when mask is placed and the hose quality is far superior. I used the PR DS for a couple of weeks and the hoses are crap. They tore at the slightest tugs. Also to turn off the machine, you need to hold the button down for several seconds before it shuts off. Otherwise, it’ll keep running. Now I’m forced to go with the DS, because ResMed machines don’t give the high pressure I need on my new ASV. ☹️

    I recently purchased a Resmed Airsense 10 autoset after using a Resmed S9 Elite for 10 years (that still works). I have been a little disappointed with the Resmed Airsense 10 autoset.
    The S9 is a better overall design and the humidifier reservoir is easier to clean. The position of the screen on the 10 is silly and it is at a bad angle to read. I could go on.

    • @davidbakin1953
      @davidbakin1953 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is very interesting about the Airsense 10 as I'm just about to upgrade from a S9 to one of these two machines. (Nothing wrong with the S9 at all - it's just 6 years old.) Looking forward to _either_ of these machines as they both seem much quieter than the S9 (which wasn't bad at all compared to the machines I was using before that!). I'm leaning towards the Dreamstation though because I have a Dreamstation Go for travel/airplanes and that's just wonderful ...

    Main thing about all those machine is amount of noise they produce. They are making noise when its quiet home at night time. You can here specific nose every time you exhale. Second later after exhale, machine produce some kind of wiared noise. Its not loud, but when you keep notice it - it keeps you awake. I had 2 machine previous generation. Older machine - is super quiet. I took it apart and noticed big fat foam insulation inside machine. Old machine was heavy but absolutely quiet. System one machine not as quiet, but still much better then new one, which i assume does not have sufficient insulation inside (cost reduction). I bought new machine and end up using old one, because that tiny noise keeping me awake.

    So since you were a previous Dreamstatiion user and I am a new Dreamstation user coming from 5 years' use of ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset have you seen different data coming from the change in machines? I have been using the Dreamstation now for 5 days and have seen Periodic Breathing, Increased Snore, and RERA, which I never saw while using the Airsense10. I have noticed as well that the Dreamstation does not raise the pressure as the Airsense10 did during use. I am just wondering if you have seen better therapy from Resmed Airsense than from the Dreamstation. I got the Dreamstation because insurance was paying for a new machine and I thought I would give it a try to see what it would be like. I would appreciate you thoughts.

    I like my Philips and my gf using the resmed. Water tank is so much better and although the footprint looks bigger its also a flat top so if you put stuff on your nightstand you will still have the space to do so just put it on top of the unit. I don't know how you manage with the full mask. I use the under nose and it works perfect even with full pressure being used.

    Awesome video! Just letting you know, you will have to change the ResMed humidifier, the same thing will happen, and will need to be changed. ResMed recommend changing it every 6 months, but if it's looked after, you should get 12 months or more. I used to soak my humidifier in a disinfectant/antibacterial solution, but it breaks down the glue that's used. I've learnt that it's much better to just wash the humidifier with warm soapy water...not hot. How have you found using it so far?

    I really like the idea respironics has with the air filter vs resmed. Resmed is very loose and floppy air filter. It's loose fitting vs the right cartridge of the respironics. Thoughts please. I am buying soon. Air filter is super important to keep the machine clean. And covid I don't want covid.. the cracks to your plastic water chamber is likely do to the dishwasher heat is very hot with soap enzymes breaking down the plastic. The water chamber is going to help the sound if you put water in it. Also I have hose covers and it really helps. I got the blue respironics and the grey resmed tube zipper covers. How's the software on the smart phone? Which one allows you to get a better idea of your apnea issue?
