Nick From CPAP reviews takes a look at how to change the clinical settings on the philips dreamstation.
How to change pressure on your Dreamstation -
Accessing Provider mode unlocks settings that cannot be modified by the user. To access Provider mode:1. Supply power to the device. First, plug the socket end of the AC power cord into the power supply. Then plug the pronged end of the AC power cord into an electrical outlet that is not controlled by a wall switch. Finally, plug the powersupply cord's connector into the power inlet on the back of the device.
    2. Once the device is powered, press and hold both the control dial and the Ramp button for around 5 seconds.
Therapy Settings - Choosing this screen will take you to a sub-menu where you can adjust the device therapy modes and pressure settings. These settings are described here.
Opti-Start- This feature starts an Auto-CPAP therapy session at a starting pressure that is closer to the previous session's 90% pressure, in order to reduce the likelihood of any residual events at the beginning of a therapy session. You can enable or disable this feature.

I had the same experience! It was like they were trying to explode my lungs with the absurdly high pressure. First I was lent the machine by my provider to try out for a week, smart ramp enabled, and it worked perfectly - zero apnea. But when they gave me the machine after my insurers agreed to pay for it, smart ramp was disabled and the pressure fixed at 13. Loony! This video has allowed me to take control myself! Ten thousand thanks to Nick for this vid!

Using this video, I set the auto-max to the 90% level (3 less than it was set on originally) and the problem is solved!
Good sleep plus peace and quiet!!!!!

So, 3 1/2 years ago I was fitted with this machine…kinda…they stuck it on my face and said looks good, off you go! I didn’t know squat about the machine, it’s capabilities or menu. I also found sleeping with it a nightly wrestling match and of no benefit resting or waking refreshed, etc. I felt like CRAP! Then I discovered this video series… Ive adjusted all the necessary settings and am actually looking forward to experiencing some positive results for a change! Thanks for putting to this series together for all the tortured souls out there!

Hi there, yes the therapy can be very difficult in the beginning but with a little bit of time and effort it will become a lot more enjoyable and comfortable. Glad you found the video helpful. Have a great day. Nick

Thank you so much for posting this video. It is very helpful. I tend to like to tweak things and this give me enough confidence to begin to mess with the settings on my new DreamStation auto. My starting pressure is way too low (4) and being able to increase the minimum pressure lets me get to proper pressure quicker, which is good.

Thanks so much for doing this video, it was so helpful to understand my replacement CPAP Phillps sent me to replace my recalled one. Started with 3 of 3, looking for 1 and 2 of 3 to watch them, thanks again.

I wonder if the recalled ones are safe now. I've been struggling through trying to use an AirSense 10 and it's about to ruin m life. I have a replacement DreamStation and would love to get back in my CPAP-Cadillac and begin sleeping again. Dark circles and bags under my eyes with the new junk is not fun

Getting one of these tomorrow, and am so excited to start my therapy!
I already know what my settings are from my old machine, and can't wait for this machine to hopefully improve my sleep.

@@CPAPReviews Got it 3 days ago, and I'm over the moon!
It replaced a Respronics System 1, that was on its last leg. While a good unit for its time, the Dream Station blows it out of the water!
Thanks to your video, setup was a breeze!
My original setup was 14 max pressure, so I set this at 15 max, just to give it a little headroom.
I had the min set at 5, but raised it to 6, because it was just too low, and had me feeling a little claustrophobic, but 6 is perfect!
Set to auto, it just works! When it comes on, it's so quiet, I thought it wasn't working, LOL!
It's so nice to go to sleep, and let this machine just do its magic.
3 nights in, I haven't felt this well rested in years!
I got this without a prescription, because I just didn't want the hassle of telling my Dr, going through another *#&@ sleep study, just to have them tell me what machine I'm going to use.
I've done a ton of research, and thanks to your informative videos, decided on the Dream Station, and am so glad I did!
I've even downloaded the app that goes with this system, and now am more informed than ever before!
The insights into my sleep cycles will make tweaking the settings in the future more accurate than a Dr ever will.
I might even buy a second one, and store it as a backup, LOL!

Awesome info, I'll try it after Philips fixes my machine. I always found that when the pressure was higher than 12 I woke up constantly, felt like I was driving with my head out the window! Caused air leak issues as well.
