    Thanks for taking the time to show us the difference between the 2 machines! I don't like the way the humidifier is designed on the dream station 2. I also don't like the fact that you have to remove the humidifier in order to replace the filters. If I am laying in bed which is how most people use their machine I will not be able to see or adjust the setting menu on the Dream Station 2 like I can on the Dream Station 1. It looks to me like they took a step backward on the new machine.

    Prefer the DS1 - looks like the DS2 was mainly designed as a cheap recall replacement for the DS1 or System One (if not repairable).
    Thanks for showing the side grating where the outside air comes in !

      Exactly! The DS1 was about $2,600 when I purchased it. The DS 2 was about $800 before Philips jacked up the cost. So basically it's 1/3 the price of the original -- the poor design and pared down features/controls prove that out.

      @@everquestfan Hi PC - I have a Philips DS1 - Philips contacted me and said they would not repair the old one but send me a brand new machine half DS1and that I would have to connect the old DS1 humidifier to that new machine half to make it part new (the new machine half) and part old (the old humidifier half). the new half was not refurbished but brand new. It came in a brand new Philips carry bag, with new filters and a new power supply and cord = a simple hose but not heated (would have to connect the old heated hose to the humidifier. I noticed the new power supply transformer was the same watts in power but smaller in size. Philips did want the old one back (old machine half sent back to them for research purposes). I said I would like to keep it so they accepted taking back an old Philips System One Series 60 I had lying around ( I took the old bad foam out first as evidence if required). Trusting I helped...

    Received the DreamStation 2 directly from Philips Respironics last week as a replacement for my recalled DreamStation. First and foremost, the design of the humidification chamber is horrific. What a colossal pain in the a#@ to have to disassemble the machine to fill the chamber every night. I'm sure that many of us place our CPAPs on a small bedside table and there just is not enough room to maneuver everything around to pull the machine apart in order to add water. I agree with other commenters that the user interface on the top of the machine is a bit small and doesn't accommodate "fat fingers", as well as the fact that the screen cannot be seen easily once the user is in the prone position. Sure, it blows air at the force determined to be appropriately therapeutic for my level of apnea, but many of the design features are a "fail". Unless I want to pay out of pocket, I have no real choice but to use this DreamStation 2 for a few years until the next time my Doc re-assesses my condition.

      100% agree with others on the new dream station. It’s ridiculous how hard it is to refill. I’m not satisfied with this replacement.

    • @westentrance
      @westentrance ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus, some of us don’t use the humidifier. With the old machine, you just disconnect the humidifier and plug the hose directly into the machine. Can’t do that with the new one. Also the filters are on the inside of the humidifier area. So you have to constantly disconnect the janky, ill fitting humidifier to change them. Too many problematic plastic parts. It’s the humidifier construction that will land the Dreamstation 2 in the trash before long.

    • @LifesaverM
      @LifesaverM ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely agree. As someone who will be traveling again, that's the one plus side to the new unit the size and weight. But beyond that the DS2 is a complete design failure. Used to just be able to flip the water chamber lid up now you have to rip the machine apart and hope you don't dump the water as you set it down how insane! The screen is also very small compared to the original I agree as well but the humidified reservoir is my biggest gripe about this unit and its a HUGE one. The lid feels like it will eventually crack and break, its a nightmare waiting to happen. Replacing the filters was a lot easier as well because you used to access from the side and now you have to pull the tank off.

    I prefer the original DS1. In fact I DO NOT like the new one at all. First, on the 1 the hose exits from the top and rotates so that the machine will stay in place on the night stand where as on the 2 it is only 1 position, out the front so the machine moves about on the night stand. Next the 1 had basically an integrated night light that I could just turn the knob 1 click and it would come on for about a minute. The 2 has no such feature. And my biggest pet peeve about the 2 is the poorly designed water chamber. On the 1 just open the lid and remove it. Clean it and it had very easy drying capability (no "nooks and crannies) on the 2 you need to completely remove the water chamber (which is awkward for me because due to spinal fusion I can not bent at the waist). Also it is very difficult to completely dry it after washing. There are at least 5 or 6 places where you simply can not feed a drying towel or rag. Also the lid is VERY fragile. It's made out of a very brittle plastic and if not VERY careful it WILL break. MY over all rating on the Dreamstation 2 is 3 thumbs DOWN. I only got it because my old DS1 was recalled. I am also up for a renewal in a few days so I will be looking at a different machine all together I think. Get your act together Phillips. Reinstate the DS1 with better foam and scrap the DS2 design all together. It is TERRIBLE!!!

      @@bcape-su6gr The DreamStation (first one) was recalled because they used a foam inside of the machine to muffle the sounds it makes. But with high humidity and long time use there was/is a great chance of the foam deteriorating and getting in the tube and air in the tube. Making it so you're inhaling the foam.....Not a good idea. From what I have read recently, the DreamStation 1 has been withdrawn from sale by the manufacturer. It used styrofoam to help muffle sound. Over time, the styrofoam began to deteriorate and flakes of it got into the breathing tube and possibly into your lungs. I don’t own one, but you may want to check out knowledgeable commentary on TH-cam.

    I finally received my replacement CPAP machine from Philips. They sent me what I believe is the DS1. The model number is: UDSX500S11
    Previous to this machine I had the Philips Responics with the foam/sponge like filter. Correct me if I am wrong but the filter was the reason for the recall, yes?
    Anyway, since it took so long for the recall item to arrive I bought the Airsense 11 from my local DME. This machine is fantastic and obviously does not have the foam/sponge filter.
    With the model number above did I actually receive the DS1 and is everybody else here receiving the same machine as part of the recall?

    I believe you misspoke. You said it comes with the easy on turned on. There is a feature named “EZ start” but it is not automatically turned on, and that is a feature meant for people new to CPAP where it slowly ramps up your prescribed pressure a little each night until it gets to the full pressure. As far as I can tell, the DS2 does not have a feature where it automatically turns on when you put your mask on. I’ve searched every menu in both the patient and provider options and have yet to find that feature, and mine certainly doesn’t have it automatically on.
    It’s listed in the manual, saying “If your home care provider has enabled the Automatic On feature, the
    device will automatically turn the airflow on when you put on your mask and breathe.” However, I can find nothing to back this up or setting to change to allow this.
    I would actually LOVE to be proven wrong because I miss this feature and had my DS replaced by the recall with this DS2. And I have to say, like most of you, I’m not a fan so far.

    • @RespShop
      @RespShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your feedback. I had a chance to re-watch our video and you are correct at 9:10 she does reference the EZ start as an auto on and off. To clarify the EZ start is a comfort feature which does reduce the start therapy by half on the 1st night on fixed therapy and by 1cmH20 on max on auto. The Auto start is an automatic feature built in for the DS2. It can take up to 3-4 breathes for most to activate the auto start, so there will be no feature found on your machine.

    Why did they design it so you can easily break it? I see a big problem. The older dreamstation were the little latch that keeps the lid closed the spring wears out. Eventually air will escape from the humidifier because the lid is not secured, and the spring is integrated to the whole entire casing so in order to repair the locking latch you will have to replace the entire humidifier. Planned obsolescence in effect.

That stupid foam ended up putting me in the hospital with a throat infection where I was in the ER getting minor throat surgery as the infection from that foam caused a reaction and was making my throat swell shut. All during early Covid in March of 2020. Took two months to recover. The water reservoir and how you open it is such a terrible design that it's very obvious Philips didn't complete the design with proper test and quality control or care that they released a much lesser quality machine. It's also sad that all the health 'care' providers that review this machine only sing its praises. All pretend there's nothing wrong with this machine and instead lie to us about how it's better. This is not heath 'care'... it's greed and deception, and it's unethical. It would be better if we didn't need a prescription for this and could freely purchase it on an open market; that way there would be more options, higher quality, cheaper prices. People have lost a LOT of trust in health 'care' because of the systemic dishonesty.
