All Evos, from I to X were made for customers. Mitsubishi made 2500 Evo I models for customers, because it was the minimum for homolgation purpuses. But they sold out after just three days, and Mitsubishi made 2500 more. Evo II had 5000 units for customers and the Evo III too. Evo IV had 6000 units. After that, they were sold in larger amounts.
But it's proven by professional drivers that driving in drift style is slower than try to not drift at any car race. When you drift you loose grip, so it is slower, so you time. It looks drifting in corners makes you faster turns and cornering speed, but actually it's not, it slows you down a bit.
@Ghost Assassin: Fake news. EVO is not dead and alive n well just not not made any new models. n that crossover is a concept that not and evo its E-EVO n only a concept. n MITSU not in coohoots with Renault-Nissan. Stick to ur SUBBIE douche bag!
The Evo really had to be driven hard to get the best from it!!! Even Tommy makinen said it himself!!! It's not a nice car to drive he said, you really have to grab it by the scruff of the neck and give a 110 per cent to get the best from it!!! He hated driving it normally! But drive it like it's stolen and it will blow your mind.
Same can be said for the road car too. I have an X and driving easy you hate it.. slow laggy dull will have you wondering what the big fuss is about, keep it in boost and get on it and it'll turn into a completely different car... Speed limits are its worst enemy.
Great compilation! Is it just me or is modern rally cars really boring these days? Perhaps lack of homologation is the issue? No road going version of the cars to excite enthusiasts.
***** I sure hope there are more people thinking like you. I like rally and I don't want to see it die. However, my comment did not mention the drivers. I'm sure the modern day drivers are just as good if not better. I'd consider eg. Sebastien Loeb one of these contemporary drivers. Look at him, wow! My view of the cars doesn't change though. It would be great if you could aspire to owning or seeing a turbo charged 4wd drive version of say a Ford Fiesta or a VW Polo.
I remember before when there was a rally race people get expected, buy magazines to see some pictures of the event.. it was a very popular sport back than!
Man that bit from about 7:50 to 8:40 is a heck of a great vantage spot! The car is in sight for ages. Briliant sequence of corners. Wonder where that is
I appreciate for sharing us these awesome footage. It's my favforite to see running Evo's in Rally scence. I'm real Japanese man who own Evo VII in Japan.
This is why we loved mitsubishi. Loved. Shuichi Shigeno probably saw the rally videos of the evo and was inspired to create the Emperor team. Observe true speed an skill: It would take a true monster to keep up with one of these, even on a steep downhill grade in a 240 hp corolla.
Seeing this and knowing what Mitsubishi has become today is honestly saddening. They created so many great cars in their long history and now all they produce are small family cars and SUVs.
I come back to this video a few times a year. I own an evo 2. IMO this was the golden age of wrc. You had homologation cars that you could purchase. These cars were getting to levels of group b cars and running faster times during this golden era. These cars had no real aero and the drivers threw them around stages in a poetic way. Fans got to get up close and personal with the sound, the recklessness, and saw the drivers emotion as they flew by Modern rally is shit. Aero, tiny toy cars, hybrid tech, fans have to be far away. It just lost all of its traits that made it what it was. Call me a boomer, but I hate it. Safety and “advancement” has ruined everything in society. Mid 90s was peak civilization.
If you've driven one, you might know that Lancer Evos up to the 3rd generation were front-heavy AWD, lightweight but hard to bend because of the lack of AYC. As proof of this, you see the car swinging and sliding to clear the corner before the hairpin corner, right? But this is not a technique that can be done consistently, so I think it's a state where the car setting and the driver's technique mesh perfectly. Incidentally, the Lancer Evolution, which has everything everyone is familiar with (turning, stopping, and running), is the 4th generation or later.
La ultima toma larga al final y esa ultima curva de costado!!.. tremendo video, la cantidad de camaras, el audio, solamente me hubiesen gustado algunas tomas abordo, igualmente excelente sin eso el video, buena compilación, voy por mas, gracias
F1 drivers go up to the point at which they can skid but never beyond it. Rally drivers go into the skid and keep skating from one corner to another. They are more skilled. How much skill does it take for an F1 driver to drive in precession for an hour and a half. ??
Different skill sets, roughly comparable. F1 drivers have very sharp turns and very high speeds, rally drivers have a lot more turns to contend with and rougher surfaces, but they're not going as fast as often.
One reason I love rally racing: the spectators are as fearless as the drivers
yeah nah more like ignorant and suicidal. getting behind the wheel of a thing like that takes more balls

Evos always had this distinctive 4 cylinder sound that I just love, and I'm no 4 cylinder lover
Like the Subaru boxer they're very distinctive. Some people say they don't sound good, I think those people are high
@@RallyLancer95 Sounds a bit flat compared to NA intake sounds, but so is basically any turbo engine so...
The raw low pitch sound of the Lancer (and Impreza) sounds really good, a powerful sound.
Its called 4g63 engine

That's because of log manifold, tubular commonly will make them sound farty

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, one the Best Rallyecars ever
True rival for subaru
The best engine sound of mitsubishi gsr 4g63t . I am real fan of evo's . My most favourite evo is the evo 3
Why because it is happy?
Those early lancers sounded really good! :O
it's sad that evos aren't as popular as before.... Mitsubishi must remember this and say, let's make more evos!
