@@m.b.82 It's due to rallycross classes, it's why there's so many 2.4 liter ones too, there's 4 classes for engine size, up to 1.6 liter, up to 2.0 liter, up to 2.4 liter, and over 2.4 liter. As for the engines, they're called Volvo EVO engines, you can find info on them if you google them.
I dig seeing these more grassroots type of hillclimbs. They add a nice contrast to the bigger events covered on this channel. HCM is really becoming a premier, quintessential automotive channel.

@@AccAkut1987 A genuine car still in 1992 european rallycross spec. Not so much Reliant glassfiber on it as it got a whole bodykit done in carbon kevlar back in the 80s. It isn't a numbered car, as Ford dismantled some of the cars they made for parts and packages, and Jan Arthur Iversen went to Ford and just picked up the best of the best from them. The gearbox is Xtrac as all the top rallycross RS200s used that over the original.
Obviously seen it before on your channel, but I think that fiesta might be my favourite build I've seen in years. It is literally a hillclimb monster! The driver is amazing too. Fantastic footage as always mate

@@davedree This video is an amalgation of 6 different runs. The locking up happened on an early run. Also you must keep in mind the car is identical to how it was in 1992, so 50/50 split and the handbrake stops the whole drivetrain. He doesn't shortshift, the car has short ratios for rallycross. He actually revs up to 8000 before shifting. And most importantly, this is his first season racing his RS200 wich he has owned and kept in shape the last 19 years.

@@StephenDeTomasithat was prolly done to load up the front and not have it understeer, so I think it was set up properly. I think the car hitting the inside edge of the road as it was coming down made it unpredictable and led to the driver over-correcting.
Scandinavian tuners are just the masters of engine building. So many incredible unconventional high power builds, like that 1.0 litre Corolla in that other recent video. Thanks again for the coverage, i hadn't been aware that Scandinavia also had hillclimb events, i only knew about drifting and Gatebil style evenzs being big up there in the north.
Been popular in rally and rallycross for ages. Everyone knows them, good power potential and parts are easy to get. A lot of people start with Volvos and then swap the drivetrains into other chassis later on. Volvo S40s and such that are FWD from factory often end up with B230 engines and Volvo 240 suspension and rear axle.
Having owned a few, I'm a big fan of turbo Volvo red and silver blocks - but i was actually surprised the Merc had a Merc engine in it! I'd love to know how to get a thousand horsies out of a B5, cos last time i checked (admittedly a few years ago), about 750 was the practical limit. Also, quite a few of those cars look to be rally cross spec - am I right, or am I imagining it? Good to watch though, inside front and rear tyres waaaay off the tarmac.

The leary Camaro was a lark to watch but that final Fiesta was disgustingly quick. And in second place if it's even possible in Norway.........Daylight!
@@congerthomas1812a lot of the cars with quicker times had considerably lower horsepower than the Camaro. Don’t get me wrong, it was hugely entertaining, but not nearly as fast as cars with a 1/3 of the bhp….

That civic just didn't seem setup right, the rear was basically I'm the air half the time, not surprised it understeered
