Well I mean he ties the entire thing completely wrong. This has to be done under tension and you wrap the leader around the mainline, not the other way around. This guy's an idiot, every video i've watched he ties wrong and people are out there copying him.🤦
I tied this knot, it ended up pretty nice and compact, trimmed the tags but still getting snagged on the tip eyelet, just gonna throw straight braid and hope for the best
These videos are great cos they're captued so clear but lack a bit of commentary or caption pointing out certain key points to make a knot work. It should always be mentioned that the FG is a friction knot so do not wet it when you pull both brain and leader ends tight. You want the knot to heat up and set into the mono, a change in braid colour indicates this is done right
I was using that knot up until a bought a Millerods Grub Freak and Vibe Freak. The top eyes are super narrow on the rods and the maker even recommends FG knots. I did try to keep using the normal knot as before because the FG seemed a bit daunting to learn at first, and even had the alberto knot break on a cast. 20 lb braid to 12 lb leader is an everyday set up and not even close to what most would consider light line. It honestly isn’t hard to tie, just take your time, and practice.
I like the quad half hitches to finish the knot off so it goes through the guides like butter AND the braid is pulling in the end of the Fluor not to the side.
I watched the Salt Strong guy tie this and he had a good technique yet I don't get how he does it like that, when I tie it I always put the mono in my mouth.

I have used this method and it works. It is really not hard. Once you get the hang of it I have tied this on a boat rocking in the ocean. It’s not hard to do once you practice it. I don’t do as many knots on the end. I don’t think you really need it.
i do admire your fingers skill great to watch beautifully done. you might have to let people know this method of tying FG knots is not acheivable with light and supple leaders, there are more ways to skin a cat.

Noo, the answer is you cannot tighten mono onto braid like this. The knot works on the principle of the thinner braid "biting" into the leader material (mono or fluoro).

The fg knot is strong and its better then the uni knot because you are not bending and weakening your leader, i have always used the fg and not had a problem pulling in metre plus fish
rissuto is not finished properly. should be unwound and the tag goes inside of the knot and comes out facing your leader. also, i don't like to see the knot moving apart that much wnen you are cinching it down. it should change shape and color. the knot shouldn't spread out markedly like that.
@@saratoga1956 as per my other reply, FG 100% of the time with spin gear. The “fiddly” method doesn’t require much workspace so can be tied in a kayak etc
@@saratoga1956 Ps I’m not sure what the fiddly method is called, but it’s the one where you wrap a doubled loop around your small and ring finger, and create a loop with your thumb/index/middle finger (with the braid), then feed the leader with the other hand, alternating which side of the braid loop you wrap around. Tuck the leader spool under your leg, and keep the leader taught. The braid loop needs to be relatively firm, but I’ve noticed that the knot works best on the first, say 6 wraps, if there is not tooooo much tension (a little bit), then after that you can firm it right up (even pull the leader tag if you can manage, before hitching up at the end. You don’t want any slack really, though you might get away with the odd momentary laps in this. On the finishing hitches, I’ve ditched the “locking” method, as this promotes the leader tag to stand a little proud of the finished knot, and this can cause issues. Just 5 or 6 lots of pairs - ie 10-12 hitches. Then trim everything up and start casting! You should be able to find this method on TH-cam. Hope I’ve been of some help. Cheers.
This method will fail very quickly. One half hitch and then pull on each end as hard as you can three to four times to imbed the braided line into your mono or fluorocarbon line. This is pretty but not good. The wraps are on-top of the mono, not imbedded. Sorry!!!
Yea, except the problem is you're using 2 ends of braid to do it. How's that supposed to work with one line going to the reel? Or the other problem is why are you using braid as a leader....
I'll stick with the traditional method. It works and is a strong know. This method and knot doesn't work. I know about the fg knot for I've tied it probably close to 50,000 times for myself, my son and family members and anyone who wanted to use it or learn how to tie it.
yea and when do hook the fish of a lifetime you don't have to think about This knot letting go. i can tie in less 2 minutes. and personally, I find it very relaxing to tie knots, i take pride in my knots, my friends have me tie this knot for them. 10 foot leader lasts whole season

Knot! a good way to tie this knot, as tying this way leaves the wraps on the leader too loose, so it will not tighten up like it should.

Well, that would be a challenge on a rocking sport boat with 20 knot winds and by the time it's done, the bite has Lett. However, a great knot video.
easy when the line is heavy duty try it using 12 lb leader and 20 lb braid.
20 lb braid to 12 lb leader is an everyday set up and not even close to what most would consider light line.
It honestly isn’t hard to tie, just take your time, and practice.

nope. FG is way stronger, thinner and better for micro guides expecially. 10lb is easy as to tie.
The FG is a better knot even in the small diameters.

FG has never broke on me,
The FG is almost bullet proof if you tie it correctly and inspect it frequently as you should with ANY knot.
The last thing I would do is put a flame that close to my line! Hell no!

Exactly right. Almost impossible with this technique. It is a fantastic knot but not to tie with this technique in light line.

Blood knot or double uni knot is too clunky through the guides. The slim beauty is way better in lighter lines.
