I cant get seasick on kayaks, I also don’t get sick on big giant ships. But those charter boats, like the ones they use for whale watching? I have a hard time holding down my breakfast every time
Excellent tutorial! I've been using this knot for a while now and have found it to be strong and durable also. I think it takes a little longer to tie than an FG, but the actual knot is easier than the FG for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Alijos is a great reel. I have been using them for the past 6 months for all sort of fishing from inshore to offshore deep water. Just came back from Alaska and caught a few king salmon to 30#. I now have 3. Great deal for nice reels.
I use 30# braid main to either 20# or 15# mono leader. I use the Alberto knot. It is quick and easy to tie, and has never failed. Even when catching a rock, and I have to break off, the leader breaks and has never broken at the knot.
Watched probably 5 different FG knot tutorials before watching this SC knot video. You did a great job explaining it and showing us how to do it I'm going to just skip the FG and give this a try. I've been using Alberto knot and wanted to try and find leader knot slightly thinner
I'm going to try this for sure. I saw one video that said the FG knot was only for times when the leader was higher test than the braid. Some of the comments disagreed, but I have had 8 lb mono slide out of the FG knot with 20 lb braid. It could be that I'm not good at tying the FG, but either way, I need something different.
I will have to give it a try, but I’ll never give up my own take on the Alberto and Albright knot. I call it the Hybrid Alberto. It works with even or uneven line sizes from 4# mono to 20# braid or 20# mono to 85# braid. I haven’t broken the knot since I’ve found the correct steps and technique. It’s probably different than how anyone else does it and I don’t have to put nearly the amount of pressure that some knots require. It’s just a quick sturdy jerk and it’s done and I finish it so the knot has a tiny taper to go through the line guide and rod eyes. It also only takes me about a minute to retie another leader on. This one seems quicker, but looks like you have to make sure to “set” the knot correctly with a lot of pressure. It’s hard to change from what works for you. Thanks for sharing this.
I also use a version of the Alberto, but I'm looking for an alternative as I would like to use thinner braid but keep the same leader diameter. Do you care to share your version? Thank you
It's an interesting knot and a good demo. Reminds me a little of the Bimini Twist. I'll keep using the FG knot befause it took a long time to learn and I'm already good at it. (Thanks Brigsy for that.) That said I'll definitely learn the SC knot just because you can't ever know too many knots.
I also learned the FG from that @brigssy tuto video and never went back since, but like you, I will surely give e the sc a try, the moomoo for sharing.
nice looking knot. looks super strong. might be tough to wrap a loop around your mono in heavy wind but probably not a lot worst than a single tag end. wet it for the cinch.
Nice knot indeed, but would you agree that we are applying a bit more pressure on the leader and therefore its gonna be weaker than the traditional FG?
Nice Moo. Check out the Tony Pena! Pretty simple and really strong. Slim profile knot that goes through the guides well. This knot reminds me of the Bimini twist the way the turns overlap on themselves and that's a really strong knot too.
I have tried Tony Pena before. No doubt it's a strong knot but I didn't really like the thickness of the mono end of the knot. I should do a strength test using different knots.
Not easy to tie in the wind but super strong and smooth running I'll use it for pre rigging... but on the water the double uni can be less painful in the wind!...rains a whole different ball game with braid!
When I'm on the water I use RP knot because it's very easy. On land I've used FG and now I use SC because I believe it's stronger than RP and smaller in diameter.
I guess I’m just old school, but I still prefer an Albright knot to all others. 10-15 wraps makes for a tight, compact, and very strong knot. A couple drops of super glue makes it virtually impossible to slip. Great for braided to any leader, even braid to braid! But the SC is certainly a strong knot! Just not as easy to tie as an Albright, for me at least.
Albright used to be my go to until it slipped when I had a big sturgeon. I still use albright/alberto knot when I'm on the water. I never tried superglue on it though.
EXCELLENT Video. Next time I have to join braid to mono for deep drop banking I will definitely use this knot. However, have you strength tested this knot against the FG Knot for same braid/mono connection? What were the actual results?
Hey! Want to tie 30 pound braid to 15 pound fluro! Try that! Nit fishing for Wales! Just 2 to 15 pound fish! Nearly impossible to do the technique with a smaller leader wire... jot do it
Why do you not lubricate the knot with spit when you cinch it down? Thats a MUST for me. It tightens it so much better dude!😎. This is basically a reverse Bimini Twist knot. With Bimini you start your wraps with the leader not the braid.
Though this knot is still thicker than an FG. Alberto and Crazy Alberto is as thick as this SC. When it doubt, the double-Uni will win tournaments as well
Yo moo! I’m gonna launch out of the grocery outlet this Saturday 🤫5:20 ish will be on channel 69 if you want to meet me out there I’ll be in a slate compass
@@MooMooOutdoors I know that in South Africa the guys use an FG knot to join braid to braid leader with a lot of success landing big fish of over 150kg from the surf (Rock and Shore). The SC knot is the same principle, hence the reason for me asking the question.

the fail rate of SC is higher, it will break on itself if u tie it badly, fail point is mostly pulling not tight enough u tighten every or every few loops for FG vs 30+ loops at once for SC, that's why FG won't fail 99.9% of the times
I tried this right in front of my computer while watching, and after tying the four braid half hitches I had significant slippage with my fluoro leader. I tied a half hitch with the flouro tag on the loop side and the slippage was eliminated. Comments?
That thumbnail is exactly right that fg knot is only 50 percent strength the sc knot believe it or not has 200 percent knot strength. That FG not is a terrible knot. A carrot is another good one so is a GT knot 100 percent knot strength.
Bunch of good knots. I'm just old school and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Double uni-knot has worked for me forever.
Hey Alex that is another good knot the double uni is really good on lite line spinning rod set ups.
Best explanation on you tube of SC knot
Thank you. I really appreciate it.
I'd be seasick as nuts doing that on a kayak. Alberto knot (RP knot) has never let me down. Just caught a nice bluefin on it.
I was thinking the same thing 😂
I tie Alberto when I'm on the water too but I don't like the thickness of it.
I cant get seasick on kayaks, I also don’t get sick on big giant ships. But those charter boats, like the ones they use for whale watching? I have a hard time holding down my breakfast every time
Do you really have to rap it that many times and why 4 half hitchs when even the FC not only uses 2 most times
i do blood knot

FG knot is not hard to tie.

Double uni done. 8 to 20-60 braid 10 to 15 braid my go to spinning reel on the baitcasters it’s 12/40/50/60 20/60

Thuy's FG knot vs MooMoo's SC knot battle?
@@MooMooOutdoors it is on buddy. We will do a colab video on this battle and it will be epic. 😊
Great knot, much easier than the FG
Hey thanks for the tutorial
I've been looking for a simpler knot than the FG. You made it a easy to understand. I got a new go to.
great
Thanks Mo for sharing this great video! It's simple but very good explained and perfect filmed! Greetings from the Netherlands, Pat. 👊🏼👍🏼🇳🇱🎣

When the knot breaks in 4 or 6 lb braid its the braid that breaks i tie bimmini loop in braid for strength then tie double uni knot with leader try it

Great info my friend 👍
Thanks 👍
Why not cut off the leader after 2 half hitches and use the last 2 -3 half hitches to cover up leader end so it will reel through your eyes smoothly?
great idea
I tried that but the half hitch started to unravel if it is on the leader.
ZZZzzz… get back in the yak Moo… 🤣. Thanks 4 posting regardless 👍.

I think so. Albright/alberto was my go to before I started using FG. This is a great alternative to FG for those who have a difficult time with FG.
How long should your leader be when tieing to braided line
That would be your personally preference and your specific applications. I tie about 10 feet of topshot for my applications.

Wow 😮 what on earth?? SC ..... Super Cranked lol 😆
😂🤣
I thought you wrapped the mono around the braid?
That's Yucatan knot. Braided wraps the mono on this one. Thanks for watching.

Yes. As good as FG
Do you have to wet the lines before u cinch down? Or it doesn't matter?

Sir can I do 41 lb braid to 50 lb leader this knot
Yes. Just like FG, this knot works the best when the mono/fluoro leader is heavier than the braided.
Probably but more curious where you got forty one lb braid 🤣
This works great on heavy line, but not at all on light line. 15lb or less.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
