  • In this video I show you how to dial in a simple-but-modern metal tone on the Boss GT-1 using the Rectifier model, the Tube Screamer model, and the noise gate.

    I just got this pedal a week ago and I’m really impressed with it but I know there’s ways (like you’ve shown in this vid) to build better (custom) patches…would really like to see more content on this pedal.
    Thanks so much for this post.

      @heyjarrod 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice! Does it sound much different with the tube screamer? And does this unit handle other pedals pretty well? Although, I’m hoping to have everything I need all in one.
      Still thinking of just staying old-school, building a nice little pedalboard. But this seems a lot cleaner, quieter, and I like the presets. 🤘🏻🎸

    • @rodrigo147able
      @rodrigo147able 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@heyjarrod Yes. The Boss gt1 is not so good If you likes a heavy distortion.. But, with a real tube screamer the distortion sounds better, more "analogic".

    • @heyjarrod
      @heyjarrod 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rodrigo147able Oh, that’s one of the main reasons I’m looking to get this unit, or just another pedal maybe.
      I’ve had the old BOSS DS-1 forever, but now I’m getting more into modern metal, even maybe black metal. I like that chug.
      So I thought the cheapest way might just be to buy a new Boss pedal, the metal zone.
      Var got a nice metal sound with his GT-1. Sounded similar to some of these newer plug-ins, like STL, or Fortin. Thought about going more digital, software. But I’d like to have everything in front of me, not having to tap on a computer screen or iPad.
      But there’s got to be a way to make it chug, without using a tube screamer or boss pedal? 🙊
      Still seems like the best for its price. A couple of new pedals, and a pedalboard, cables, power, all that’s gonna cost more than 200 bucks.
      Are you pretty happy with yours otherwise, and do you find most people having to use some kind of overdrive to get a more modern metal sound?
      Thank you!!!
      🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸🇺🇸

      @@heyjarrod There is a guy named Fabinho Lyma, he works for BOSS and has a youtube channel. In his distortion presets, he uses an overdrive pedal too (BOSS OD-1).
      Here is his instagram: instagram.com/fabinholyma/
      I think that for playing modern/death metal with a BOSS GT-1, you will need to use a tube screamer/overdrive pedal too. The sound in a youtube video is very different of the sound in a real situation, like a concert or a rehearsal.
      I use BOSS GT1 to play Bullet for my Valentine with my band, and with a tube screamer pedal the distortion sounds amazing!

    • @var_guitar
      @var_guitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I promise didn’t do any additional processing to the sound. You don’t need a daw or interface. A couple thoughts: if you’re plugged Into a powercab, make sure you’re on “line out/direct” in the global settings; make sure your powercab doesn’t have any cab emulation active… that way you’ll hear the cab emulation from the GT-1 and not from anything else. Good luck

      My best advice, if your aim is sound like a specific artist, is to try and find information about what gear they used during the era you're trying to emulate, and then set up the GT-1 accordingly. Here's an article I found about Linkin Park's early gear. www.guitarchalk.com/brad-delson-amp-settings/

    • @var_guitar
      @var_guitar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it depends on what you're trying to achieve. The different amp models vary quite a lot in quality and often the default speaker model for a given amp doesn't sound right. I really enjoy the GT-1 as a Swiss army knife tool that does a lot of things really well and it's great as a starting off point for getting into different effects and amp styles. I'd say I'm like 80% satisfied with the distortions. Run an OD model into a gainy amp model, tweak the speaker to taste, and you'll get a really good tone.
