  • Hi people!
Here's a follow-up from the GT-100 Manual Mode video I made yesterday! People wanted to see Manual Mode done on the GT-1, so I thought I would do that :-)
You can easily set up the GT-1 to be used in Manual Mode.
As always, comment, like, subscribe, request - I'll appreciate it!
    Cheers! :-)

Picked one of these up yesterday and got to play with it for a couple hours, wasnt expecting much for $200 but its actually a pretty solid little unit and very well built, havent had time to get too deep into it but straight out the box it has a ton of cool effects and doesnt seem too hard to figure out and is definately well worth the price...

      Hey there, fender strat.
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it.
I fully agree - the GT-1 is a beast, and the possibilities are endless!
I've had mine since it came out, and I've used it live for every gig with my band, running straight to the PA/Mixer and that sounds killer! The onboard effects and preamp/cabinet sims are superb, and require minimal tweaking.
The Factory Presets could've been better, but with all units like this, the Factory Presets are there to show how extreme the unit can get... I've discarded all the Factory Presets and made my very own, and that's where the gold is, trust me! I would highly recommend that! Also, it's important to get the unit set-up properly, so it matches the equipment you're using it with.
A great buy, that's for sure!
Let me know if you need any help, or have issues, I'd be happy to assist.
      Cheers.

I would just wish they updated the cab Sims, I hear them muffled...or let you upload your preference...and also a press and hold cntrl1 for tap tempo if you have a delay like in digitech rp360 for example...man, again, thanks for the video!

Yeah, uploading your own would be great, for sure!
You can set-up a delay tap tempo on the GT-1, if that's what you're looking for?

This is just what I've been wondering about, thank you! Question: is the stomp box manual mode only applied to that one particular preset or is it globally applied to all? Hey man thanks man this video is great it helped me overcome my doubts about the gt-1 I just have a little is it possible like example let's say I have a delay on the on up switch and an od/ds on the down switch could I for example turn the delay and then turn the ov/ds or would it deactivate one if I press the other?

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for you
If you set the UP-footswitch to Delay and the DOWN-footswitch to OD/DS, then you can activate both effects, without deactivating the other :-) If you press the UP-switch then the delay comes on, and the same for the DOWN-switch, so if you press again, you'll turn them off :-)
I hope this helps, if not, then let me know!

Is it possible to assign "multiple fx" to the down button and up button?
    I'd need for example:
Down button: clean channel (with one preamp, some reverb and delay)
Up button: distortion rhythm (with another preamp, some reverb and delay, and noise gate)
CTL1: distortion LEAD (with preamp, boost, some reverb and delay, and noise gate)

      Hey there, Stefano!
Thanks for your comment and question - I appreciate it! 😊
Also, thank you for the kind words - they are much appreciated as well!
Sadly, no... You can't assign multiple effects to the UP and DOWN buttons...
However, if you buy an extra footswitch - like the Boss FS-6 or FS-7, then you'll have the onboard CTL1 and the extra CTL2 and CTL3 - and then you will be able to do what you ask.
Let me know if that makes sense 😊

Just to make things easier for me.
Indeed it should, be a standard feature, and sadly the Owner's Manual doesn't cover this..

I believe this is possible due to looking at this video, having experience of owning and using the GT-5, VG-88 and GP-10. I do not yet have a GT-1 (so will need the idea tested) but this vid is helping me decide to purchase one. It does remind me of my GT-5 in button layout.

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

@churchguitarist - you can only have a total of 5 footswitches. You have the UP, DOWN and CTL-1, onboard the unit itself. Then, if you add either the FS-6 or FS-7, you'll get two extra, that's it. However, you can use the Vol/Exp pedal as well, but that would require a little more setting up.
The GT-1 only offers one input for an extra footswitch, so a total of 5 footswitches it is.
      Cheers.

    • @churchguitarist

@@GuitarNTabs What I would like you to confirm is: if the foot pedal switch can be included as the 6th switch as I believe it can be used to switch things. Also, if pressing the two pedals for the Tuner can be configured to decrease the patch and if pressing the two pedals for the Looper can be configured to increase the patch.

    • @churchguitarist
      @churchguitarist 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@GuitarNTabs If the above is confirmed, then you would have 6 switchs with up/down patch changing.

@@churchguitarist - Yes, the onboard EXP/VOL pedal and its EXP SW can be used for assigns as well. That would mean you have the UP, DOWN, CTL1, the two extra external footswitches and the EXP/VOL. Yes, that would give you a total of six :-)

Hi mate, your vids are the best resource for gt-1 users. Boss should be paying you! I have a question about the alternative manual mode. Can you have more than a few FX effect set up e.g say I wanted chorus, phaser and comp. Can you do that in manual mode? Also, I see in assigns fx1, fx2 and also things like fx1 chorus, fx1 flanger etc. What's the difference with these? Thanks in advance

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there!
Thanks for your comment and questions, I greatly appreciate them.
I'm glad you found my videos helpful.
Sure, you can have several effects set up, while in Alternative Manual Mode.
As you may know the UP and DOWN footswitches can be set to On/Off only 1 effect - for example, UP could turn On/Off the Compressor while DOWN could turn On/Off the OD.
The CTL1 will allow you to activate more than 1 effect, by using the Assigns, which you have a total of 6 of, per patch. So you could set CTL1 to activate the chorus on FX2 and the Phaser on FX1. Keep in mind that you may need to swap the placement of the FX1, if you want to use it for the Phaser, since FX1 is by default placed at the beginning of the signal chain.
Also, if FX1 is already set to Compressor, you'll need an Assign to change from the Comp to the Phaser, and if that's the case, then it would probably be a good idea to have that switch on the CTL1, since you need it to control more effects and parameters. I hope that makes sense. Lastly, if you add a Boss FS-7, you'll be able to control and add further effects and assigns, which I would highly recommend for a setup like this.
If you Assign the FX1 or FX2 parameter only, then it will control the given effect that's chosen in the effect block. The FX1 Chorus, Flanger, etc. is for when you want to control a specific parameter within that effect category, for example if you want to change the rate of the chorus, etc.
I hope all this makes sense. If not, then please do let me know.
      Best regards.

Hey man. Can you help me decide between keeping my boss me 25 or upgrading to the gt1? And what are your thoughts about whether to get the zoom g5n or the boss gt1 as they are almost the same price?

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there, Overture!
Thanks for your comment and questions, I appreciate it!
The ME-25 is a very fine piece of equipment, but perhaps a bit out-dated and not on par with the newest effect processors...
The GT-1 is superb, and the effects and preamp models are amazing! I've had the GT-1 since it first came out and it has never failed me. I use it direct to the PA/Mixer or Studio Monitors/Headphones and that is great - with the onbaord Preamp models and effects.
I can't recommend much Zoom equipment... to be honest.. What's great about the GT-1 is that you have dedicated Assigns - a total of 6 per patch - that you can assign any effect and parameter to. I use that on every patch I create. It will allow you, for example, to go from one preamp model to another, or switch on a chorus, delay and reverb. And many many more options.
Most of the Zoom stuff can't go as deep and complex as that. Don't get me wrong, while it's deep and complex, it doesn't mean that it's hard to navigate through - it's quite easy.
If you really want to upgrade, the stick to the GT-1 - you won't be disappointed.

      Hi, Subilon.
Thanks for your comment, kind words and question - it's greatly appreciated.
In terms of size, the ME-80 will take up quite a lot of space, compared to the GT-1. For example, if you want to add external pedals.
I can see both units in your mentioned environment, no problem, but if you already have the GT-1, then give that a go, and see what you think. Programming your patches, and the accessibility, would be just fine with the GT-1.

For my Metal tone I have mine set as followed:
    PreAmp: JC-120
    Reverb: Plate
(This is my Dry Clean tone so PreAmp and Reverb are turned on at all times).
    Down: FX1 - Harmonist
Up: OD/DS - Metal Zone (my Dirty tone)
CTL1: PreAmp Boost (so I can boost both Clean and Dirty when I want)
EXP1: turns Chorus and Delay on and off (basically this is my Dry/Wet tone control)
EXP1 SW: Tuner (I set the EXP SW pressure pretty high so I wont turn on the tuner by accident).
    NOTES:
I turned off the Tuner and Looper options with the double press in case I double click some buttons accidentally.
With this setup I can't move patches up and down with the Up and Down buttons so I have to use the knob for that (which is not a big deal).
I have similar Manual Mode patches for RHCP and other types.
PS: Your videos are very informative and easy to understand and follow. To be honest I figured most of this out by myself toying with my Boss GT-1, but I still went on to watch your GT-1 playlist in case I missed something.
    Good job.

      Hi there.
Seems like a nice way to have it all set up!
When you say you have EXP1 to turn on chorus and delay, I assume you have its function set to PDL FX only, and not volume also?
I'm glad you found my videos helpful, that means a lot to me.
Let me know if you need anything.

    • @rayana4250

@@GuitarNTabs Yes, the EXP1 is set to PDL FX only, so the heel position is a dry sound and the toe position turns the chorus and delay on (wet sound).
And once again, I really enjoy your demo series on the Boss GT-1 and I've watched most of them.
      Good job!
BTW! I found out that instead of using the PreAmp Solo as a boost there is another way.
You can set the CTL1 to Master, select volume, and then you have 2 volume options the default and the CTL1 turned on. So you set the default to whatever volume you like and then set the "on" volume as louder as you want it to be and that way you can clean boost your signal without affecting the tone at all.

My questions is. I assigned the up and down button to turn on/off a certain effects on bank 1. But when i change to bank 2, 3 and so, the up and down button function the same as from bank 1. Is this something global?

I used Natural Clean which is user preset 3 on my GT1, and edited it, reassigning the up and down pedals to effects, OD one one and Delay on the other, I assigned chorus to CTL1. Everything was working as it should as on/off effects. I pulled the guitar cable out of the input to shut GT-1 off and then plugged the cable back in to turn it back on. Nothing had been saved. What am I missing?

      Hi Kelly.
Thanks for your comment and question.
Each time you make an adjustment, you need to save it. You save adjustments by pressing both the Enter and Exit buttons, at the same time, and then select the WRITE. That's very important, otherwise you'll loose the settings.
      I hope this helps.
      Cheers.

Its easy to get overwhelmed by the GT-1 and the manual is not that good so your videos should be required for any new owner. I've had mine for 6 months and still learning how to use it (but I've also been learning to play guitar too so that slows me down). It's all fun and thanks a lot.

I believe there is a way to have 4 controls and still control patch selection. And if you have an FS-6 you can get 6 controls(foot switchs) and still have up and down patch control.

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@churchguitarist - You have the 3 onboard footswitches; UP, DOWN and CTL1. Then, if you add either an FS-6 or FS-6, you'll have two extra footswitches = a total of 5. However, you can use the Vol/Exp pedal, for assigns as well, but that would require a little more complex routing :-)
The GT-1 only offers a single extra input for CTL pedals, so there can only be a total of 5 footswitches.
      Cheers.

Can you add wah to the pedal, or do you need to designate wah to one of the 3 buttons (assuming we don't have the extra foot switch? My dilemma is that I have songs that have a few different effects, for example it starts with Delay/Chorus, OD, then i need Distortion and wah, then go back to Delay/Chorus w/out OD. In the next song I need slight distortion and deep delay, which later becomes more intense wah, etc.

      Hey there!
      Thanks for your question :-)
Well, from what you're explaning here, I would simply use the GT-1 in the standard Preset/Patch Mode.. Making use of the available assigns.. That way it would be so much easier to set things up the way you want them, and need them. Doing it that way, from what you need, in Stompbox Mode, even without the extra footswitch, would be almost impossible.. or atleast very difficult.. Sorry to say it..
I would use the GT-1 in Preset/Patch Mode for what you're looking for - it would be way easier that way :-)
      I hope that makes sense?
If you have further questions, or something else, then please let me know! I'll be happy to help you out further, that's for sure :-)

Hi. I did play with one in a music store for an hour and the guy couldn't get it to do what I was asking. So what you're saying is use the presets (or even tailor them), set them up in order of use? Can you change numbering/ordering of presets? The music store guy couldn't do it. If I like preset 32 (chorus/distortion/wah) and 33 is my clean/phaser/compression, and 34 is OD and tremolo and I need to go back to 32, do I have to click through 33? I just don't get it. OR could I get an additional foot switch, and make a patch for CT1 (chorus/distortion) CT2 Clean/phaser/comp) CT3 OD,tremolo, CT4 etc and just use them as stomp boxes? I hope this makes sense. I'm trying to get rid of the messy stomp box pedalboard I now have with the HISS and hum, etc.

      Hi again :-)
Man, it's so sad that shops and sellers don't even know how to sell or showcase the unit.. It just makes me sad.. What you are looking for is indeed possible :-) It's just a matter of setting it all up, like you say.
Yes, you can easily change the position of patches, and have them in a certain order. I do that all the time, especially if I play live.
You will have to use the UP and DOWN footswitches to scroll through the patches you want to use. So set up the patches in the order you want it, and then use UP and DOWN to scroll through them.
      For example:
Make sure to save the presets you want to use, in the order you want to use them - as you mentioned - Preset 32, 33 and 34. Then save them in that order and use the UP and DOWN switches to scroll to/through them.
      Hope this helps!
If not, then let me know :-)
      Cheers :-)

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there!
No, the whole idea of the "Manual Mode" is that you change the operation of the UP and DOWN footswitches, so they act as your regular stompbox pedalboard.
However, if you need the onboard tuner, assign the Tuner function to an external footswitch, like the Boss FS-7, etc. and activate it that way.
I have an external tuner on my pedalboard, because I don't find the onboard one to be that accurate...
TC Electronic is the go-to tuner for me.

Hi! GT 1 Stump mode patches...Will it work or be practical for live set to program the Play Mode pressing UP&DOWN together to MEM-1 and pressing DOWN&CTL1 together to MEM+1? (replace by external tuner pedal or clip-on and external looper)
If this is the case, then with an external CTL2 and CTL3 pedal (f.i.FS7) there are 5 programmable on/off switches (3 CTL's distibuted over 6 assigns and use UP and DOWN for 2 effects on/off) and use the onboard expression pedal switch on/off for f.i. Wah OR for the 6th effect on/off switch (that would control 6 stumpbox on/off switches). This way max 99 user patches or stumpbox variation patches would be an option.
I have not tried this at home. Anyone?
Update: just programmed stump patch like this...seems to work for me. Experimental days ahead.

That because the footswitch isn't a latching one, which is what you need. A Momentary footswitch will do this.

      Hi there, Ivor :-)
Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment!
It's the same, I believe I just used those two words to describe the function, hehe.
You able to assign effects and then control them, is what I mean.
Assigning effects and parameters will allow you to turn effects and parameter on/off or perhaps change the value of some of the effects. For example. You can have a compressor, chorus and reverb on, then you assign the chorus to be turned off, an overdrive pedal to be turned on and a delay to be turned on.
The assigns will allow you to 'expand' your sound and patches. If that makes sense?
I have videos on how to assign, so take a look at those, and things might be a little clearer :-)

You're going to love the GT-1! It's great!
For the CTL1, CTL2 and CTL 3 we have a total of 6 available assigns. So if you only want to assign effects to the CTL1 then you have 6 available assigns to choose from! If you have a Boss FS-7 footswitch connected, then you can decide how many of the 6 available assigns you want to use on the 3 different footswitches (CTL1, CTL2 and CTL3) :-)
Really cool, and indeed usable! I use it like that all the time!

I really love my GT-1! It's a fantastic piece of gear and the preamps/effects are just perfect.

I use the GT-1 live and at rehearsals, and it's so simple and easy to work out and set up.
I don't see the simplicity of the ME-80, to be honest.. There would be a lot more menus to dive through...

      Stay tuned!

    • @GuitarNTabs

You would put the Distortion before the GT-1 - like this:
      Guitar --> Distortion --> GT-1 Input --> GT-1 Output --> Amp.
That's the optimal way - an overdrive/distortion should always be placed before an actual preamp.

Make sure you have set the FX1 to Flanger - you do that by pressing the MEMORY-EDIT and finding the FX1 icon, then use the TYPE knob, knob 3, to select the Flanger.
Then head to one of your available assigns, for example, Assign 1 (A1) and press ENTER.
Turn the assign ON, select the SOURCE, in this case CTL2, and set the MODE to TOGGLE. Then press ENTER.
Set the CATEGORY to FX1 and the TARGET to TYPE. Then press ENTER.
Set the MIN to Flanger and the MAX to Phaser.

      Hey there, Jose :-)
Thanks for your comment and question.
No, not really.. The CTL1, CTL2 and CTL3 all have their own menu-icon, when you go into the MEMORY EDIT/SIGNAL CHAIN screen. That basically allows you to have an extra parameter/effect/assign set up for that particular footswitch. Then, if you wish to assign more effects/parameters to those footswitches, then you would have to go to the first available assign (Assign 1 to Assign 6) With those assigns you can select what footswitch they will be active on.
You can indeed set up different effects and parameters for the CTL2 and CTL3 for every patch :-)
      I hope this makes sense.

Thanks for your comment, and for watching!
You would have to start by setting up the function of the CTL1, by finding its menu, by pressing the MEMORY EDIT-button. Just scroll to find it.
Then set-up the function for the CTL1. If you can't find the desired parameter, then leave the CTL1 menu and go straight to the first available assign (A1), and go from there. Search for the WAH option, and make sure to set the category to OFF and ON - if that makes sense? I think you'll get it, when you have the unit in front of you :-)
Once the WAH assign is set up, then head to the next assign (A2) and this time find the OD/DS option and set-up the assign, and that should basically be it.
I hope this helps - if not, then please let me know, and I'll explain it in another way :-)

Well, you need to be a little more specific than that... I would be happy to help you out, but I need more to go on, in order to do so.
Have you had the chance to take a look at my remaining tutorial videos? I'm sure they will be of help, but if not, then let me know, and I'll help you out.
      Thanks & Cheers.

Pitty this is a global setting and not per user patch.

      Hi Mike!
Yeah.. It's kind of a permanent setting, once you've changed the function of the knobs..
Would actually be cool if Boss made it an option to set it up on a patch per patch basis!
      Enjoy and cheers!

      Just discovered it isn't global!
      It is per patch basis.
Like this unit more every day (had it for 3 days).
Great sound as you'd expect from Boss.
      At €189 can't complain.

Oh, I see what you ment, sorry!
Yes, you can apply this per patch, sure! :-)
The GT-1 is great, and I really enjoy mine, that's for sure!
      Great tones indeed!
      Cheers, mate!

      Hey there, Edwin.
I see where you're coming from, but I guess it's all a matter of personal preference.
I think it's great that you can do both methods, using the GT-1.
      Anyway, thanks for your comment!
Let me know if there's something I can do.
      Have a nice day
      Cheers.

      Hey @Greg Keen.
Well, that's your opinion... but what exactly are your opinion based on?
Personal experience with the GT-1 or??
Looking forward to hear from you
      Regards.

@@GuitarNTabs So I'm in the market for a new multieffects unit. I have a Line 6 Floor Pod that I play through currently. It sounds fantastic, but a little dated. I started watching comparisons on TH-cam, and trying out different units live, and in every single case, every other unit sounds better than any Boss machine. That goes for the GT -1, GT-1000, and the ME -80. In every single case the BOSS sounds dead and lifeless with less headroom, presence and tonal quality. That's not say you couldn't add some of that into the sound by tweaking it for hours, but why not start off with something that sounds better to begin with. At the moment I haven't decided if it's going to be the Zoom G5N, G3N, or the Headrush Gigboard. The New Line 6 products sound better too, but I've been there and done that. As far as sound quality, the Gigboard sounds the best out of everything, but that's just my opinion.

      @@gregkeen4907 - See, that's an answer I can use!
If you have only used the Factory Presets, when trying those Boss units out, then I can clearly see why you have that impression.. But please, tell me that isn't the case?
No matter the unit, any Factory Preset would sound dull, and clearly not give a clear representation.. Those Factory Presets are only there to show how extreme the unit can be.. Which doesn't tell a signal usable thing!
The real gold is ALWAYS found in the patches you create from scratch. I've had so many players ask why the GT-1 didn't sound good, when they used it, and 99% of the time, they only used the Factory Presets.
It's also very hard to determine what's good, and what's not, if the play-through is limited and short.. The key here is time and patience, as with all other things.
I've had excellent results with my GT-1, and I can't imagine a better unit. Tweaking is easy, and it really doesn't require much, trust me! I've tried the Zoom units, and I really wouldn't recommend them - but hey, that's just my opinion, just like you have yours 😊
It'll be interesting to see what you choose!
      Best of luck.
      Regards.
