The IR 2 is really diverse for the price point. Adding the IR2 to an analog pedal board and loading your own IRs makes the IR2 super versatile. I love mine. Moreover, being able to plug direct into a mixing board, PA, FRFR, or mixing software (without needing a DAW) is pretty cool. 🤘🏻

Hey the remote footswitch also lets you use the main pedal to turn it on and off and then the footswitch will change channels (instead of the "hold to bypass"). Kind of nice if you need a clean channel (which can just be straight into the PA), a high gain channel for punk rawk chugs, and then a solo channel with a signal boost and maybe a bit more reverb.
@strangelet4588 I'm going to try using it for final recording myself. Aside from the drums, which we tracked at a local studio, I made a pretty good 3 song punk demo with an old Boss GS-10 back in the day for all the guitars, bass and vocals, it sounded pretty good, even back then.

I have the Boss IR-200, which is the somewhat bigger unit with more adjustability. I liked some of the tones on it. A lot of the tones on this remind me of my 200, but with the lack of adjustability due to no digital readout and such. Still, it does an ok job. I still like my IR-200 tho :) You should try it, you might like it. Very Metallica-ish, but I used it for some songs and it sounded pretty good! The bass presets aren't terrible either.
I agree this unit is nice but if you are going to make or break the pedal board it has it place but the IR200 for the little more real estate it takes seems to be the better unit overall especially as it isn't that much more considering. I got mine on sale for $429 CAD which works out to be around 291 Euro
I understand why Ola tried the Precision drive with the Boss IR-2. The Horizon Devices Precision Drive is always on with my distorted tone. I can’t imagine my rig without it.
Been interested in this pedal since it released. But I often wonder if the upside of its familiar stylings vs the digital menu diving feel of the ir-200 is also a downside. Dual function concentric knobs can feel a bit cramped and perhaps a slightly larger form factor would have allowed for more comfortable knob tweaking. I do appreciate the sounds and features however. It feels like a step up from the ir-200 despite not having some of its features and capability. Sounds better imo
You could get by with this ina pinch. Maybe add some pedals for character. If your main rig was down you can still play a show. Of course it's not going to sound as good as a Friedman or Soldano but if you had to play a show and you couldn't access your regular setup
A few years ago I bought my first modeler for about $500 US. It's amazing and can do almost anything. I hate it, wish I'd waited and bought this instead.
5:41 That's how the treble works on a Multi-Watt Recto, that's probably what they are emulating on that mode and that's actually really cool. Very few amp sims/models ever capture that detail on the Multi-Watt so I commend them for the accuracy.
Seems like it would be a really good super simple travel rig. Maybe just add like a reverb pedal and that's it. It has headphone out built in. Might have to get me one of these!
Come on Ola, be the first, IR-200 vs Line 6 whatever they just released. Some of those are better than others but if half the channels are usable its already punching above its price point
I really like this. I went through this guitar phase where I wanted to make a clean OR15 sound really creamy and clean with ambient tones so I rebuilt my entire board towards that sound. But then I wanted to be able to get a nice rhythm tone that’s heavy and thick without having to bust out my high gain heads or a new distortion pedal. But this bad boy will be pivotal to that change. Just slap this at the end of the chain, turn off cab emulation, use channel green as the clean setting so I have my entire board and my amp doing the work, and have the red channel set to a nice big soldano or 5150 tone whenever I need it. And all my same pedals still running through it as needed. Plus I always run a preset of my big sky as an always on room setting, this has it built in on both channels. I love this, can’t wait. It’s like having two pedalboards, one through my clean OR15 and one through a heavy distorted amp. Rad.
This thing goes harder than expected. I was convinced to check it out when I saw Dylan Carlson using one in an Earth set with one little combo amp instead of the stack he used drag around::::::and it still sounded huge.
As far as I understand, every amplifier has a green and a red channel. Ola, you tested all the amps only on the green channel, that's why it doesn't chug enough!!!
No, it does not chug at all. I was trying to make it chug for a couple of days with different approaches. 1) Using headset/playing along with backing tracks. It took me ages ages to make it sound acceptable but only with an external EQ - it is not possible to set it up right with the one onboard. No reverb onboard (The ambience does not resemble reverb at all, it provides very little spaciousness). Only 2, maybe 3 amp simulations are more or less acceptable (Rectifier, Modded and Soldano), the rest sounds poor and can be skipped. You need lots of cables to hook up into the unit to play, ie. plug in the guitar, external pedals in the F/X loop of the device, headset, USB-> PC. The latest is necessary to set it up correctly (e.g. turn on/off the cabinet - this is critical to turn it on or off depending on what are you using the box for). If you plan to use it for practicing late in the night night with a headset on, please consider anything else (Katana Go is out today!) 2) Trying to hook it up into the tube-amp (ENGL Ironball 20 w with ENGL 112 cabinet). Plugging it into the Input does not make any sense - the sound is pretty sh..ty and selecting the output type in Boss software does not change a thing. Just a little better when plugging it into the Return of the amp but still it makes lots of unacceptable noise which cannot be got rid of by the EQ (neither the on on the box or external BOSS GE-7). Fiddling with the output type (Katana Return, tube amp Return, etc) selected in the Boss software does not help. The sound just does not compare to the all-tube preamp of my ENG. My previous Katana MKII sounded way better with its factory presets comparing to IR2. I am going to return the device to the music store. I did not have too high expectations but it is just too poor. Probably the worst stomp box Boss invented ever. I do not know how it can sound beautiful on the YT videos.
The IR2 is cool, but my problem with it is that everything sounds close enough, but still quite off. That dual rec is cool, but it's not quite a dual rec. It lacks the mids like Ola said. I think the Boss EQ curve is a bit odd. Also, it's pretty compressed sounding. It'll be fine in a mix because nobody will know, but playing in the room with just the IR2 may be jarring.
HalfLife T-Shirt! Sweet! (I got the IR-2 after my amp caught on fire during a show. I love it for patching directly into a DI-BOX to PA). No more heavy gear! just guitars and pedal board and In-Ears!
The clean is louder for the same reason it's louder on most other amps. I've tried. No compression from the high gain! At least, that's what I always thought.
While looking through our studio inventory, I found something that looks like a Behringer MT-2 clone. Sounded surprisingly great, although I was playing through a fat Orange amp/cab
Tried one, wasn’t terrible but wasn’t thrilled with it. Sounds fine for a tiny practice amp type setup or something but not sure it works great otherwise. Doesn’t beat my thr30ii for a practice setup.
I'm not sure about those compact amp-sim pedals. They don't really chug. Or they only start chugging at the most extreme of settings. Especially with passive pickups... Don't forget - Ola is using active pickups here, and still it ain't that tight. I've tried some of these and they seem to cry for the addition of a tube screamer. But for me, in the end I found a multi-effects pedal that incorporates overdrive pedals to be more versatile.

The rectalfire setting is alright, but this pedal needs boost and maybe an eq pedal. And I assume "brown" refers to St. VanHalen's ( to use a Zakkism 😂 ) "Brown Sound."
It would be good if you tried the classic distortions of some cheap effects processor such as the Boss Gt-1...go ahead, go ahead
Your sweep-picking paired with some of those tones made me think you had a little EVH being channeled.
