  • Hey there, everyone.
    In this video we'll take a look at the different CTL-footswitches and how to go in-depth with the assigns, all within the great Boss GT-1.
    I know I have one or two other videos about this topic, but there's always more to learn, and I bet there are some new things in this video, compared to the older ones - nonetheless, be sure to check them all out as well.
    Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it.
    Let me know if you have any requests or questions, I'd be more than happy to answer those and help out.
    Subscribe for more content, coming soon, and don't forget to comment and share this video as well :-)
    Thanks
    Have a great day

    Thank you so much for educating all of us GT-1 players! It would have taken me YEARS to figure out what I've learned in several hours of watching your videos. I've used countless BOSS individual and multi-effects pedals, and this one is my favorite by far. Your instruction has been invaluable, and has made owning this pedal much more enjoyable!

    Hi! I'm a few years late to your channel, but, firstly, I'd just like to say that your videos are amazing and have helped me lose my fear when going into edit patches and such on the Gt1! Thank you!
    Heres's a question about ext footswitches. I've been using the GT8 for years coupled with an FS 5L Boss ext switch. Can I use it with the GT1? The manual only lists the other Boss ext pedals.
    Again, thanks for these great tutorials!

      Hey there, Deb.
      Thank you, I'm pleased to hear that!
      I'm not with the GT-1 at the moment, but from what I can see in the Manual, under the Assign section, then it isn't possible.. Activating the Looper with one footswitch isn't an option... However, you could press the Memory-Edit button, then scroll to the first available assign (A1) then try and go through the FUNC-menu, to see what shows up. I can't remember if there's a looper assign function there.. If not, then it's not an option..

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, Joe :-)
      Thanks for your comment and question - I appreciate it.
      I guess it depends on what type of monitors you're going to use? What do you have?
      If the monitors feature their own set of volume controls, then I would set them half way up - so 50 %.
      I have done that on my monitors, and that works very well - no problem.
      From there you would adjust the output level on the GT-1, so that you have the amount of volume you're looking for.
      Atleast try that out, and see what happens.
      Just remember to set the Output Select, on the GT-1, to Line/Phones.
      Let me know what you think.
      Best regards
      Cheers.

    Mate, your videos are amazing - very informative and very clear.
    Thanx!
    I'm a bassist and I bought the GT-1B recently which is awesome - I got it just for band practices but the quality of the preamps alone have made it part of my effects chain.
    With regards to the footswitches, what's the difference between the FS6 and FS7 and which one would you recommend?
    Keep up the great work, and Greetings from New Zealand!

      Greetings Richard! :-)
      Very nice to hear from you, and thank you for the comment and question!
      Thank you for the kind words as well, I truly appreciate it!
      I'm pleased to hear that you've found the GT-1B and its preamps exciting! The GT-1 and GT-1B are amazing units, no doubt about it.
      The GT-1 has been my main board, for effects and preamps, since it first came out. Excellent tones and easy access!
      The main difference between the FS-6 and FS-7 would be that the FS-7 can be powered with a 9V power supply - like your standard effects pedals. The FS-6 is battery-operated - which can make things a little hard - especially if you haven't got a 9V battery on you... The size of the FS-7, compared to the FS-6, is way smaller, which makes it easy to fit on any pedalboard.
      I would recommend the FS-7, no doubt - it simply makes things a lot easier, and it's simple to set up :-)
      Let me know if you need anything else, Richard.
      Thanks again!
      We'll talk soon.

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there!
      Thanks for your comment and question, I greatly appreciate it.
      You have a total of 6 Assigns, which can be layed out on the different footswitches, like the CTL1, for example.
      If you want other effects on the CTL1 then you have to use the available assigns to turn the effects on/off, just like I showed in this video, or any of the remaining Assign videos I have here on my TH-cam Channel.
      I hope this helps.
      Best regards.

    Hi I am new to the GT1 , I wanted to change down and up pedal to delay and reverb on off . That worked perfectly . CT1 OD/DS. I then attached the TC helicon switch 3 to move patches up and down . I went into ct2 and ct3 and set them -1 and +1 there is no facility to go toggle or momentary . So I tried to use it I copied this patch across several patches . However when I hit the down switch the patches just fly by and not one at a time . I tried to use the assign today and still the same even though I selected momentary . What am I doing wrong if you can help ? Thankyou

    Hi, good video. I'm just not sure how to switch chorus off with CTL1. When I set CTL1 to use FX2, I need to press it to activate chorus, when what I want is to turn chorus off when pedal is pressed. Do you need to use ToneStudio to set the initial state?

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there.
      Thanks for your comment and question.
      You have to change the MIN and MAX parameters, within the Assign that you've set up. Instead of the MIN being ON and MAX being OFF, you have to reverse them, since the chorus is already on.
      I hope this makes sense.

    Hi thanks alot. I set my F5-6 as my up & down to scroll patches, so as to use the GT 1 as a stomp box mode. I'd like to figure out how to use the built-in pedal to activate an additional FX2 and to esclude it as a foot/wah volume permanently. My obiective is to : a) use thr F5-6 as a pacth-scroller (fixed) b) compressor on footswitch 1 (fixed), chorus on footswitch 2 (fixed) c) overdrive and delay on CLT 1 (fixed) d) use ONLY the guitar's volume knob as volume (unfixed) e) use the built-in pedal another effect (like flenger, etc.) to swell in (unfixed). I'd be immensely grateful if you might help me in fixing point d) and e). Would you? Thanks ina dvance

    Dear friend, I have this GT1 for a couple of months now but your videos are much more helpful than the manual per se. This “Assign” function was a mystery to me until now 😁. One thing that I can’t figure out is whether it’s possible to assign the external foot-switches to control those looper functions, for instance, by pressing it just once in order to stop the loop, instead of having to quickly press twice.
    About that, btw, when the loop isn’t playing, and you want to clean up the memory, is it normal to start playing just a bit before cleaning the memory? This is so annoying!!! And I feel that the problem lies with the guy who’s operating the pedal (i.e., myself 😩).
    Any help would be awesome... Thanks a lot, man! You’re the best!

      The looper parameters can't really be assigned to much, and I don't believe what you're asking is possible, I'm sorry...
      Haha, you're right, it all has to do with timing, and that is crucial when operating a looper!

      The problem is that I have a motor disability that prevents me from pressing twice as quickly as Boss want us to do 😒. I wonder if it’s worth contacting Boss to ask them for a software update or something that would enable such feature for people who have similar disabilities... What d’you think?
      Btw, no problem with your delayed response. I can imagine how it must be for you to produce videos, read messages, having to go on of errands, and so on.
      Kind regards, my friend!

      @GuitarNTabs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@leonardocastilhone399 - Oh, I see, I'm sorry to hear that.. Well, you can surely try, it would be worth the effort.
      I don't really see why Boss made the Looper controls so limited, especially with the assigns... A lot could have been controlled there.. But again, it's a scaled down version of the GT-100, so that's probably why.
      I can't really complain, the channel is going very well, and I enjoy it!
      But yeah, you're right, there are several things to take into account, but I'm happy to do so.

    There is something that´s not clear for me.... That´s okay to create assignments to CTL1 switch, it works fine. But when I try to assign to CTL2 or CTL3 switches, it simply doesn´t work at all. So, what is the difference between taking a function and aligning it with CTRL 1,2,3 ...or taking a function and aligning it with ASSIGN A1, A2, A3, A4.???.....Aren't they the same thing?
    I am asking because I already own a FS--6, and 2 FS--5's from owning a BOSS JS--8.
    Now I have an opportunity to own a GT--1 on a good deal......So what I am asking is will I be able to use ALL 4 of my BOSS switches with my GT--1?.....thanks for any response. Cheers.

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Excellent question!
      The difference is:
      CTL1, CTL2, CTL3 is only for turning effects on/off, you can't control individual parameters there.
      For example, turn on an overdrive.
      With the 6 Assigns you can turn effects on/off, but also change and manage parameters.
      For example, turn on a chorus, while also changing the feedback on the delay and type of Reverb.
      On the GT-1 you have only one socket for an external footswitch, like two FS5s or one FS-6 or one FS-7.
      Honestly you don't need any more than that. The GT-1 is a great and flexible unit, and I give it my highest recommendation.
      If you need any help setting up the GT-1, then I'd be more than happy to assist! Just let me know.

      Hi there,
      Thanks for your comment and questions.
      Did you get it to work, or do you need any help??
      Did you make sure to set the effect you wanted to be assigned, for the CTL1, and then use the other Assigns, A1 - A6, to set up the rest of the effects?
      Also, make sure the Assign is turned ON and the Source is actually set to CTL1.
      Let me know what you think.
      All the best.

    Is it possible to assign the three different footswitches to three different patches?

      Hi Joshua.
      No, patches can not be assigned to specific footswitches, only effects and parameters can.
      I hope this helps.

      @@joshuahenry7482 - It surely is, BUT, you can work around this, you know.
      By saving the patches you need in your desired order, so you can have the patches right next to each other, then toggle through them, using the UP and DOWN footswitches.

      Hi there, Pat.
      Thanks for your comment and question.
      If you have a look in the Boss GT-1 Parameter Guide, found on Boss' webpage, you can see a chart on what can be assigned to the footswitches, and the looper isn't an option, sadly...

    If im.playing live, how do i quickly go to another present, in the middle of a song?

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, Paul.
      Thanks for your comment and question, I greatly appreciate it!
      If you need two separate patches, and you have to switch between the two, then you would have to save those two patches right next to each other, then use the UP and DOWN footswitch to access them.
      But, there might be a better solution to this...
      You say you need to switch between two patches, in the middle of a song, but why? What do you need?
      You might actually be able to have those two patches, all within ONE single patch, by using the CTL pedals and the GT-1's Assigns.
      Tell me what you need, and what the two patches are doing, and then I can figure something out, so you won't have to switch like that.
      Looking forward to your reply.
      Best regards.

      Maybe the Vox switch doesn't meet the requirements of the GT-1.. I'm not familiar with your particular footswitch..
      I would always recommend buying Boss products, when using Boss effects. I can recommend the FS-7.

      @@GuitarNTabs can you assign a patch to each of the footswitches or buttons?

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@ernestocorredoira3096 - Patches can't be assigned to the footswitches, only parameters and effects.
      You use the UP and DOWN footswitches, or switches from an external footswitch, like the FS-7 to scroll through the different patches.
      If you wish to have your patches in a specific order, then simply arrange them so. Then you can easily scroll through and between them.

    So you cant assign an external footswitch to control the looper?????? So IT HAS to go on the floor....... fucking junk wtf?>

    • @GuitarNTabs
      @GuitarNTabs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, Robert.
      I've just had a quick look, both in the Manual and Parameter Guide, as well as searching the GT-1 itself.
      The Looper can only be controlled by the onboard footswitches, as set by default from the factory...
      The GT-1 isn't meant to be a looper, not by a long shot, and the looper-time is quite short... It's fun for recording a few things, but that's it, really.
      Most Multi Effects units are made to go on the floor, but you can handle the GT-1 on a table top as well, that depends on your venue, etc.
      "fucking junk" - well, I wouldn't really put it that way.. The GT-1 offers a lot of great effects, preamp models and speaker types. It's basically a down-scaled GT-100.
      If there's anything else I can do, I'd be happy to assist - there's always a solution, trust me.
      All the best.
      Cheers.
