  • The guys at Boss have sent me a GT-1 to try out, In this video, I see how quickly I can dial up gig-ready tones.
BOSS's GT-1 guitar multi-effects pedal packs their best amp models and effects into a compact floor unit. A streamlined interface makes choosing and tweaking patches quick and easy. Keep an eye on your parameters with the easy-to-read backlit LCD. Take command of your performance with the GT-1's assignable control switch and expression pedal. Enjoy a clean, noise-free signal, courtesy of 24-bit converters and BOSS's proprietary Adaptive Focus method. The BOSS GT-1 guitar multi-effects pedal fits easily in your gig bag, thanks to its smooth, modern design, and runs for up to seven hours on four AA batteries. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

I love mine. I accidentally found a secret to getting a massive tone. I do the graphic eq then boost and expand that tone with the parametric eq. Add the Tera Echo and huge arena tones.

-Thank you for making a use-able "How To" video. So many pedal demos are simply "here's what it can do" type of videos and don't go through the steps of how to get there. I just bought this pedal and I am an old guy used to simple one-effect stomp boxes. This video gives me hope I may be able to enter into the new super-technology era of effects and figure one of these things out and make it use-able. Thanks !!

    Hello there, The Studio Rats.
I'm a long-time Boss GT-1 user, having used it since it came out, and still do.
I use the GT-1 for live gigs as well, running straight to the PA, using the onboard Preamp Models, and they are really good.
Minimal tweaking needed, and the well-known Boss effect quality is there!
Instead of creating 2 separate patches, for clean and overdrive/distortion, you can actually have it all within ONE single patch, and still have the lead/solo sound as well.
The Assigns will make sure of that, and the possibilities are endless.
    All the best
    GuitarNTabs.

I just picked this unit up. As I get older, the less I want to tote around. I have a bunch of individual pedals just sitting because my old pedalboard weighed a ton with all my pedals. I play in our church worship band. I leave one of my guitars at the church. When it's time for rehearsal, I grab a small bag with this pedal, a cable to plug into the snake and my wireless units. I only use a few sounds so it works out great for me. If set up properly, this unit can compete with discrete pedals all day long. I've seen people get horrific sounds out of discrete pedals as well as all in one units such as this. It's all in the finesse and not over-doing it. Oh, and great review and explanation. Editing on the computer is the way to go!

I absolutely love my GT-1. Although it doesn’t have quite as many options as it’s big brother, it is super simple to use, has all the sounds I will ever need, and sounds great.
I also love that you edit anything on the box itself if you don’t have a PC with you, and you can re-map the bank up and down buttons to toggle on/off any of the effects as well.

I use a Helix Floor with Boss Reverbs in the loops, but I use a GT1 for fly gigs, and since they comprise more shows than driving gigs, I have really taken a shine to the GT1 and how it's implemented to give live player options and programability. AND it fits in my carry-on.

I used it on a gig for the first time a few days ago, it was awesome 😎, all I had to do was plug it straight into the mixing board and it sounded great through the PA, I don't think I'll ever need an actual amp for gigs since this sounds so good and it's way more portable, it fits in my gig bag.

I had no idea what i was up against or if i could really leave my Blues Jr at home...so i searched GT1 Gig and found yours Paul. BINGO that's all i needed really was those 2 exact patches....so me being a retired developer i was lazy and did not dwnld the editor for the laptop but was able to very easily follow all of your settings right there on the GT-1 interface. Then i was supersprised to see Adam Rafferty had some stuff to say about GT1 so there i go next for the acoustic patches for those gigs. 😎

It's designed, by Boss, to specificly take multi effects that way - which is an excellent addition!

The Gt-! is awesome...not sure if anyone mentioned but the wah can be turned on and off by pressing the pedal forward(like a real wah)

I also turn off the noise gate, it is on every patch...it sometimes will cut off a really subtle note. The unit is quiet.

Set the pitch shifter to (0,10, and mix set to taste). Gives a micro pitch chorus.
