      Hey Patrick if you are around the Huntsville area and are able I'd be more than happy to take you out fishn. I fish Guntersville and Scottsboro pretty heavily and I fish out of my boat at least 4-6 times a week. Mr.Gene is a legend around these parts not to mention he is the CRAPPIE KING !!!! I'm 45 yrs old and been fishn and huntin my entire life and Mr.Gene is so knowledgeable pertaining to fish,especially Crappie and any type of sun fish.

      Patrick, I get my dad out two or three times a week. He's 84. I have to load him in the boat and I've put handrails up for him to get around the boat. I'm lucky to have been able to retire early and take care of him. Fishing and mowing is about all he can do now. Or put new washers in a faucet, but I get all the tools for him. Take Richard up on this if you can. It'll be good for you and him. I see a lot of old folks that use to fish everyday like my dad. They go down to the boat ramp and see how their buddies are doing. They've sold their gear. I wish they had people that could take them out. Oh, My dad this year is starting to let me run the trolling motor. We've got two chairs up front on a deck boat.

      @robbyddurham1624 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think a lot of the old daily fishermen couldn't stand to not be in control of the boat. I knew my dad would be pissed at me all the time when I'd run the trolling motor. If he'd fished in the back of the boat like me with him for years, he'd understand.

    Right off!!! Last time I had my Boy with me, was windy like that. "Son, where is your float?". "I lost it Dad. It hard to see with the waves.". So of coarse I tell him to just real it on in. He starts GRUNTING and HUFFING lol. He is fighting something that had come under the boat and about 20 yards the other side,towards deep water. After about 10 minutes and a breathing treatment (lol) he brought up a Drum about 8 pounds! That was GOOD FER ME! Havent laughed that hard in LOOONG time

He is the ONLY guy on TH-cam that actually takes the time to show you and explain what hes using that day. Hes always detailed about jig size, jig color, rod and reel info, what size of line,water depth and temperature. I also wanted to let you know that if you ever wanna go out in the boat with me your more than welcome. I fish Guntersville and Scottsboro 4-6 times a week religiously. Lol. Have a good day buddy.

When RGTFM yelled and sprayed water on himself, I laughed out loud. I'm not joking! The yell got me. RGTFM is my favorite TH-cam channel. Would love to fish with RGTFM for bass and crappie using live shiners. I could be in northern AL in about 4 hours.

  • @scotttalken8431
    @scotttalken8431 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Here is a tip for you: Go to where you catch crappie at in the winter. First off the crappie will move vertically on consecutively warm days. The fish will be more active also. Now after a few more days or weeks of this the fish will move horizontally toward spawning areas. As they make this move this will move toward and back away again from the bank. Shallow tapered banks and chunk rock banks will warm up quicker, so very likely crappie will be there first. Eventually the crappie will be almost every where along the banks. Also, lure color has very little to do with catching crappie with a moving bait. Either the crappie are there or there not. More important than lure color is swimming the bait at a depth the crappie like.

    • @primitiveoutlaw1037
      @primitiveoutlaw1037 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott Talken you are exactly correct sir. Its nice to hear when folks like you actually have something positive to say or educational and informative. Just by your response I can see that you are knowledgeable pertaining to Crappie. I agree with everything that you said in your post. Someone made a comment a few months ago that said to Mr.Gene and I quote "Can't you catch any other species of fish or go somewhere else" !!!! Man I blew a head gasket, I said hey buddy I wanna see you fish a 67,900 acre body of water with 964 miles of shore line and catch a 1/8th of what Mr.Gene catches. Have a good day buddy.......

    Richard, Crappie are strange critters. My ex BIL put in one of those underwater fish light "green eye" things in his private lake. We would just sit out at night on his pier and chat and watch all the fish in the water. After a while, all the fish would parade around in around the light. You could easily see the shapes of the individual species. Crappie where strange. Most species swim "belly down, back skyward". The Crappie would often swim or suspend sideways, upside down, straight up and down. It was like they had no sense of up and down. Just an observation. Also, great video man. The wind did look rough, but you got on them.

    Hello Mr. Gene. I noticed the windy conditions there on your video. What do you use to keep your boat so still? I noticed you do not use your trolling motor as much. Just wondering if it was a special anchor you were using. Thanks for the information. I have only fished on Lake Guntersville twice in a Cast For Kids event close to the state park but it was quite windy those days also.

    • @primitiveoutlaw1037
      @primitiveoutlaw1037 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I keep 4 different length PVC which is small in diameter and whenever I don't wanna use a anchor or trolling motor I'll simply take 1 out of my storage compartment and push it down into the bottom. I have 2 that are 10ft and 2 that are 14ft. They are light weight and use hardly NO space. This way if you gotta change or move location quickly it's as simple as pulling it up and out and down the river you go.

    There’s my ole buddy! I was starting to worry about you the last day or two, damn glad to see you back at it! Boy, I can’t wait to get out after it, but I have to wait on my son to come in from Ohio or my brother to come in from Bardstown, Ky, ( I have to go with either of them cause I don’t drive no more) - so there’s my ride (s)! Anyways I just about got them talked into doing some of your techniques, this spring & summer, and we’ve got quite a few places to go too!!! But anyway, good to see you partner! Fish on, Fish on!!!

    Bald headed Elmo? I resemble that remark Mean Gene. Well, you know what they say... some turns gray and some turns loose. Excellent video. Thanks too many my friend.

    Love the videos! Hoping to learn the crappie game half as good as you have! I'm going to try to figure em out this year, never really targeted them before. Tight lines from Lay Lake Alabama

    My wife kept up the same orders about the yard so I went and got one of them zero turn mowers with mulch kit...wrote the check from our joint account. I can mow everthing in 20 minutes
    She don’t complain about yard work no more!
