Rita was the inspiration for Leon Russell's "a song for you" and "delta lady" when she was his girlfriend. She dated Joe Cocker and was married to Kris Kristofferson. She is part Cherokee Nation. She wrote the last instrumental part of Layla that Eric Clapton used even though she was never credited. She is credited with breaking up Crosby, Stills & Nash as she dated Graham Nash while others in group had a crush on her. Several other songs by different artist were inspired by her.

Jamel- Can you react to Emmylou Harris' "Deeper Well" or "All My Tears"? She is such an underrated singer & musician. Her "Trio" album with Dolly Parton & Linda Ronstadt is also fabulous.

Booker T. Jones, of Booker T. & The MGs, was married to Rita's sister for a time. He had developed the instrumental track and lent it to his sister-in-law to apply her vocals. It became her biggest hit.

Great Rita Coolidge song! When I was in my 20's (late '70's) my boyfriend's friend asked him, "what does your girlfriend look like"? He replied "she looks like Rita Coolidge"! Wow, nice complement!

She did it as a cover. In the 70's she married and shared bands and duets with Kris Kristofferson. Booker T Jones
was her brother-in-law and sang with his late wife Rita's sister Priscilla. Booker T does some lovely sing on Rita's 70s albums, a fan since 72

I have to admit that I was, and still am, in lust with Rita. This is a hit 10yrs. after Jackie Wilson had the original hit. Jamel, if you haven’t done anything by Jackie Wilson you owe to yourself, and us, to check him out ASAP. Stay safe and stay well. Keep on keeping on, brother.

Great cover of the Jackie Wilson song. Rita has had a really interesting life especially during her early career. Of course, she was married to Kris Kristofferson in the 70s. Leon Russell wrote the song, The Delta Lady, about her. Recently read an article about her and her current partner. She is an alumna of Florida State, and now lives in northern Florida not far from Tallahassee. Love the Midnight Special performances, then and now.

This one brought back a ton of memories, have her albums, she was married to Kris Kristofferson for awhile. I just got a new CD of hers for my sis for her b-day, she's also written a book so multi-talented. And yes, she is of Cherokee heritage from both parents...she's also done some acting. Several other women single singers, Carly Simon, Petula Clark, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Olivia Newton-John, Helen Reddy, Joni Mitchell, Donna Summer and Anne Murray to name a few.

When I was 10 (fifty-one years ago), this couple moved in, across the street from us, with a playful little cocker spaniel dog ... The neighborhood kids (including yours truly) would toss the puppy's tennis ball and the dog, appropriately named "Joe Cocker," would retrieve the tennis ball, while his humans sat on the front porch and played music an sang ...
We found out, later, they were Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge ...

Thomas, if you ever get the chance. Listen to the different versions of A SONG FOR YOU by the temptations, and Donny Hathaway. The temptations version sounds like they're singing about a girl. Whereas, Donnie Hathaway's version sounds like he's singing about JESUS. It's crazy! Its the same song, but just 2 different styles. You were correct, the song was written by Leon Russel, Joe cockers right hand man!

Rita has been a great success in Brazil over the years and her songs have been used as a soundtrack for soap operas that are loved by Brazilians. The most heard singers in Brazil in the years 70, 80 On Brazilian radio the most listened to ar Carly Simon , Rita Coolidge, Donna Summer, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Barbra Streisand, Grace Jones, Karen Carpenter, Olivia Newton-John, Kim Karnes were the absolute queens in the top hits. Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Chaka Khan, Stevie Nicks, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Cher, Tina Turner were not well known here in Brazil and Cher and Tina only started to be successful in the nineties and when they started making movies and mega shows. Chrissie Hynde and Debbie Harry only for the most connected to rock. ... Cindy Lauper and Madonna weren't considered high-quality singers. We're All Alone by Rita Coolidge is a song loved in Brazil and even today it plays in some radios and mainly in the regions where the beaches are and the music has been overcoming time and generations and when it is posted on social media it still has thousands of likes... We're All Alone, All Time High, You, Love me Again, Words, I'd rather leave while I'm in love, Your love is liftin' me higher, I Don't Want To Talk About It were the greatest Rita's successes in Brazil.

She sounded so smooth, and was so good-looking. Several big-name artists wanted to work with her, and she covered several hits. She was alluring and enticing in every way. Next when you react to more of her : th-cam.com/video/OvNdPewuXAQ/w-d-xo.html

You have to listen to Carole King!! A singer/ songwriter her album " Tapestry" is one of the best selling albums of all time!! The title track is a good place to start, her lyrics are flawless!!

You ABSOLUTELY MUST do Jackie Wilson’s version of this. It blows this out of the water, goes around and picks up all the blown up pieces, puts them back together and blows them out of the water again.

She also supposedly wrote the Piano Coda to the Eric Clapton song Layla.
