that ride height is insane! so much so that you can fit a camera under there! That was a great angle by the way, in fact, the whole video was shot very well indeed. The beautiful scenery helped too.
So cool. I have tracks on my Kraton 8s 1/5 scale and 6s 1/8 scale. The 1/5 scale tracks were custom made and the 1/8 scale tracks are from integy. The Kratons are insane with tracks. You should try them. Integy has them for $150 for the 6s Kraton they will probably give the, to you for free to review. Hope you consider it.
Guess I know what I am doing with my extra trx4 chassis I have laying around. Needs a few things to get going but I can make a track machine ready to take out whenever.
You know we're all going to try second gear and full pull trigger. Ill bet it can take it. Thanks for the video. I was recently all over Traxxas web site, never saw anything about it. Hopefully it's up there now. Great vid.
Running a detailed TRX-4 Defender at stock height. Wondering just how much caution you would advise running at the quarry or doing the beach thing at the shore would hate to fugg it up right off the get-go. Very informative video, thanks for sharing this video, did not know it existed!!!
I don't think it would be a big issue as long as you are alert while driving in those conditions. If you see a track hang up, don't keep driving, stop and fix it. When I got a rock hung up in the track and it came off center, I kept punching the throttle a bit for testing purposes. It's my job to test it for the viewers so if it broke, it broke. But nothing happened, no damage, no visible scars. Just popped the track on and kept going. Just be good about maintenance afterwards and they should be good to go.
The track rubber compound isn't as soft as most tires, there's no rubber collapsing to grab the rock. With that said, I did do some climbing and it did fairly well. Because of the length of the contact patch, it cleared some big gaps and pulled itself over some ledges, but they have their limits and type of rock plays a roll too.
@@tashaver4388 I didn't fully install them, just put them up to it. I don't think it's totally necessary, but there may be clearance issues, most likely during articulation. There might be some clicking or worse, hang-ups from the tracks grabbing something. But I think the driver would realize it instantly and stop. Traxxas put in the instructions, some bumper, slider and body trimming may be necessary depending on the kit. With the long arm kit however, I don't believe clearrance is a factor on any of the TRX4 models and therefore no trimming. I can probably do a bit more testing and will try to remember to go into extra detail when I revisit the tracks during my upcoming TRX-4 Sport Project series.
Yeah, there's a lot of air under there, but no clearance issues. When I do the TRX-4 Sport series, it will have standard suspension set-up and I'll show the track on it.
They look cool, but I would only ever use them in snow. I hate the cold, so seeing snow probably would be rare anyways. Also, would be great for sand, but being on a beach is more rare than being in the snow. Having said that, I still want them. I just don't see myself swaying the $230 pricetag. I've said that before when I bought my first RC. "This is gonna be the only RC I get" but got another, and another, and another, etc. Now there is 10 RCs in this house. Lol.
When RC gets ya, it gets ya. But for those who are really serious about getting tracks, these are the least expensive set out there from what I can tell.
so... locking the Diffs for the same reason you are locking them when running wheels... and why not more power?? why only low gear and only 2S LiPo ?? will the Traxx shatter into pieces?
Good review. Like you said, not really meant for the places you filmed. The real test will come in winter, where I bet they outperform tires (in a video, side by side, hint hint). Not sure what you mean by letting the tires acclimate to the outside temperature. I have always found that warm tires perform best, and the colder they get the worse they grip. Oh, and yeah, pretty expensive for Canadians, who get the most snow, ironically.
Hey you watching this (if you can) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. answer this question to me...since I’m getting the Traxxas slash vxl Fox edition and I don’t like bashing my rc car ( just driving it around ) ,since I know I can’t repair the part I break until every time my dad gets his paycheck how long would my car last? How did you mount a camera on the under carriage and what camera did you use?
so can this be driven in a "half track" configuration with only a pair on the rear?
do you have to have the lift kit in to clear the body?

Not without some way to mount the track's shock. Without the spring you will just flip the track unit up into the body.
