Excellent advice for a TRX4. I followed most all your tips and my rigs are perfect for what I expect out of them. Stock motor lasted me three years with weekly river crossings.
I’ve been upgrading my recent TRX4 Brown F150 high trail! Brass C knuckles , brass hubs , light kit , HW fusion pro 2300 kv , upgraded wheels and tires ( a little smaller ..imo the stock tires are too big) I love watching your upgrades and throughly impressed with your knowledge of the RC world.
Tha k you for this return that could help a lot new TRX owners. For my opinion, this truck is very well born and extremely reliable in any use, that so rare to mark it bolded. He will be so much better with a lot of weight as low as possible No needed of anything over the wheel level, but axles, links, portal hub, wheel hex, ... In brass and it run so much realistically New shocks mount of longer shocks to 100mm could be good, not so hard to keep all whells on ground as often as possible And alloy beadlock wheels and tires 1.9' dependant on ground you want, stock tires are good for begin and sand surface But as soon as you drive on softer or rock or water, tires are made to excellence for these uses. Add a controller one hand wheel steering to be at top of confort. With cruise control you are so easy to fun. All other mods are not necessary but I prefer add lights, ESS dual sound, all metal accessories for looking, light don't forget, and tqi Bluetooth. Stock motor survives at all I try to kill him, including salt water and beach, just redo brushes. You could change but brushed motor are hard to kill. If rock crawling, it should be stay for years. That's it. My opinion From France 🇲🇫 Cheers
Absolutely great video! I just started shortly with my daughter, she want one for her 10th birthday and I got her a TRX-4M. Now I learn the in-and-outs, so that we can develop our small one over time :). I think I watched ~50 RC Videos already, in the last couple of weeks, and I like your Channel and the "RC Review" most. Very friendly style :)! Keep going!
Thanks for the tips. Just picked up my Defender yesterday. It was fun to buy since my last RC was purchased in 1989. thanks again for introducing to the TRX-4.
Wow, this is such a great video! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this. After much deliberation and driving of a colleagues TRX4, I pulled the plug. I'm usually a speed freak but I am looking forward to this coming and all the upgrades that can be achieved over time!
I've got a wonderful TRX4 and started upgrading and making the chassis stronger. I put the metal gear set into the shift servo, and surprisingly I do believe I have the stock steering servo. For a 4 year old Defender its held up really well. However I've gone through countless motors. I would like to upgrade to the Hobbywing
Spend where needed and save up for the fancy longer lasting parts. I dont have one but it would be metal axles, servos (steering then micro servos) motor bead lock rims (opens up options) then accessories, added weight.
Love this video, looking to get into crawling and decided the TRX 4 Defender as my first rig. Love your content and will really help me with this new hobby. Thank you!!
Great video, agree with the brass you don’t need all of it for sure, Your Traxxas transmitter will bind up to 30 different traxxas models, get the Bluetooth module you can adjust all the settings change the multifunction knob to all different things like TSM, steering sensitivity etc, and with the Traxxas lighting kit I can change the lights high low and turn on off the head lights rock lights and roll bar lights,
Great video. Very useful. Thanks. (About to start the TRX4 assembly kit with Defender body and will definitely be adding some of your upgrades to it as I go.)
12:43 If I'm not totally mistaken the external port on the XL-5 (TRX-4 ESC) is just a connection to your battery. So solder your own plug onto the connector that you connect to your battery. Edit: Before you plug anything to the battery, make sure that it can handle the voltage the battery delivers.
Nice video & helpful to hear your opinions after some time testing these out. My daughter and I like watching your videos and this gave her some new ideas for her TRX-4 sport kit that we just built. Cheers!
Great vid I agree with all you said you’ve done a great review on multiple items I’m new to crawling but not to Rc I think you’ve paved the road to getting the most out of a trx4 with the right upgrades thanks a lot
Just bought a trx 4 kit. Never been into scale rc before. But I’m addicted to that scale crawling. So much fun. I just hope to get the suspension to act like a real size rig.
Yes, the TR4 is a perfect replacement for the stock shift/diff servos. Out of two rigs, I've only lost one stock servo and the was actually my fault by trying to remove the servo arm while the radio was on. That said, I have several TR4s on the shelf ready to go when needed.
Just discovered (and now subscribed) to your channel. Wow, what a super clear, helpful and balanced review ! Really have appreciated that as I am just about to start on a Defender TRX-4 'journey'. So will now go and watch your earlier videos. Big thank you from Scotland.

Thank you for your video. I ordered a TRX4 Defender yesterday and have already been considering what upgrades I should get ;-) Now I know what's necessary and what can wait, thanks to you! I think I'll start with the axles, as I really like them and it will add more weight 🤗
Very good video! 😊👍🏼It is important to show others what they could potential do to upgrade their rigs with all the option parts out there. I have spent over £2,000 to upgrade my TRX-4 Defender in grey and it is weighing over 5kg. I think I might have overspent on the upgrades, as you suggested not everything is necessary and might have an adverse effect. I'm sure for those who have seen my channel would think I have spent way too much on my TRX-4, but we are all in this RC hobby and free to do whatever we want, which is the beauty of it. Your Defender looks great by the way, and I watching your channel has given me some ideas of what to do to my rig. You can get carried away upgrading, I know I bought a t maxx and another in bits but the other is all custom parts made from aluminium instead of plastic Which looks mint but it's in bit's. I did build it once and found it's a drive shaft from complete so took it to bits again to upgrade the other because it's got an aftermarket racing engine and hand made tuned pipe on it and does about 90 mph. It's actually hard to keep it on 4 wheels on any terrain. Do you think I should buy or swap the genesis for the TRX? I really do like them and it will be nice to just switch on and go instead of getting the engine going even though that's half the fun and better sounding. Subbed for more cool videos.
