@@daronoch5779 At least those bosses don't take that long per attempt. Maybe Midir and Gael, but the general duration of those battles is 5-7 minutes if done correctly, so it isn't too bad. Yiazmat or Zodiark, from FFXII, on the other hand... Now those can go die in a fire. 1+ hours PER ATTEMPT. At least for Yiazmat you can leave and come back and he would still have the same HP as before IF he didn't cast Regen on self.
Battling the End from MGS3 is one of the most atmospheric moments in that game. I remember slowly crawling my way through the three different zones looking for him while the rain slowly fell. I beat him my first time within about thirty minutes I believe.
I remember playing that when I was 10 or 11 and it took me hours of gameplay, I spent several days thinking about it trying to figure out ways to outsmart a game, I remember I even broke one of my controllers in half because I thought I had him, had went through my plan a million times in my head and boom wrong. I can’t remember how i actually beat him, I honestly think I fell asleep while playing and he died of old age or something.
@@ardi1066 Sounds brutal, what is it that you do that requires such long hours? My day job is technically only 37.5 hours, but I've got my own business on the side and study, so I can empathise. Having only a handful of days off is tiring as hell. Thankfully I'm from a country with decent employment law, so it's my choice to be tired vs doing it out of necessity. Hope you stay safe.
Gotta agree, felt to me like those devs were sort of assuming all their players would have a generalized understanding of the boss' fundamental mechanics and I highly doubt many of them actually do
Or people never caught on to you needing one of every mainline job since chains of promathia came out, to lockout AV's 2 hour abilities. When he gets ready to cast a 2 hour, you're supposed to have someone of the same job use their's to lock out his 2 hour. He will no longer be able to use that special ability. People are/were just a bunch of "let's do the same thing over and over again, and maybe we'll win", which is equivalent to insanity.
I remember my first time against Nyx. After 3 hours, he did Night Queen and KO my whole party. The Charm is not a problem, it's the "I can attack twice per turn" + "When about to die I spam this attack that deals Severe ammount of Allmighty damage to your entire party + apply random status ailment among all the ones existing in the game"
When I was 12, the three headed tentacle monster from Half Life stumped me for a good month or two. I blame me accidentally shooting the guard who was supposed to tell me it was blind.
First linkshell to beat it: HOLY FUCKING SHIT WE DID IT BOYS MY GOD IM GOING TO KISS EVERYONE OF YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!!! WE DID IT! Square Enix stubborn because someone beat it: mmmm idk, sounds fake
SE would actually ban people for not playing the way they wanted people to play. The "legit" way to beat this boss before they toned it down was basically impossible. You can look it up for more details but basically required specific jobs (classes) to do special moves to interrupt the boss casting things like Benediction but with the internet back then it was almost impossible for anyone to catch it in time.
I was among one of those Linkshells that fought Absolute Virtue, this video truly does not do the fight justice. In the game you could only have a group of 18 people fighting it at a given time, he also had 2 other abilities called manafont that allowed him access to the most powerful AOE spell in the game, but it would take him up to 3 minutes to cast so you could stun him and interrupt it, but when he combined it with the Chainspell ability he would cast it in less than 2 seconds, so he could essentially wipe your entire group. To get around this there was second or even third wave groups just in case group 1 wiped, so in total you could have 54 people standing around to fight this guy, but its not like the other groups could just jump in, you would have to disband parts of the original group and invite these new members so it became a menus game as well. The devs released a video after 3 years and gave people the key to beating him but it still took my linkshell 18 hours to take him down legitimately.
Bro how are you going to go into that much detail about the fight and then not say how you ended up beating it? What was this amazing key they showed you?
@@asdfghjkllkjhgfdsa8725 ok that is 4 years of game mechanics i would need to impart just to get the gist so i will give you the short notes of the short notes version. Every job class has an ability that can only be used every 2 hours. Each of these abilities can be used by Absolute Virtue as well and he can combine them to make it even more powerful. The ability mentioned above, Chainspell, could be combined with another 2 hour ability called Manafront and he could instant cast everything he wanted without spending his mp. The key to beating him was waiting for him to use one of these two hour abilities and then every job inside the 18 player engaging alliance had to use their respective 2 hour ability as well, this would then lock him into only being able to use that 2 hour ability for the next 2 hours of the fight. Yes this means he could use it multiple times while the rest of us players had to wait out the 2 hours each time. This also means that part compositions were not ideal in order to get people into the party just to use their 2 hours (for example you never brought a beast master to this fight because their abilities were not made for taking on ultra bosses like this, but you had to have one in case Absolute Virtue used it so you would drop a party member and bring in the beast master just to use the 2 hour then drop him from the party to get back the core member). This was especially dangerous for any Ninjas, which were the main tanks at the time, because their 2 hour ability was literally suicide in exchange for a large amount of damage, so you had to boot them from the party and bring in the backup ninjas so they could continue to tank. This especially got hard when he would use the White Mage 2 hour of Benediction because then he would fully heal himself and would continue to use it every 15 minutes for 2 hours. It was a lot of luck based hoping he would use the correct two hour to lock him into something weak as opposed to something that broke up your damage like the Paladin's Invincible ability. Hope that helps a bit more, trust me this is the extremely simplified version of the fight.
Thomas Hoffman lol that is a lot but the og comment was so anti climatic. I don’t fully understand, why was he stuck using the same ability just because you had everyone use theirs? Hm I probably need to reread🧐

@@asdfghjkllkjhgfdsa8725 oh and to answer the question I missed, we couldn't just use it to lock him in at the start, he had 20 seconds to mirror his usage of the 2 hour in order to lock him in. Its just the way the developers programmed him.

I was there for it when my friends on the Remora Server popped AV on a Friday night... They gave up Monday morning... What made AV in FFXI so hard was the developers absolute refusal to explain how they intended the boss to be beaten. Every time someone beat it, the made sure that method would never work again. People were using Dark Knights with Kraken Club and Monk's subbing Dark Knight with Soul Eater to beat him down fast... They made him build resistance to Soul Eater. They released this cryptic video that showed the intended method and it was never clear... What happened was to cut the regen in half, you had to defeat enough summons from the Jailer of Love... which was the fight that spawned AV... And then you had to defeat enough of AV's Wynav's to cut the regen down again... People were like... Yeah... Duh... We know that... To stop him from using Benediction, you had to have a White Mage use Benediction WITHIN 3 SECONDS OF AV doing it. He could use every jobs 2-hour (now 1 hour) abilities at will, so if your white mage botched the timing... Which by the way... was impossible to land if you lived outside Japan due to server latency, you'd have to wait 2 more hours to try, or get another white mage in... On top of the fact you'd have to get him down low enough to even do it to begin with. It was insane. And the architect behind it? Hiromichi Tanaka. Who went on to almost ruin FFXIV, and made xenophoic comments about people outside Japan. I know some people love Tanaka... But... he's really kind of a shitty person and developer. He's very condescending of his player bases. He actively tries to present himself as more intelligent than fans of his products and when they can't figure out something, he acts like they're dumb rather than his puzzle doesn't have enough clues.... AV... NOTHING IN THE GAME TALKS ABOUT IT. Everything the players knew was from trial and error... and no one is gonna think... Oh, this boss just used the same ultimate that my job has! I better use it within 3 seconds!! Players were trying to do that, even after the video was released... but server latency made it IMPOSSIBLE for people to land it... And he's like... You all are just bad players. You need to be more skilled like that Japanese (I'm paraphrasing, though he did infamously make comments similar to this over the failed release of FFXIV).
@metalfaust19 One of the things not clear from Falcon's discussion or my post was that AV was an OPEN WORLD boss. So anyone on a server that had access to Al'Taieu in the section where Jailer of Love and AV spawned could join. So it wasn't just the people I knew from the Remora server.. It was... THE ENTIRE SERVER. 2,000 people from North America, Europe, and Japan fought it those 30 hours. I mean... an alliance is 18 people, so only 18 people could actively fight it... But think about that. That was the first time anyone had lasted longer than 5 minutes against AV, and so at that point, people said LS/Guild affiliation be damned, everyone was in it together. So the entire server was taking shifts by region. If an alliance wiped, another group took it over before it could despawn. IF someone died, that person was kicked out of party and replaced why someone else got that person back up. It was intense. They could never got it below 50% though. That was before there was even the video hint about 2 hour abilities. an ability you use once and then it goes on a 2 hour cool down is just not something you're gonna think to respond to the same action with.

And, you know, that's ignoring the months, if not YEARS, of time it took to get to the point of even being able to take on AV. Even compared to the MMOs of the day, FFXI was fuckin BRUTAL with what a time sink it was. Just leveling a single job to 75 took ages, especially when you factor how long you'd often be sitting there looking for group because unlike most MMOs even then, soloing was more or less impossible. After you hit level 15-20, you just had to group no matter what to gain any meaningful experience...which meant finding 5 players to join you, players of specific jobs, to fill specific party roles, and even then it was obviously a roll of the dice as to whether that player was a piece of shit waste of space or not. One bad healer, puller or tank often meant a wipe, which meant everyone LOSING thousands of xp, losing tons of time having to run all the way back out to camp, losing tons of money in wasted food and items... Absolute Virtue wasn't THAT bad for coordinated groups. How Benediction works is exactly the same for the player as it is for the monster, so it was on a 2? hour cooldown IIRC. @@miatmiatmiat6991 Yes!!!
@Hrant Petrosyan ok totally unrelated but ok
Imagine misspelling legitimate
I just love it when the game warns you that it will be a long fight

@@brendonallum1738 Agreed now i value fun and challenge more than mindless repetitive grinding of anything .
If someone had told me this fight was army training, i'd believe it.
And the devs kept changing it?? What kind dick move is that???
@metalfaust19 They brought him back in XIV aswell.
a lot of av clears were due to glitches. which were patched.

Yeah, you beat me as well to it. Btw, I'd say that Awakened Daimon is also a long fight. And almost impossible for close range vocations...
You beat me to it. I remember in original DD, that the Ur Dragon was up in the lvl 160 range, and you couldn't do enough damage to him to register onto the server. Only assassin builds abusing one specific grappling stab, while insanely buffed could cause damage.
YES! Just posted. Probably my favorite fight because the consort is brilliant! And even if you did get in at the end, it could still take hours to beat. And then you are trying to get the lay hit!!!! Loved this! Got some great loot! One of my favorite games ever!!!!!!
I was just about to comment that too

They shouldve use japan Raviente. 10 men raid in MH game!
As for me, it's actually behemoth I'm having trouble with. I'm fighting him solo (he's meant to be fought in a team) because I have horrible wifi. Closest I got was a second comet in the final phase. I just ran out of time
@@floresbrian00 can relate to the internet my dude, the fact that your doing it solo and getting that far is very good. Just keep trucking my dude you will eventually get it.
Even Xeno takes longer. This guy must be a fücking noob.
Saw absolute virtue in the thumbnail, my PTSD brought me. >:(
I'm surprised Pandemonium Warden didn't make second, but I guess it makes sense. Can't have XI taking all the top spots.
Ditto 😡
/sits in corner rocking back and forth. "No not AV."
No gamer knows what a grind truly is until they've played FFXI as it was during it's first 10 years, before they changed everything and made it more accessible. I never had so much fun in a game as FFXI, my shell fuckin ruled and we were all really tight both in game and out, some even to this day over 10 years later, but man did you have to work for it.

Yiazmat from ff12 took me around 4hrs straight battle... no saves in between (easiest tactic to win against this guy)
My strategy was
1. Target lines was on so i know which on my party was his target
2. Battle mode set from "active" to "wait"
3. Reviving and healing members at reserve
4. Proper gambits set-up
Curaja alone is enough to heal your hp even with bubble status
Dragons dogma the ”Ur-Dragon” online version should be top 3

I was looking for that
Exactly the one I was rushing to comment. Totally agree with the Top 3.
I wouldn't say top 3, but definitely should be in top 10

The arcana is the means by which all is revealed.
Hell yea
Fucking Yukari with Diaharan ;~;
The thing with Absolute Virtue is it had EVERY 2hrs (now 1hr) ability of every class in the game (basically your ultimate ability) and he can do it anytime he wants with waiting for the cool down so picture this nightmare situation: your half way though killing it, the Beni then Mighty Strikes (auto-crits) 100 blows (never ending auto attacks) or Chain-Spell (go from one spell to another without cooldown or charge time)
I remember when I was in EB games talking about final fantasy 15 and the clerk honestly tried to convince me that it's a 2 day battle with the adamantoise
I told him that it's in game time for 2 days not really 2 days.....
Yeah he felt pretty stupid lol
The End was originally gonna be WAAAAY longer, but Kojima decided that was unrealistic and/or impossible lol
The Freaking Ur-Dragon in Dragon's Dogma, last I say the shit was level 600+ and that was like 2 or 3 years ago, with not many players left online fighting that thing takes soooo long, sometimes almost a week

5:26 Dexiduous the Invincible is an overpowered Drifter, not Stalker; Voracidous the Invincible is the raid boss version of a Stalker.
Exactly, and it is not the only one you fight outside of a Boss arena. Vermivorous (the raid version of a varkid) is fought that way as well and was actually in the base game (non-dlc).
"The moment man challenged me to a battle with braindead AI, he sealed his fate. Yes, the arcana is the means by which all is revealed. Beyond the protaganist move lies charmed diarama boosts, it matters not who you are, the nest hour and a half awaits you"
woot woot! FFXI being represented! Great MMO, I can't wait to see what is coming with Nexom remake. Keep up posted if you can, FFXI is active and receives uncommon amount of updates for an MMO in "maintenance mode"(as in it just got new content)
Why not play ffxiv? Lol
Maplestory black mage was hyped up over 9 years of story. Then when it was finally released, it was unbeatable for 7 months for the regular servers, then there's a different server called reboot with different mechanics that took a year and a half for a party to finally beat it. Each attempt took about an hour back then and usually requires 6 people.
It has a total of 498 trillion hp

it looks really sick, never really seen it before. sadly my 360 broke otherwise i would have bought it somewhere
If they remake it maybe they will be able to keep the flesh and blood in it. If you remember the first trailer the game was going to pretty graphic but I guess they got too much criticism so that's why everyone is mechanical. But pretty much my favorite game of all time
I feel attacked that the Ur-Dragon from Dragons Dogma, and the Adamantoise from Final Fantasy 15 weren't mentioned at all.

@@MawZer For what? Ur-Dragon?
You're aware you can't beat it solo unless you play offline, in which case it's health it drastically cut by almost 3/4ths.

final fantasy 11 was the best mmorpg ive ever played.. i could not enjoy any other mmo after that... it was tough, but you somehow managed to survive in the world of ffxi. our first Kirin (boss) attempt took us 6h back in the day , even normal enemies in the harder areas could cause a whole group wipe, and you lost a lot of exp for dying. and getting exp in ffxi was damn hard back then, took me like 6 months to get my first max lvl class
AV was a tough fight but Pandemonium Warden was a nightmare. Not only did it take a long time to access but the fight itself was brutal until you figured out how to survive when it used Astral Flow.
I spent a couple of weeks trying to beat the Soviet Union in Hearts of Iron 3.
They were pretty much the final boss of that game.
I beat The End by 100% luck. I went to a screen and he was right in front of me, proned, facing a cliff with his back towards me. I froze and thought "Holy shit. What do I do? This can't be happening. This must be some sort of trick."

Adamantoise btw. Close enough tho fuck that boss
Get the Zwill crossblade and the fight only takes like 40 min
I beat him in less than 5 minutes
Absolute Virtue wasn't THAT bad for coordinated groups. How Benediction works is exactly the same for the player as it is for the monster, so it was on a 2? hour cooldown IIRC. I just remember we'd damage him normally until he did that, then blow through every single burst dmg piece we had - the twice I beat him each time it took about 4 hours. But we also weren't using just 1 alliance on him, we were using 3, because we didn't care about the drops so much as bragging rights that we did it.
good if you can keep up your skillchains and element bursts
Yiazmat and Absolute Virtue showed up in FFXIV.

Yes, it's true, it's a real pain in the ass and you don't get to decide at what level you encounter it. Luckily for me, I was already level 24, and I did a speedrun of a year and a half. Beating it's so fuckin rewarding tho. Co-op with a good therapist and meds are key.

Monster Hunter has the right approach with a time limit no more than 50 mins, that way you know that you don't make it in that time, then you are doing something wrong.
You're pretending that they just take a lot of time, but they're also extremely hard to do.
Excluding Yiazmat because of the Gambit system, most of these are not just a matter of waiting and that makes them satisfying to beat.
