I think stripping titles is a meaningless endeavor. I saw those Fab 5 games. I saw those victories even if the NCAA says they don't exist. I saw Penn State win football games and bowl games even if the NCAA say they don't exist. I saw Barry Bonds hit those homeruns. We as people know these events happened. The players and the sports world around them celebrated. The casinos paid out winners and took money from losers. Stripping titles is lame. Just fix the issues we know exist and prevent them from happening in the future.

The stats make it obvious, the difference between 1st and 2nd in batting average is typically under 5 points. In 2017 Houston had a 10 point margin over 2nd place and added 40 points to their team batting average in 1 season probably with most of the same guys, a statistician would have noticed they broke multiple records in that season. I suspect the differential between their home and away average is a record what will never be broken.

Off the top of my head I recall the University of Minnesota had to forfeit their 1997 Final Four basketball appearance after it was deemed a couple players failed exams and were helped by an administrator. Final Four banners at Williams Arena? Gone. All history of them playing in the Final Four? Gone. The Astros should have their pennants taken down, and MLB should not list a champion for that season. That empty spot will be a reminder for teams in the future.

Not really, Basketball is Different because The Defense Allways knows the Offensive Plays and every play has 2 or more counters. NCAA has a monopoly on college sports. MLB is different. Unions are involved. People OWN the teams. It’s just different and not as easy to accomplish. Asterisks and shaming those involved are really all you can do.

Title should clearly be vacated and it's insane that the MLB would recognize they blatantly violated the rules, suspend the manager and yet stop short of vacating the title. Max's argument is you can't vacate it because who would you give it to, he doesn't seem to understand what the word vacate means. The presumption about baseball since the steroid era is that everyone is always cheating, the league has a major image problem, so when organizational scandals like this are uncovered it's even more important to deal with them severely to rebuild the reputation of the mlb.
@Drew Johnson Cheating in baseball goes back much further than the steriod era (pretty much since its inception) & it was definitely a whole lot more than 1 or 2 people on a team taking steriods. The 96, 98, 99 & 2000 Yankee teams had over half their rosters on steriods/PEDs & every player that wasn't knew which players were but said nothing. Let's not be naive, i think we can both agree that MLB has had a cheating image problem long before u or i was born. The fact that there's still cheating going on today should only surprise the ignorant. So they either do something about ALL cheating (which they won't because they would have to strip ALL titles) or they put a 'cheating line' at not using modern technology (which is what they're trying to enforce) They won't strip the titles though because of all the previous transgressions of ALL the past teams.

Title should clearly be vacated and it's insane that the MLB would recognize they blatantly violated the rules, suspend the manager and yet stop short of vacating the title. Max's argument is you can't vacate it because who would you give it to, he doesn't seem to understand what the word vacate means. No one should have the 2017 world series title, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Imagine if MLB vacated every title of every team that cheated or had players that cheated in some form. How many do u think would still remain champions?

The presumption about baseball since the steroid era is that everyone is always cheating, the league has a major image problem, so when organizational scandals like this are uncovered it's even more important to deal with them severely to rebuild the reputation of the mlb.
@Drew Johnson Cheating in baseball goes back much further than the steriod era (pretty much since its inception) & it was definitely a whole lot more than 1 or 2 people on a team taking steriods. The 96, 98, 99 & 2000 Yankee teams had over half their rosters on steriods/PEDs & every player that wasn't knew which players were but said nothing. Let's not be naive, i think we can both agree that MLB has had a cheating image problem long before u or i was born. The fact that there's still cheating going on today should only surprise the ignorant. So they either do something about ALL cheating (which they won't because they would have to strip ALL titles) or they put a 'cheating line' at not using modern technology (which is what they're trying to enforce) They won't strip the titles though because of all the previous transgressions of ALL the past teams.
@@feeling_wicked Fair point, I personally think they need to fix the image problem they have (and probably a few other things too) in order to still be a relevant sport in a few years, so for me this is an opportunity to make a statement about cheating in the sport. Going back and vacating all the titles of steroid era teams and other teams that may have cheated in some way would be the consistent thing to do, but that's a pretty ridiculous thing to suggest. I'd personally like to see them vacate these ones since they're so recent and the indiscretions have been so recently uncovered, I do understand your point but if they don't come down especially hard on cheating when it so clearly occurs, it will continue to overshadow the game as it has for the last couple decades.
