Just completed this episode and wanted to thank you for posting it. I know it was a lot of work recording and editing and I appreciate that. Your collection of plotulopi is gorgeous. Ramadan has since begun and although I'm not Muslim, your video made me look into the meaning of Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarak.
Thank you so much Enig! It takes more time than even I anticipated but as long as I am enjoying it I will continue to post :-) Also thank you for the Ramadhan well wishes - I'm getting a surprising amount of knitting done when I don't have to prepare 3x meals a day lol!
Hooray! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 thanks for taking the time to post again. Everything is stunning… I especially love the halo and the tweed fabric on your leg-warmers. Fabulous! 😍
I definitely will! Hopefully in my next podcast and knitting update. I will also try to post the cast on stitches and knitted dimensions etc so hopefully that will help if you want to knit some up for yourself :-)
Alaska needs to be worked tightly if you dont want an obscene amount of pilling. It also helps to pair it with a fine strand of something else. It grows a lot when blocked , but then settles back down to something nearer the originally knitted size which means its best to wait a few days to sew the seams,.If you seam when freshly blocked then the seams will become looser. Alternatively you can finish the whole piece before blocking.
Thank you that's interesting to know! I'm actually working with Alaska right now and using 6mm rather than the suggested 9mm (which is far too big IMO!). It's going to be oversized anyway but still good to know the qualities of the yarn. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
i've been loving your channel! personally i didn't love knitting with Alaska but I liked it better once it was blocked as it bloomed quite a lot. It also worked really well for colorwork. I picked up the Forest Nepal after seeing it on your channel and I can't wait to use it
Ooh that's interesting that it blooms. I might go up half a needle in that case as that swatch on 6mms was nice and dense. Thanks for sharing and I do love the Nepal slightly more than the Alaska and the Forest shade is just so pretty :-)
To reach more people, you should add your newly posted videos to the home/featured tab of your youtube page. When I go to your channel page, nothing is listed on the home tab. Some may think you don't have any videos.
Oh ok I didn't realise that there was nothing there. Thought youtube automatically posted there. I will look into that and see if I can customise the homepage. Thanks for pointing it out
2 parts! Christmas came early. Thanks for the uploads - I'll watch as I knit. I finally ordered my JC Rennie yarn and your last video was helpful as I used what I could see from the shadecard you posted to select my yarn. Also ordered a shadecard to make future purchases easier. I always see so many great reviews on Knitting for Olive - especially the kid silk mohair. Hope to be able to purchase from them in the future - for now, I'll use my Drops Kid Silk with Woolyknit or Plotulopi. Just makes sense that way.
@@CedarTreesBumblebees I can't help it - I just love your videos and they are so in-depth. That's good to hear about KFO - sometimes we think we are missing out on something just because everyone speaks s highly of them. I don't doubt that KFO is nice, but it might be a bit much in some applications. I have used Rowan KidSilk Haze paired with a cash-merino jumper and it was beautiful - so soft and lush and I'll definitely use it again. But it has to be used with the right yarn. Using KFO or even KSH haze with plotulopi for instance does not make sense based on the inherent wooly factor of rustic yarns. Drops has a nice price point. It seems to shed more that KSH, but I hope that would settle once the garment has been completed and blocked. I found that purchasing Drops from Netherlands/Germany offered the best price. Sometimes I think I'm more interested in shopping than knitting so I'm making an effort to knit more these days.
Hi. Finally got around to watching both videos and it has been so enjoyable watching your different projects and acquisitions. So very impressed with your yarn dying efforts. As for the wooly knit sale, I agree with you about the price hike and also wish they would have made the coupon reusable. Although I purchased several cones during the sale, I'm ordering some more as I find holding the yarn double for some projects means yarn chicken. As far as the baby blanket, how about different blocks of varying patterns for a nice texture. Check out Norah's Afghan which is a free pattern for an idea. You could always knit fewer blocks to size down for a baby's blanket. Personally., I would avoid man-made materials for knitted baby items. Wool is best, but you can go for a merino which is softer or even a superwash merino that's safe for a washing machine. It's generally advisable to use wool rather than acrylics to avoid rashes caused by overheating. As morbid as it sounds, one of the reasons wool is preferred for baby clothes/items is acrylics melt in a fire. That's another reason baby items are regulated. It's odd that yarn can be sold and geared towards baby items, yet that material is not the best for babies.
Thank you so much Enig! So glad you enjoyed them :-). I checked out Norah's Afghan and her blocked blanket is so pretty but I actually liked the one her mum made with the 3 cable panels more! I only have two skeins of this yarn and hope the blanket will be large enough with them (I haven't seen this yarn anywhere else again). That's interesting information about the yarn suitable for babies though. I do need to do more research on it but from what I've seen there is a view that wool is best and another that wool should be avoided (as it can also cause itchiness and allergies). I will look into it some more but still need to use this up so will go ahead (with either the honeycomb or the Andalusian stitch) but maybe also make a wool one too in the future (as long as it's washable):-)
Unfortunately I have no control over the ads. My channel isn't currently monetized so I can't even control where youtube places them in the video. If I ever do get monetized then I will hopefully get the option of removing the ads from the middle of the video as I can understand how annoying that would be.
Thank you for your amazing videos. They are super helpful! Would love to know what % tax and shipping you paid for your Knitting for Olive order if you’d be happy to share that information. Elizabeth
Thank you for watching! The tax was 21% of the item/order total then the shipping was 6.50 EUR to the UK. In regards to the shipping my items weighed 575g not including packaging (7x50g Heavy Merino + 5x25g Silk Mohair + 2x50g Pure Silk). The shipping might go up if your items are heavier (ie above 1kg). Hope this helps :-)

Thanks so much! 😊 I hope they fit properly once finished!
Be sure to show them! When you explained your height etc., you and I are the same size and I’d love to make myself some! 🤗
