    I had my 1st experience with Audyssey and the MULTI EQ app only about a week ago for my Denon AVR X3800H.
    You showed me a few things I didnt know I could do, thanks! Great video. I'm going to try and tinker with the midrange compensation - turning it off to get rid of that 2khz dip and hear if I like it any better. I'm currently running 7.3.4 with 2 subs on my front stage outside of the 2 front towers. The 3rd sub is midwall, right behind my main listening area/couch. Its not a dedicated home theater room, its a common living room area, so Im a bit limited on where I can place my subs.

    Would also recommend setting the crossover to 80 for all speakers (the common crossover for HT, thx standard). Also keep the distance and levels as it measures the sound/room itself (sound hitting the mic) so it’s a bit different than measuring the distance yourself.

    I would love if the app allowed you to set where you want audyssey to target before running it, that way you could have all the filters being utilized where you actually want them. As it is now, they are being used and then when you set your cut off, you have wasted filters that could've been used elsewhere.

    The App is a must for me as a content creator. It’s nice to be able to load my settings after reviewing an AVR or processor.
    I have yet to try without midrange compensation to see what my ears prefer.
    One question I have is if you are adding a curtain at 300Hz, wouldn’t that negate the need to turn off midrange compensation?
    Keep up the great work.

      I believe he goes over how you set things up in the app. So he shows how you remove the 2K dip, and then he shows how you can cut the area at 300Hz - but you might in your own room want to keep the full range and remove the dip - so he has now tought you how to do that :)

    Great video. I’ve been considering the app because when we sold our house, the buyers asked to keep my Denon S710W. I didn’t see any issue and figured I’d get a newer model. I purchased the S760W and Audyssey has been terrible on this one. Dialogue and normal scenes sound muted and action scenes are unbearably loud. I used dynamic volume on light for a bit but hated how it worked. Maybe the midrange dip is causing my issues. Hopefully this will help. My S710W sounded great using Audyssey but this 760 has been bad.

    Question: If I set Dynamic EQ "ON" in the app and then send the result finally over to my AVR, then can I still, for this curve, modify it later on in the OSD of the AVR? The OSD has 4 values for Dynamic EQ, 5, 10, 15 dB and Off. Can I utilize this for configs generated with the app? Or do I have to choose like:
    - If I want to optimize without the 2 kHz dip, then I have to use the mobile app, but then I have to accept not being able to fine-tune the Dynamic EQ/Volume settings later on.
    - If I absolutely want to fine-tune my Dynamic EQ/Volume setting, I cannot use the app but must use the built-in OSD-based room calibration, implying that I have to accept the 2 kHz dip.
    ?

    A bit confused.... I would love to use the app to further tweak and make the system sound better, but for first time users it seems challenging. Are they default settings or curves we can use ? Not sure if I will be able to understand to navigate through the app. 🤔

      There are 2 choices called target sound options but they are pretty similar to each other. I am also new to this stuff and have zero tech skills but the app is not very difficult to understand once you use it. If you do get it I highly recommend using a tablet and not your phone. The curve editor is next to impossible to use on a phone.

I did a factory reset and it sent once. Added surrounds and tried to run it again and got the dreaded connection error. Tried saving the AVR configuration from the web interface and it failed even after all night. Any ideas? Is there a harder reset than factory?

    Why would you ever NOT want audyssey to attempt to flatten everything?
    And then parametric EQ it depending on the content?
    Are the audyssey results not accurate? REW says they're off?
    Secondly, can you set the Q factor for the full eq? And how many frequencies are available? I've got 7 frequencies EQ'd for my 20-300hz alone via APO equalizer on windows.

    Great video! Just so I'm clear, you did not use Audyssey to apply anything to the sub because you knocked the frequency range down to 20hz, but you did apply a house curve, right? Is there any reason you did not want Audyssey to apply filters to the sub?

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Excellent question and thanks for the comment, Dan! You're correct in that I didn't want Audyssey applying any filters to the sub channel. Essentially, that will "undo" pretty much all of the work you do previously if you're using something like a miniDSP to time align and EQ your subs. That's where I also applied my house curve. By default, Audyssey will attempt to flatten out the subwoofer response and remove any EQ you've already applied through other means (miniDSP, Parametric EQ on the sub itself, etc). Using the app, you do have the ability to go in and add something like a house curve, though in my experience it's really difficult to get fine, granular control using the app on your smartphone or tablet.
      I hope that answers your question! Let me know if you have any more and I'll try to get to it sooner rather than later (still unpacking from our move. UGH! haha)

    • @andykiz7736
      @andykiz7736 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    For the life of me I don't understand why Denon/Marantz does just put this in all their avrs from the factory. My only issue with "Audyssey" is once you use it ,it doesn't allow you to make any changes. It's like Audyssey is saying I've changed all your settings and you "will" like it ,period! Everyone has a different idea what sounds good to them. The "editor" app basically gives the power back to the user. It does this for $20 bucks. I say it's definitely worth it. Seriously I spend more than $20 bucks on a plethora of things that have zero long term use like this app does. But ,again if Denon is listening please for the love of God just add it to all your future avrs.

    I tried using the step-down version of Audyssey on my X1600H in my very small home theater. Sounded horrible. It either just can‘t handle such small rooms or the regular XT version is just so much worse.
    EDIT: it got all the distances wrong and then obviously sounded phase incorrect and just overall wrong and weird. Speakers are in a range of 80-180cm. Doing a manual EQ by sounds way better.
    But the app seems very interesting with just being able to correct the lower frequency range and using the manual EQ above that. Might give that a shot.

      Turn off the mrc and limit the frequency to ~500 hz. Then send that to the receiver and use that file.

    I have been fooling around with the MultiEQ Editor Android app and have a question. When you're running a calibration from the app, it there a way to back out of a mic position because of a burst of outside noise and redo it? When you run Audyssey from an AVR and that happens, you can simply hit cancel and redo that position. With the editor app, I haven't found a way to do that which can make a calibration difficult unless it's done under noiseless conditions.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s been a while since I’ve used the app and I only ever have on iOS devices. With that said, I do remember that after it measures every speaker at a position, at the end it allows you to redo that position again. I recall having to do that when we first moved in because our neighbor started their Mustang with their loud exhaust during one of the measurements haha.

    • @MrNorcal81
      @MrNorcal81 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @HomeTheaterGamer Thanks. The IOS version may have a redo choice but it appears that the Android doesn't or it may show up here and there but you can't activate it. I recall that Joe N Tell has said that the $200 MultiEQ-X program does let you redo a position but that the MultiEQ Editor does not. While it's great that the editor app lets you make make various changes in the baseline Audyssey calibration and send them to the AVR, the inability to redo a position if ambient noise suddenly is heard is a fatal flaw. If you live in a residential neighborhood, like I do, you're always dealing with cars going by, dogs barking or, in my case, since Travis Air Force Base is 20 miles away, the occasional C-5, C-17 or KC-10 flying over, and the ability to stop a position run and redo it is crucial. Oh well.

    • @MrNorcal81
      @MrNorcal81 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HomeTheaterGamer Turns out that you were right. On the Android app, if extraneous noise disrupts the test tones to a position, you have to let them finish and wait for the data for that position to transfer from the AVR to the Editor app. It takes a while but once that's done the Retest Last Position is enabled. After, I forgot how many positions (2 or 3 I'm guessing) the app also lets you end the test and use what you've already done to complete the calibration. So it turns out that the MultiEQ Editor is fully functional. It's obviously not as capable as Audyssey's own MultiEQ-X program but, for now, it works for me.

    Is this app necessary if you already have a miniDSP 2X4 HD

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have a house curve setup through the MiniDSP, then I’d say yes if you run Audyssey afterwards. The app allows you to disable EQ/room correction on the sub completely so you’ll retain your house curve.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t believe you can. There is a piece of software on PC called ratbuddyssey that allows you to edit the Audyssey files parameters. I’ve experimented with it and haven’t found it too intuitive and very hit or miss for me, but I honestly haven’t spent enough time with it to say it’s not worth it. If I can find some time after we move, I plan to do a video on it and possibly some tutorials.

  • @MrBoomtheroom

    why do u have to use 8 mic positions.. if only a single chair wouldnt 1 position be best in the main seating position?

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do as little as 3 positions if I remember correctly, but Audyssey won’t let you do just a single position. You can just move the mic a few inches to the left, right, forwards or back for the other positions if it’s just you. I’ve seen some people suggest to just do all 8 positions and never move the mic. I don’t recommend doing this as it can (and most likely will) cause issues.

    • @shemsureshot

      I thought to mention while Audyssey will make you calibrate at least 3 “positions”, you don’t actually have to move the mic when it tells you to. This means you can only calibrate a single position if you want 😉

    Most of the room correction appears at frequencies over 1000hz. By limiting to 300hz don't you defeat the purpose of running Audyssey?

      @donaldgervais1836 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate your like but the question was a serious one. Aren't you defeating the purpose of running Audyssey? I also noticed you turned Multi EQ off. Isn't that the same as not having Audyssey at all? I'm not being sarcastic. Just curious as to if I'm totally missing something.

    • @randelldavis578
      @randelldavis578 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I just used the app and set the cartain at 300 and it sounds better than 500 or 700 on my HT system. Auddessey does more than EQ, it does phase setting, db level matching and it does base management which is probably the most important with room calibration. But the reason why I would want to use the curtain is that my speakers or all speakers have their own particular sound and you'll want to keep as much of that sound as possible, and when you EQ your speaker you're changing the characteristics of the speaker's design. Mostly it's a little bit of trial and error and what I'm learning is that there's no one way fits all and you might have to do a calibration several times to find that right sound and that this journey is a learning experience, I'm still in the learning process. Maybe this helps some.

      It all really depends on the room it’s in. Some rooms are better with a curtain at 500Hz, some 300Hz, then others benefit more from full range correction. Unfortunately there just isn’t a one size fits all best way to go about, as each room and setup is going to different.
