Advanced SUBWOOFER and bass OPTIMIZATION guide (SVS app and MultiEQ Editor)

  • In this video, I'll show you how you can use the SVS app to dial in better subwoofer response BEFORE running Audyssey and applying a house curve using Audyssey's MultiEQ Editor app. This is a more advanced guide and also goes alongside my previous video on optimizing your subwoofers and figuring out the best crossover (that video is linked below). The results you can achieve without a miniDSP 2X4 HD using this one-two punch app combo is pretty impressive. While it won't replace the miniDSP and it's feature set, it's a great option for those who don't want to spend the time and money that getting a miniDSP requires. Thanks for watching!

    This is a great video. I noticed that you turned offf Audyssey multi xt32 , that you only changed the level of your subs to 0, and you didn’t the levels of Fronts. Why didn’t you change the level of your fronts to 0 as well?

      I totally realized just now that I didn't mention to level match your speakers before doing this. That's why I didn't change them: I had already level matched all main speakers to 75dB, so the other speakers are good to go and act as the baseline level. Thanks for pointing this out.

      The way I typically do it is to set my overall volume on my receiver to 0dB, then play pink noise in REW and adjust the individual trim levels of each channel to reach 75dB. This way I know that 0dB is reference level. I’ll actually be doing a video tutorial next week on this.

    Dude your killing it, in glad you turned off mid-range compensation as that represents the crossover point in most speakers in which case speaker companies already compensate for that in their internal crossovers. Leaving that on essentially is like compensating twice. Again phenomenal job🤘👍👍🔥🔥🔥

    Hi mate these videos are awesome and very helpful! I do have a question however, I’ve seen your other video trying to improve the frequency response of the sub by tweaking sub distance and crossover settings in the avr. I’ve also seen some other videos on youtube about “gain hack” by setting the sub level higher (80db) before running audyssey. My question is, does the method in this video replaces the “hacks” or tweaks explained in your other video? Also, do I adjust the sub levels in the svs app before or after running Audyssey?? Thanks!

    I got the MiniDSP for my birthday last week and your series on the setup was indispensable! I have a curve I’m happy with, but I am totally disappointed with the overall bass output reduction. Is running the bass several dBs hot an option or will that destroy the curve I worked so hard on? If increasing the level is an option is it better to do it through the receiver or the minidsp?
    Thanks so much for being so commutes to the video/editing quality and the detailed instructions. I’ve shared the channel with all my friends interested in Home Theater.

    This is a great video, but if you have older SVS subs like i do they don't have the cool app, so for me it makes more sense to use a miniDSP 2x4 HD. But this is a great way to save $200 for the average person that has the newer pro series with the cool app.

    I am in the process of obtaining a laptop from a buddy of mine, YAY! Getting a proper mic will be another issue. Question. When using two different model/brand of sub, does Audyssey EQ the lesser of the two? From what I’ve been told, this is the case. So, if you have a really good sub and a so-so sub, just use Subwoofer 1 as LFE and connect the other(s) using the speaker terminals from the L/R speakers.
    “Reference” kills the highs, always use “Flat”. The Audyssey app is still not compatible with my x7200wa.

    Hey Brad, I have a question that has not been answered on the internet yet. I have been running my PS4 audio for years now through Yamaha hs8 studio monitors. It always sounds terrible compared to my computer where I can run external sound card like focusrite or M-Audio through USB and the computer will detect it. Is there a proper way to run PS5 audio through studio monitors like you can on a gaming PC? Thank you for any help you can give on this topic.

    How does the equalization applied to the subwoofers affect the Group Delay?

    Awesome video and super timely - this is exactly what I was after! Q: At 17:57 Audyssey set your sub trims at -12db..doesn't that mean your sub levels were too high for it to calibrate properly (since -12 is the lowest trim it can detect)?

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually mistakenly edited out a part where I talk about that. If we weren’t applying a house curve, then yes, you’d be correct. -12dB would mean the subs are way too loud for Audyssey to set the SPL correctly, and you would end up having to run Audyssey again after bringing their level down. However, because of the house curve, we need that extra output to apply the house curve without boosting anything.
      We’re essentially tricking Audyssey. You’ll notice that after applying the house curve and bringing the sub trim level to -3dB, everything is where it should be.

      You are 100% correct on both! And also make sure to set your crossover to the highest point in the receiver when adjusting the PEQ and house curve. That way you’re seeing the subwoofer when doing REW measurements.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  ปีที่แล้ว

      As a general rule, get all the subwoofer stuff done FIRST before doing anything else with your speakers. My preferred workflow is making sure each sub is level matched first, then check and see if they are in phase and working well together, then focus on EQing them (if you have the option), then determine best crossover points with speakers. There are a few different ways to go about things in each step, so pick which one you think works best and makes the most sense to you is my recommendation.
