Picked up an old TS185 and have been doing some work on it. Enjoying the series. This is the exact kinda stuff my friend and I enjoy doing. A few brews, fix stuff, laugh about how dumb we are from time to time and eventually enjoy the fruit of labor. Cheers indeed!
I just got the exact bike and binge watched your entire rebuild on this. You are underrated by a long shot. Seriously dude don’t lighten up. Triple down on your strengths and adjust to the production over time. I really appreciate what you do. When I can help I will
I dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the login password. I love any tricks you can give me!
@Lian Ian I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I overhauled my ts125 engine and the crank oil seal was flipped, its good that I have seen on this videos the right side that would face the crankshaft.
You split the cases from the right side which is a sliding fit over the crank. The left side is an interference fit and you press the crank out of the case. Assembly left side first, then right side. Disassembly right side then left. Note heat can also be your friend.
Quick tip for anyone doing this, put a box out, get several bags, label the bag with the part in it, and a number. Take a photo of every step you take as well.
i saw that one coming with the case splitter, i never use those, i split my cases on a very different manner. and no not with screwdrivers between them! but hey you must learn somehow. i use to tap gently with a rubber hammer on the case and crankshaft on the sides towarth the outside. and i heat the cases or shaft a bit up. it takes a bit time, but i never damage the cases. also for the flywheel use another puller, and hold the flywheel with a angle grinder-key.
can't wait to see that engine full cleaned and painted! good job as always. greetings from argentina! pd: yes, that clutch kit needs to be sumerged in oil before instalation
Do you know how you gonna fix that broken crank case? Tip for the future- splitting the crank case you should do on the end, when you have case completely stripped on left and right sight so you can see if there are any bolts holding it together. Cheers.
Yes soak fiber clutch discs in same gearbox oil; overnight minimally is fine. Mystery "pin" & spring is the gear change detent. Holds the selector in each gear so to speak.
Thanks for the videos. Super helpful here personally. Discovered your videos while planning a Brat build. I loved your patriotic paint scheme on the cafe bike so I copied it exactly. Ironically, I recently was given an early 80’s Honda xls 185. Am planning a restore like you are doing. Learned a lot from watching and gained confidence.
Pictures man. When opening up an engine take a ton of pictures. Helps a lot when you go to put it back together again. I have an old phone in my shop and it's soul purpose is to play music and take reference pictures for later assembly.
I have a lot of mechanical experience. With that said I would be scared to attempt what you are doing. And your channel is inspiring. I’m proud of you for sending it! I hope only good things for you and your channel. Ps my temper is not too good I would have slammed the engine after cracking the case. I’m curious on how you plan on fixing it. 🤘🏼 keep up the good work
Your oil drain bolt will be hollow and should have a spring and a pin that fit inside. If it's missing them that's we're those mystery parts u mention at 12:10 go
I've found a1979 Suzuki sp 370 for 30 bucks. It's been sitting in the desert, half torn apart. I found the manual and I'm going to do a rebuild like this. You would be surprised how the desert preserves things. When it comes time you splitting the case could I borrow your case splitter?
You gotta fix it up real nice and sell it to make profit I wouldn't rely on TH-cam yet it takes alot of time you'll definitely get big some day I really enjoy your videos I'm sure alot more people will
Honest mistake overlooking those screws under the coils. I have a 70 Yamaha two stroke and it has no lights, but a nearly identical stator to yours and it has all three coils, I'm wondering what the third one is for?
If you're working on an unfamiliar engine buy a manual or check out the online parts diagrams. At least you can see how it all comes apart before you break something.
I'm worried that you are not out with a girl on a Friday night, but that's ok. Thanks for the video and your persistence. Now I have something to watch before bed. Oh and you are a homebrewer, you inspire me to brew again. Take notes or draw pics or something. That is going to be tough putting back together.
Soak the clutch plates in some new engine oil there big debate on how long you should soak them for people say 1 hr or 24hrs I’ve always just let them soak for ten mins make sure there’s plenty of oil between all plates and then just chuck em in
What year model did you do. I'm also busy with a TF185 that was in pieces when I got it. I need advice on the wiring from the magneto side, all wires was cut and the loom is a mess. so this means I'll have to make my own loom. Mine must be street legal so lights, indicators etc is a must. Do you perhaps have a wiring diagram for me? Thx David (Davidfoli4@gmail.com)
Thanks for subscribing, welcome to the Gold Gang! I ride a 1981 Honda CB750 Cafe Racer, a 1981 Suzuki GS850 Scrambler and soon a 1977 Suzuki TS185 Dual Sport!
Editing used to take me around 8 hours for one 12-20 minute video, my problem was that I couldn't finish it all at once so I split the editing up into a couple days which is okay but I have noticed it takes much less time if you just sit down and do it. Now, I can edit a video in under 3 hours. It takes a lot of practice to get good at it
Great video. I'm learning a fair amount about 2 stroke engines from this. Just so you know, you're actually a Generation Z/Cell Phone Generation. Basically anyone born between 1997 and 2020 is one. They're nicknamed the Cell Phone Generation, because most of them have been exposed to cell phones their whole lives. Generation Y/Millennials like me, are people born between 1980 and 1997. I was born in 1983. We're nicknamed Millennials, because we were the last generation born before the new millennium. Just curious why is the legal drinking age 21 in the USA. Here in Canada, it's 19, except for Albert, Manitoba, Quebec and the Maritime Provinces where it's 18.
Dude,do yourself a favour, lot of free workshop manuals online, you'll get all the torque settings, part numbers ect, read then pull apart! buy a rubber mallet! use a steel putty to repair the cases.
Steel putty for crankcases are just about useless. There are aluminum welding rods that you can buy at any harbor freight that go on like solder. It is rail aluminum though and way tougher than steel putty.
Just wanted to let you know its illegal to consume any form of ethyl alcohol in every state in the US as someone under 21. You can brew, but not drink. If you want to get a high ranking job in the future you might want to edit that part out.
Actually you need to oil a little the clutch dics before puttinf them into the carter. If you want, you can see a video to help you, they speak french, but this is well shown th-cam.com/video/ai74i8yCGQQ/w-d-xo.html
Prediction: This engine is never going to run again. Now scrap... You should have studied a repair manual or at least an exploded view of the engine. Any good mechanic will understand how to reassemble before they disassemble. I sincerely hope I am wrong about the engine being scrap - good luck!
Get a job and use that money to help pay bills and buy things that are non channel related. Like trips for you and your gf . Then save/use the TH-cam money and if you earn any Patreon money save it as well and use it for channel related stuff. You should get a nice part time job so you can learn to juggle youtube (hobby) and real life (Bills, cost of living, and stuff like that) Im also talking from experience and im 24 years old. So dont think im some random duche thats older just telling a young kid/guy to get a job. I also do youtube stuff but I Make 0 money from it. I just do it for fun and as a hobby. Also learning to juggle hobby/work/life will be a great thing to have once you move out. Because your on your own. Id say, Live with your parent as long as your want. Help pay bills and stuff. Get a hang of doing adult stuff lol I had to start when i was 18 when my dad passed away. anyways, keep up and thanks for the great videos dude!

You are honest showing how you broke the engine. I like to see and learn how things can fail and break when done wrong. Thanks!
I just got the exact bike and binge watched your entire rebuild on this. You are underrated by a long shot. Seriously dude don’t lighten up. Triple down on your strengths and adjust to the production over time. I really appreciate what you do. When I can help I will

@Daxton Maison instablaster ;)
@Lian Ian I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Lian Ian it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out!
@Daxton Maison you are welcome :D
Just got a ts185 (seems like it's got a compression issue) and this will be my first time taking an engine apart so I appreciate this video!
I overhauled my ts125 engine and the crank oil seal was flipped, its good that I have seen on this videos the right side that would face the crankshaft.

since you wanna run your mouth whats your secret to splitting cases.
Great job gold guy .you soak your clutch plates in the gearbox oil you put in your gearbox .keep going loving the vids
Alright will do! Thanks for watching!
can't wait to see that engine full cleaned and painted! good job as always. greetings from argentina!

I rebuilt my ts185 & watched this throughout the full build.
Yes soak fiber clutch discs in same gearbox oil; overnight minimally is fine. Mystery "pin" & spring is the gear change detent. Holds the selector in each gear so to speak.

Good job as always kid, enjoy your beer!
I don't drink anymore not cause I can't but just isn't for me honestly I mostly just drink water anyway that beer looked mighty fine
Sell your beer maybe you can make a bunch of money???
Hey that's not a bad idea
Dude, you are seriously a legend.
Good video , remember to freeze the bearings in the freezer and heat the cases the bearings will drop in easy peasy.
I have a lot of mechanical experience. With that said I would be scared to attempt what you are doing. And your channel is inspiring. I’m proud of you for sending it! I'm restoring almost the same exact bike right now!
When i watched your last video i was like fucking hit that puller with a hammer! Hahaha and you ended getting it off. Good job.
Your oil drain bolt will be hollow and should have a spring and a pin that fit inside. If it's missing them that's we're those mystery parts u mention at 12:10 go

i believe you should soak the clutch plates in some engine oil i guess... but if your clutch setup is dry clutch,, thenn you shouldn't have to
I've always believed that if one is old enough to serve his country and die in war, one is old enough to responsibly enjoy an alcoholic beverage.
My heart dropped when I saw the stator still on the bhe brought out the pipe I cried
Soak the clutch discs in the oil you use in the crank case.
I cant believe you didnt take the gen off screws underneath 😂😂😂😂😂
Great series! I need crank seals for a 74 tc185. Where did you get your seals? Thanks
About the kickstart. I think there might be a smal locking skrew on the side where the threads are
You gotta fix it up real nice and sell it to make profit I wouldn't rely on TH-cam yet it takes alot of time you'll definitely get big some day I really enjoy your videos I'm sure alot more people will
I Have piston
Nice 👍. But what you gonna do about that case you broke?? Weld it?? Hopefully it not a section that holds oil!
yea if it’s a wet clutch setup like I’m assuming you gotta soak those plates in engine oil before putting them in
Honest mistake overlooking those screws under the coils. I have a 70 Yamaha two stroke and it has no lights, but a nearly identical stator to yours and it has all three coils, I'm wondering what the third one is for?
You definitely have done more than me and are probably more experienced, but get a rubber mallet please
The new name for this bike is the spider bike! Lol
Great job
Great work, love the vids!
chia! cheers!!

Hey gold guy any idea where to get a oil injection pump?
Have you checked eBay?
Like beer 😁
man I would not be able to put this back together.
I may not be able to either... 😂
Ive restored a tf185. The same bike just ag version. Did you need help with anything
That tf has more gears.
What year model did you do. I'm also busy with a TF185 that was in pieces when I got it. Would seek professional. To wire that
Just subscribed like an hour or two ago! What type of motorcycle do you ride?
Thanks for subscribing, welcome to the Gold Gang! I ride a 1981 Honda CB750 Cafe Racer, a 1981 Suzuki GS850 Scrambler and soon a 1977 Suzuki TS185 Dual Sport!
Your supposed to soak them in the oil you stick in the block for a couple of days
Cheers
Hey man, I also make videos, but I don't understand how do you keep uploading them, I just can't find the time to edit them, can you help me out
I just have to put A LoT of time into it, and never ever give up
Editing used to take me around 8 hours for one 12-20 minute video, my problem was that I couldn't finish it all at once so I split the editing up into a couple days which is okay but I have noticed it takes much less time if you just sit down and do it. Soak the clutch discs please! In some kind of oil

does anyone know if the suzuki ts 185 cc box can fit the suzuky ax 100?
can i buy your beer somewhere?
No not yet hahaha, it was just a small batch. Maybe some day I will sell it
Get a waikato drought up ya you'll be feeling farken minty as 💯💯
Changing that lower end bearing is tricky, got to take the crank apart. Get a mechanic to do it.
Did you need a case mate
In Switzerland you can drink bear with 16 year
That busted bearing is from the pistion bud .
Does the TS 185 have 2 bearings in the piston? I have worked on countless bikes and never have i seen a bike with 2 bearings in the piston.
@@supertedogpriken no only has one . I found out that one that was busted in half came from the trans .
man u really should work off a table my knees hurt just watching u ..good vids ,

It's like watching a gorilla strip an engine!
12:25 what are them seals called
im glad hes not doing my engine !
Looking at parts diagrams helps a lot when you are putting it together later on. They might have parts diagrams för the ts185 at cmsnl.com
first time huh?
Yes haha
Actually you need to oil a little the clutch dics before puttinf them into the carter. If you want, you can see a video to help you, they speak french, but this is well shown

Dude its not flywheel comon....
Flywheel is behind the cluch!!!
This one is ignition magnet or whatever you call in usa but not flywheel for sure
your definitely wrong its a flywheel for sure
spartan industries in your tiny mind yes sure it is :D
Im glad i dont live in the usa. Those parts would cost about a tenth of that in my country
motocyckle oil
Prediction: This engine is never going to run again. Now scrap...
