    I just ripped through this entire 2-stroke tear-down series an am looking forward to the rest of the build. ... I am wondering just how many of these special tools are absolutely necessary, for a home-mechanic (working on a private stable of sub-liter bikes). ... I guess that I can rent tools or go Harbor Freight, as major operations are less frequent, for a private livery.
    THANKS !!!!

    Hi I’m rebuilding a yz250, I replaced the bearings along with the bearing cap/seals and the crank as well. When I went to put the casing back together, it didn’t want to fully seet down. I ended up getting it about a quarter inch away from being fully flush but it won’t go the rest of the way down. When i tried putting a few screws in the block and lightly torquing them down to see if it would help, it caused the crank to freeze up and also made no difference in the gap in the block. Any ideas?

    Where can I buy that tool to press the cases together?

  • @pir869
    @pir869 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i'm going to split my 89' RM250 to get the crank rebuilt,water got in through the exhaust port and lay for a little while,i would expect the 2T oil to have coated all the bearings and thereby be no pitting etc,but i don't want to take a risk with this bike,
    so i bought the tusk case spliter and crank puller/installer tools,do i need the web support tool also as the crank is pretty much sucked into the bearing rather than pressed,i cant see how it would deform the crank true,any more than bliping the throttle or popping the clutch,i've never took the engine apart to the crank before,and have no problem about that,just whether i really need to support the web of the crank,as it looks as if the crank is under no compression from the puller tool.
    But then this is why i'm asking,as the dialogue in the video is confusing.
    Great series though.
    Thanks.

    My bike was smoking a lot fouling plugs and spoofing. I had a bad crank bearing so I split the engine to change it. I replaced both crank seals and the gasket. I accidently put the right seal in to far and had to pry it out to put it in the correct depth. The bike still smokes like a freight train. what do you think it is? I'm thinking I messed the seal up. but couldn't it be coolant also?

    • @pir869
      @pir869 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      coolant will produce steam,oil burning is very noticable,and very smelly,plus check to see if coolant is contaminated with oil,and if the oil has emulsified oil(light brown to white sludge) in the crank filler or breather,telling you a seal is leaking,check spark plug for oil fouling,wet with oil,greasy looking.
      I hope you got it fixed ,but if not try these clues out.
