      @@rock2k14 Oh, don't worry though! See, SE has been soooooo kind and thoughtful as to release remasters! On Mobile and Steam! Again! When they already have them! Isn't that just so kind of them!? Seriously though, I've seen so many people pissed off about that announcement. People have been wanting 1-6 on switch, PS4/5, and XBox for years. Instead, they release them where most people aren't going to buy them, if they already have the other versions... I wouldn't be surprised if they do badly, and then SE turns around and says "well, we HAD planned on releasing them on console. But because they did badly on Steam and Mobile, we figured it wouldn't be worth it." They did that with fans wanting a new Chrono game, so it wouldn't surprise me at all...

    This game shines the most on its skills, abilites and techniques you'll learn by grinding. I Used to master all as i remember.. like combining two abilities to unlock a special technique etc. e.g. Defend+lounge = defensive lounge then grinding that skill to unlock a special technique that utilizes that move.. Super fun

    This game was such a treasure on the ps1. I remember saving my character on my memory card and taking it to a friend's house to co-op, and discovering you learn each-other's weapon skills! The character's storylines were so much fun, and the soundtrack was phenomenal. Can't wait to go through this again.

      @@vhalrougelarfouxe Oh god yes. The game has quite a few feels. Pretty much the whole Liem chapter, Fyda and Royd's goodbye, the avalanche scene... and of course the ending, I also still get a bit teary eyed every time I see that ending and credit roll.
      It's rare I get emotional over video games, even games that are meant to be emotional, but man... kind of blows my mind a little how much that game hits you, considering how 'basic', for a lack of a better term, it really is.

  • @peacockfilletsteak
    @peacockfilletsteak 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Storywise, I've always thought of this game as "side-quests: the game". But those "side quests" are actually the whole point. You progress by engaging with the characters and taking part in the smaller stories. This allows you to further build the world and see more of the story. You don't even always do anything to progress a story segment, sometimes just happening to see it and be there. BUT your role as the main character is to rebuild the world and revive the mana tree in doing so. Each character with whatever struggle they're having is a part of that. So in essence, the side quests ARE the main quest. Once you get that in your mind, the game is much more enjoyable from a story perspective. It just doesn't play out like any RPG story you're used to, because it's really not all about your character! It's about everyone. You just happen to be the one putting it all together.

You can craft weapon, give seeds to the tree that will sprout out fruits, you can catch a monster. Also while the reviewer doesn't show it, you can actually use plethora of weapon types, from fists to heavy two handed hammer

    If you are planning to get the good ending on your first play through, make sure you do the guide. Because the placement of artifacts is a big thing. It has different items, and monsters. And also you need to talk to all people at least three times. Otherwise, it is an amazing game.

    Once you get deep in the weapons of this game, its starts to feel like monster hunter with interesting combos and techniques. My friend and I would spend hours playing co-op and to this day, was one of the best gaming memories (outside of arcades) that i have had. No stress, no competition just playing game for the sake of playing a game and sharing an experience. So glad it is back.

    This was the first game I ever played on a console. I loved it so much and I fully agree, the soundtrack is amazing. You can see that there is much care put into the design. It's lovely. Funny you say that the story can be in the background.. For me this wasn't the case. The story was very much vivid and I was so involved. But this is back then. At 4:35 you can see the quest title changed "7 wisdoms" to "The Pursuit of Wisdoms" due to the confusion that there are only 6 wisdoms that can be interacted and needed to do the quest. The 7th being Matilda which is revealed later in the game.

  • @elleCX01
    @elleCX01 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The game just felt like one sidequest after another to me. Was a bit off-putting at first, but the world and music were so good that I really didn't mind. Also, the characters and all their little quirks are so memorable. The battle system feels pretty clunky. I ended up using the downward diagonal (directional input) rising attack all the time since it had almost instant recovery.

      They are in the process of making a skyrim port for the only thing on earth that doesn't have skyrim yet, toasters. And as you would expect, is stuck there, not because toasters can't run skyrim, but because toasters have no internet for microtransactions. After that, maybe you'll get your morrowind on switch.

    Will definitely be grabbing it. Back in my childhood this game was so rare. We had to scour for two copies of it as the first one we grabbed froze at boot up and the second one froze shortly after. So we'd use copy #2 to start the game and switch the disk after getting in game. I've beaten it, but not with a 100% clear. If you consider when it came out the game was a masterpiece. Also you can play as a second character, not just a pet. If I remember... you just need to make a second save file and an npc in the first town "pretty sure you have a quest to find him really early on" allows you to import the other players character into the game.

      Ah, ok thanks. I had no way of testing the multiplayer unfortunately.

    never played the og ps1 version was that co-op accessable? what I really like is the visuals in the og ps1 version, this one seemed thwfe is a filter over the game and I miss a bit the crisp pixelated look😃

    There are quite a few visually appealing games that have been releasing lately. I think my Wish List has room for another JRPG.

    I've spent more of a hundred hours playing this game. Grinding my ass off, farming money, buying materials, forging weapons, experimenting Golems, and raising my monsters pet, unlocking everygoddamn moves, mastering all the weapon fighting styles, Damn this game contents are insane!
    I remember felt so fucked when i accidentaly ereased my save data and lost all my shit ... 🤣😭😵
    As a non linear RPG, this is undountedly a hidden gem! And they reviving this game? Hotdamn! Nintendo, you are amazing!
    Waiting for Chrono Trigger and Xenogears remaster ...

    I honestly have too many jrpg's in my backlog haha. Might play this if I ever clear those, but the innovate choices with the artifacts honestly don't speak to me that much. Cool for the fans of the series though :D cheers as always lads!

    Ohh. The memories.. wrecking the mobs in Nightmare mode alongside L'arc and me spamming my OP magic on the side..
    Unlocking all the Supermove for each weapon is a blast also my favorite is Bow and it's ultra powerful Laser Beam. 😁

    This has been my absolute favorite game ever. My uncle randomly picked it up for me at a random pawn shop. Wrapped in a napkin for a dollar. I was like 9. I’m 29 now and still hooked! So excited for this remaster! Too bad we don’t get a physical copy in the US 😭😭😭

    It is worth noting that the game seems to lag/dip in frame rate after defeating monsters in battle which can be a bit jarring and take me out of the immersion. Also they didn't patch the original bug on PS1 US version where weapons quick attack stats are switched with heavy attack stats. The translation for some Stat boosting items was incorrect on the US ps1 version and they didn't fix that either. Its a shame that square didn't fix these issues but other than that this is an amazing game.

    The only difference i see is the font change for text. Is there a better description for items when you forge and temper stuff? No. If only they remade the game in octopath traveler style or something similar. I'll stick to psx emulator to play this.

    I love everything about the mana series except for the battle system. When I heard it was getting remastered, I was crossing my fingers so they would remove the loooooong startup for battle techniques. The worst thing was waiting to fill up your gauge only to miss because the enemy moved about 30 seconds ago when you first started the tech. Other than that small thing, this game was amazing. Music, art and story.

    Which console version should i choose? PS4 version on PS5 or switch version? Any different in graphic quality?

    • @yoso378
      @yoso378 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't seem like there's a difference in the two versions. I have it on switch and it runs perfectly fine. The only real deciding factor is whether or not you will get mileage out of having handheld mode as an option.

    Best game I ever played on PS1.
    The thing I like the most here is that there are tons of equipment you can choose from and each equipment type has its own set of skills. You can also learn all the skills in one playthrough.
    I've been searching for a game that is similar to this, and haven't found any so far.
