I've been waiting for this. I haven't pre-ordered games in a long time, and I bit the bullet and did so for this one, while knowing almost nothing for it and it's been awhile since I've been so hyped for a game. I really can't wait and glad to see it's as good as its been hyped to be.
I'm so happy to hear that this game turned out well. It has been on my radar for quite a while, mostly due to the beautiful art style. With the rest of the package sounding on par with the visuals, I'm sold!

For those who don't know, the saving system actually came from a meme (a screen grab of a comment) The context was, somebody posted a question asking why you would open the refrigerator even though you're not going to take anything. One cheeky commenter said that its because you're trying to save your progress and this was a real life checkpoint.

Awesome! I was expecting this videos later in the week and not only it released today but also speaks wonderfully about the game! I don't think I've been disappointed in a game published by Chucklefish. Stardew Valley, Wargroove, and Starbound are all my favorite games. Starbound is the only one not on consoles or Switch yet....
The way you described it made me think of Horace in the way each element exceeded my expectations to come together to make a true classic. Chuffed to bits that the quality I'd hoped for is clearly here and the high anticipation was warranted!
Is it really like Horace? I played that one for about an hour and a half and it just didn't do it for me. Not saying it was a bad game, but the tiny snippets of gameplay bookending the almost visual novel-esque amounts of narrative almost felt like they were included out of a sense of obligation. I tend to prefer it the other way around. I can deal with more story than in your average Zelda game, but Horace simply bored me.
damn, i didnt like this game at all, was waiting for it since it was announced back in 2019 or something. it is beautiful but that's it. the combat is repetitive, the puzzles are boring, and the storytelling is not the worst but so much of it is just walking around doing pointless quests.. had the feeling it would be somehow like earthbound but it isnt anyway, if you played it and like it i guess thats it, good for you :)
Man, this week I bought Deathloop, Psychonauts 2 and now I just bought Eastward on top of that because of your review guys. All amazing games so far but this came at a cost (rip backlog)

I couldn't finish it. There was so much 'faff'. The combat was boring and far too easy, and although the story was really interesting - There was just so damn much dialogue, it felt like I was reading a script instead of playing a game.

Was waiting for this review... after the sad day with Baldo's release, hoping for good things from this one and a maybe a patch for Baldo. 😅 After watching: So an overall 19, with 30+hrs, very nice. and this is why I will always champion indie games, the potential for something great is always there, people please go buy this. they do have a physical edition coming out through play asia but I do wish they had a local physical edition.

You guys have always been honest BUT my question is, when debs send you finished products and they aren't up to scratch, and then honest about it, what do they say to you? Are they mad, upset, understanding or pleased with the feedback? idk how useful this is as a comment on a 2 year old review, but eastward Does have fast travel - at least once you're in the games "main city" - not sure about before that. It's easy to miss because the game never tells you, but it is accessible via the map which is almost essential for the pacing in that section. It can definitely drag without it
Physical copies produced and distributed would probably raise up the price. I mean, the game is only 25 bucks. I could be wrong...Anyway, I would love to see a physical copy of this or any game that's under $30--most expensive games tend to have both. Physical copies FTW if you can get them. Only reason I often buy digital is for convenience and when there's like a 75% off sale. It's often the case, a game will have a limited sale that only applies to the digital version of the game. For this reason, I rarely get digital versions at full price. I mean, with a physical copy, you can just play it and sell it (used) or gift it to a friend or relative. Really is a shame that there isn't a physical copy though. I'd love to know if it's a cost thing or just an oversight.
