There are 3 "different story line/bunch of antagonists and final boss". For having the most story element I recommand to play like this (Angela with Duran), (Charlotte with Kevin), (Riesz with Hawkeye's). The third character that you choose is the less important.

Reisz is me favorite so far so I wanted to main her, but I also want Angela for get spells, and her story seems pretty interesting as well. Charlotte annoys me, and Kevin and his story seem pretty whatever, so I was gonna go with Duran and his light path for healing and support. But it seems like I will miss out on some story if I do that. Tough choice…

Important note 2: Players can choose either English or Japanese voice overs. Again, something that should have been mentioned in this review. Also, I love all the sound tracks. Its something I’ve enjoyed and has stayed with me all these years ever since I played the SFC version back in the days. So, I don’t understand why the review said that the music isn’t something people will sought out after playing.

I was surprised by how much I loved the demo. For some reason I really liked the visuals and simple combat! I think I'm gonna get the full game!

@@major_s9 Not really. If certain anime fans had their way; we'd still be living in the trapped and limited 'world' of isometric 2D or side-scrolling gaming.
Gaming should have evolved in full 3D.
As should it's main elements such as combat, physics, general gameplay etc.
You see how this works?
Certain things are simply required if you want to progress in Quality factor of life.
You (subjectively) *can choose to ignore them* - this is true.
But to say ''there is no should'' is a false paradigm - because certain people *have* made gaming evolve into this mode of 3D / combat. And that's why you're seeing it right here
@@netweed09 No, there still is no "should." I enjoy action based games more, but I'm not gonna be a snob and pretend like value in gaming(or art) is derived from advancement alone. And being a fan of classic styles of play, does not harm the enjoyment of anyone who doesn't.

Played SD3 back on the snes/famicom and absolutely loved it, can't wait for this remake!
If this goes well, we might finally be able to get the Legend of Mana Remaster/Remake we've been asking for.

Um… the music is AMAZING and completely memorable. I sought it out multiple times without having played the game, and it was so smart to give the option to use the original SNES soundtrack and the truly artful updated version.
The combat reminds me of Kingdom Hearts. I downloaded the demo and got suuuuuuper into it. Bought it yesterday lol

Damn, so looking forward to tomorrow. When the demo came out and played it for two hour, I pre-ordered immediately. Artwork, gameplay and story seems very well blends together giving a great experience.

How does it work in portable mode when it comes to on-screen information? Watching this review I had a feeling texts are barely readable in handheld mode.

Should i play trials of mana on switch or steam?
For some reason the Switch Version Trailer was shown in 60. The PS4 Version is also 60.
I also found out that Riesz's voice was ruined in the English Dub. You can check out my Video "My Response to Riesz's Dub voice from Trials Of Mana (New)". She's my favorite since the original!
The Graphics isn't THAT bad.

I just started my let’s play on this game on my channel but I’m playing on the PS4. I have no background knowledge AT ALL but it’s definitely been fun so far (the overacting in cut scenes has me dying so I like them actually) 😂🔥🔥🔥

I too, used to be whiny about jrpgs that were easier than sin to complete. You'll learn.
Definitely worth the purchase. Never played the original (only saw a few gameplay) but it's really amazing how SE remade this game. Definitely one of my favorite Mana game so far alongside Legend of Mana, which still holds as one of my all time favorite JRPG
there is everything in this game everything customization, different weapons and skills and magic spells it so awesome I love this game.

Advanced raw graphics vs Advance Hardware Format
The muddy textures, pop in and especially texture loading seems to be a SquareEnix Issue with UE4. The same issues can be seen in FF7R. That's not a problem with the game, there is some bigger issue at SquareEnix behind that.

I'm so glad this game is getting attention instead of getting glossed over like most other classic JRPG these days.
i completed all 6 heroes storyline back in the original series but that's because you couldn't respec your build. you are stuck with one of the 4 roles. in 2020, they gave you a 4th class and allow you to change class path so replay value is less. new age gamers don't like to replay often. i enjoy this game a lot but this game got too easy after you got several abilities. even on Hard mode, things just die under 20s. that's my only problem. they really should have an Expert mode with much harder enemy AI.
My issue with these games is when you find new armor, there is no change to your appearance. Or am I wrong? Haven’t played it but a lot of these games are like that. Guess I’m just spoiled from playing the elder scrolls series lol

Yes, the Eng dub is pretty bad with Kevin being horrific. It's like the voice actor had trouble reading.
All reviews for trials of mana are 8/10 it gives really good feelings about the game, but thing is no side quests instead of keep running to main quests you could side quests also wish if it had coop like online that could be more fun, I am buying it I have played the demo, this game is repetitive game defeat and reload and defeat again

The music and some muddy graphics were the only things I didn’t enjoy about the DEMO
It's strange because seeing the originals I feel the developers were stuck between keeping fully faithful and sacrificing the graphics to not look like the ''Toy-like photo realistic texture-mapped'' models of say, DQ.
So, a bit of a mix with the graphics but I love the laid back and charming style.
Some music themes are really nice, I dunno I'm certainly no hardcore Mana fans but I did pick up the original to give it a go and enjoyed it.
So seeing all this 25 years on is pretty amazing for me - I get a real feel of the original yet it feels like this was so how it was all meant to be.
I guess this version just clicked with me =)

This remake is more than i would ever imagine. STILL, why the hell not even a local multiplayer? This is such a thorn in an otherwise awesome remake. Would be a perfect score for me if not for that.

I know you said local but still, single player games are few too many and a lot of people, especially myself, don't like dealing with fuckin idiots we don't know. I wanted multiplayer with friends specifically, that's how i aways played seiken densetsu 3, me and a couple of friends were bummed out we would be playing this separately this time. Also, this game aways has at most 3 playable characters at any time. If would play with strangers, theres not much they can do to ruin your experience. Im not very good at multiplayer shooters, or any multiplayer competitive game for that matter, i dont play much of them, which explains it.
Now that you mention it. Could be cool to meet some new mana fans. But of course im very happy with what we got, the game still awesome as single player and *_i recon that most people played the snes one and will play this single player only anyways,_* my experiences with friends are particular to me and most dont share it. I know you're sick and tired of toxic players online but seriously, calm down, man.

I have a 100% completion on the PS4 but, this game is great on any platform! I had to get the Switch version :)

My only real issue comes with the bosses and how the original had them be a lot more detailed and interesting, I just kind of think some look a little too simplistic for the newer versions.

The amount of loading screens really killed this game for me (Nintendo Switch). 6 loading screens to change classes?1?! At 10-15 seconds a piece it adds up and just kills the flow of the game and ruined it for me.
They finally give us this gem in America. But where is our MOTHER 3 ??!! 😭

I’m a diehard BotW/xenoblade fan and a hardcore 90s gamer and I’m super ok with completely changing the original to keep up with the expectations of a 2020 gamer. This looks like a winner to me (or as close as we’ll get any time soon) Thank you for posting!
The person who wrote this review clearly didn't play beyond the surface level. I won't get into too much specifics, but both Duran and Angela have not only a tied story, but the entire motif of their story is similar as well. Their story follows the motif of "familial expectations and legacy". While it is about saving the world, it returns to more personal roots toward the end of the game. It's almost as if the game was written this way on purpose to have subtlety to its storytelling.
Maybe I missed it in the video, but where did it indicate in any way that Duran and Angela didn't share a story path?

Completely different styles. I enjoy DQ more. Over 200 hours gameplay, I can't see the same for Mana 😊😊
No. DQXI is a fantastic 100+ hour turn based RPG, and it’s amazing.

It sounds like you haven't played Seiken Densetsu 3 before. Look it up, Seiken Densetsu 3 is one of the best games of its time.
So i guess, what you'll need to think about now is based on this review do you think the remake did a decent job.
I've already bought it though, downloading right now. I've always wanted to play Secret of Mana but couldn't really get into it via emulator. $70AUD is a bit hard to swallow but, I'm determined to play at least one of the Secret of Mana games, lol.
Played the demo, the framerate is dogshit sometimes, frametimes are all over the shop, input lag on moving the camera is horrible and makes it feel sluggish. What a shame :(

Played this on both PS4 and Switch. Not that noticeable of a difference and you are definitely over exaggerating. And yes I will be getting this on the Switch due to its portability.

Any special reason for not picking the normal one? I think you might regret it later on the line, but if you're sure you will never use docked mode then go ahead, its not a bad product.
For me, the best game from nintendo switch is xenoblade chronicles 2, and on portable mode its not that great, its much better docked.
My brother had two switches. One for him and one for his wife. He almost exclusively plays portable and ended up selling his switch and getting a lite. If he wants to play something like smash bros with others he just uses his wife's. He says the lite is much more comfortable to hold. If playing on the TV isnt a concern the lite definitely has it's own unique pros plus a lower price.
In my opinion the lite looks and feels better. It’s lighter, a bit more battery life, sharper display and i don’t need to play Pokémon etc on my 60“ tv and it’s 100€ less soooo...
@@projectdaaltaran guys, do you have tiny hands or something? Even the big switch is too small for me. I had to buy the split pad pro before my joy cons went to oblivion. Thats the perfect size for me. I guess my hand is not average? Like i said, it depends, i play everything in dock, like everything. I even have 2 docks, so yeah. I just don't play in docked mode the games that don't benefit. Like Animal Crossing or Octopath traveler.
Also, big note, if you have a good tv, not an insanely expensive one, just one with a really new processor it does wonders with the chip, the frames and the anti aliasing. Like really. I got the entry model, the q60r for the quantum dot lineup and the game mode is insane. It brings the switch up a lot.
@@Gomi422 nope, you wrong. The new refreshed switch has the most battery life of all the 3. The normal one.
Keep in mind guys, this comment was made on an rpg, this person is probably gonna play xenoblade chronicles definitive edition and xenoblade chronicles 2, and those 2 look really awful in portable mode.
Also, switch lite doesn't have versatility. Like i said, my switch has the split pad pro from hori and its insanely comfortable, i could never go back to normal joy cons. They are too small.
Also, if any joystick breaks on the lite you can't change it or anything, you have to fix the main console.
Finally, and like i said, i see no point in not taking advantage of your big beefy tvs. When you get the skull&co dock and have a portable dock, or even when you shrink down a normal one, you can take it with you everywhere and just plug the switch. For me its perfect

Judging from footage from this video, combat definitely takes heavy "inspiration" from ffxiv.
I've been training for the last five years for this moment.
I just started it and I like the design, the battle system, etc. What I think is a bit poor is the emotional aspect. Characters are just not credible at showing emotions. For example, Duran's arc starts with the Crimson Wizard killing many guards in his castle, but you just don't feel his sadness or his anger. Same when his childhood is narrated, you don't feel the sadness when the king comes back to tell Duran's mother her husband disappeared. Same when Angela learns her mother wants to use her as a sacrifice, it's not dramatic.
100% agreed. No emotional connections. Makes the game seem dry and boring imo 🤷🏻♂️

I believe so. I played the original ToM and there was no direct connection(that I noticed) to another Mana game.

Honestly, the game demo was great, but, if you have a pc, its just gonna look better. I prefer that. Switch version is still great tho, for portability. But the character models are significantly better on any other system. If you have either pc, ps4 pro or xbox one x pick the game on one of those.
With that away, i really liked the game, and i think its a better aproach to classic rpgs rathen than dragon quest, since i don't personally like that artistic style.
I was going to get the switch version if just to have a physical copy, but I recently upgraded my pc for 144fps gaming soooo yeah....
I love me physical versions, but that one upside comes with far too many large downsides.

DrakE (original) at first I don’t like the DQ11 art style. But that changes quickly. Something about that game just drew me right in. Then again I’m playing Star Ocean first departure r on switch and that game drew me in as well and some say it sucks. But DQ11 and 8 are both so good

I have trails of mana game and while I do like the graphics and gameplay, I will agree with Nintendo Life guy, it's not as emotional connecting and thought provoking. It makes me want to replay my Tales of Series instead lol. I want the Tales of Arise please!

Tried the demo on my ps4. Unfortunately, my ps4 flew away before the opening scene was over.. So, yeah.. The graphics may be better on ps4 than on Switch, but is it worth it if your ps4 is going to melt while playing?

Oh my word; after over 25 whole Years, a version is here that pays proper homage to all the action-spirited roots of the original. And of course, in full glorious 3D, none of the indie top-down, 2.5D scam!
For me, this surpasses the classic Secret of Mana on the SNES, being the refined equivalent for this modern day and age on the Switch.
The proper combat is so much better than chess borefests like Fire Emblem!
If Breath2 is delayed beyond this Year and Nintendo cannot produce another AAA title, this should be GOTY; imo it's good enough

Dunno where you are, but at least in the US Amazon and other places still have micro SD cards reasonably readily available.
Buy an sd card. From 256gb to 400gb at least.
@@Matpermad I got a 64gig for chrismas. It costed my sister like 60$ canadian dollar. Those thing are ridiculously expensive here. Im not doubling the price of my Switch just to have a decent storage. I prefer to go full physical. Im collecting the boxes aniway. I cant do that during containment. I got ff7 remake digitaly cause the ps4 has 500gig.

For me, i got collection out of blind loyalty to the mana franchise. Until i played the demo, tom remake was on a maybe leaning towards no due to how secret of mana's remake turned out.

The multi-thread story actually disappointed in the demo at least, very shallow. And the SP progression seemed simple enough, but the more in-depth (e.g. chain attack) systems were left a mystery and given no tutorial. Running animations felt stiff or slow at times (different from looking stiff or slow, they looked like the opposite actually, thus the criticism). The lack of different special moves or spells was weird, but I imagine it becomes satisfying to unlock more moves as you go. High points for me were the seamlessness of exploration and combat and the outstanding music. Overall, not gonna buy this one, but I see potential and I hope I can get into the Mana series in some other way in the future.
I love how the author talks like people have not been playing this on Emulators since the early 2000's.

More like an 8.5/10 if they were using the decimals. It's still a great game but after seeing what the con was from the written the score does make sense. The con was about a graphical issue where certain textures were longer to pop into view in the world. That issue is comparable to the loading that Pokemon Sword and Shield have with the Wild Area.

Verto4321 it is easy even on hard but I’ve noticed as I go a bit further in, I’m level 10 atm, but enemies are killing me but I do have to use items to keep up my hp. It’s just they give you so many items there’s no need to buy any and you probably won’t run out so it’s easy
