Serial Killer's Confession | The Case of Darren Deon Vann

  • Today’s case takes us to a series of gruesome murders that were committed over a period of just one year. We’re not talking 2 or 3 murders. We’re talking about 7 innocent lives taken away ruthlessly by a monster. Who was he? Why did he kill so many women? Is it really 7, or is there more to this case than he’s willing to reveal?
    Let’s go to the focal point of these crimes - Gary, Indiana.
    Gary is a city in Indiana that was known for its industrial activity in the past. Being a steel hub back in the day, the city saw rapid growth with a diverse population but this quickly changed in the 1960s because of the growing overseas competition in the steel industry. Today, Gary’s population stands at only 69,000 and the place isn’t known for much except the endless rows of abandoned houses and murders. It earned a not-so-brag-worthy name, the “murder capital” of America in the early 90s.
    Why is this information relevant to today’s case? We’re about to find out because this is the place where everything was about to go horribly wrong.
    Welcome or welcome back to Twisted Minds, my name is James, and today we’re going to be delving deep into the case of Darren Deon Vann.

    Abandoned houses, lack of detectives and police officers caring. So many women missing and they did nothing!! Had these women came from wealthy families and they weren't involved in the things they were doing is the main reason why they didn't care. Let's be honest crimes against certain women are always ignored or put at the bottom of their list and concerns to find them.

    • @unicornglitterfart5201

      It has nothing to do with certain types of women being the victims. Cops don't leave the safety of the station or their cars unless they have to. Brazilian favelas are safer than Gary, IN. This is a terrible place and it's well known that if you're on the streets, especially after dark, you're taking a serious risk. They are lucky to have the police force that they do because nobody wants to be there. I have loved ones who still live there and when I come back home, I will only see them outside of the city. Cops will tell you to leave if you aren't a local because it's so dangerous and will happily escort you out of town to ensure your safety. Coming to a full stop at lights and stop signs? You're better off playing Russian roulette. That place needs to be wiped off the map and that's what the government is allowing to happen. We've tried to revive the area several times but the psychos who saturate the city make it impossible. They will destroy any business that tries to open and murder is a favorite pastime there. It's better to just back off and let the city die off naturally because nobody is moving there. Houses are being sold by the city for $1, under the condition that the new owner makes it habitable within a certain timeframe. Wanna guess how many people are taking advantage of this? None. Gary is a lost cause. I am not a fan of victim blaming, however if you're working the streets, especially at night, in that city it's well known something bad will eventually befall you. There are some things you just don't do: get as close as possible to a wild mama bear and her cubs in order to get better pics, cross a street without looking both ways, and fuck around after dark in Gary, IN. Millions have been thrown at the city to help but the residents seem determined to sit in the stink of it all and keep it as is. At this point all the cops can do is keep the violence contained within the city and keep outsiders from wandering in to become victims. Many of the residents have family who have moved to other areas of Indiana and are willing to help those left behind get out but they don't wanna leave. It's a strange dynamic.

    • @ahnraemenkhera7451

      I agree, in that I’ve never heard of it. AND at the time it occurred, I still had cable TV! So there was virtually no national coverage to speak of re: the investigation nor the “trial.”
      Viewing this 7-8 years later-with no details about what happened in Illinois-just gives me the impression of some cover-up, now being trotted-out to portray “equal” pathology, which is always something I look at as Deception.
      Even though Vann confesses to other states involved, no follow-up is being mentioned nationally, either.
      The openly-public discreditation of the FBI (which COULD have had jurisdiction in these various states) is another contradiction that points to conflicted interests, if any, in seeing any type of justice being practicably done, in these specific cases.
      Because imagine the coverage & the follow-up in 2015, if the majority of victims had mattered materially.

      Just to ratify what @downtown said, Bundy escaped-twice. The legal arm is clearly indifferent to these cases in Indiana, or by now, he’d be nearly 1/3rd as infamous as “Ted.”
      But since he pled-out, he was summarily sentenced. No jury to blame-even IF they empaneled one for that 1 day the case was heard.
      The judge & the prosecution gave him a virtual pass on the 5 others. Vann’s still ‘eligible’ to face charges in other states, which apparently, aren’t even looking at him. If Texas doesn’t think he’s dangerous, who really does?

      I live in Chicago and had to do jury duty for a murderer, even got sequestered for a couple nights at a hotel..the things I saw during that were messed up they don't hold back the gore. Be lucky you didnt have to go but I did get to see behind the scenes of a trial and I hope to God I never have to be in trial. It would blow your mind how easy your "peers" will throw your life away with a guilty verdict because they are tired and bored and want to go home or have to get back to work...absolutely no conclusion drawn from evidence..only uncomfort

      @ahnraemenkhera7451 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shaggysstonedagain1218 These city-concepts are overtaxed logistically. Rather than simply admitting it, they fall-back on old tropes & methods said to “work.” Maybe they did once, but in certain places, I seriously doubt it.
      The Nonwhite, the underprivileged, the disadvantaged don’t face “peers,” nor their accusers. By systemic design. They have no real advocacy, no judicial access, no resources to give them any measure of “parity” in a trial process, if accused. It’s really a done deal before it even gets off the ground. Only those with money can pay for “justice,” and the jury’s not a peer group. They’re registered voters. No more the peers of accused persons than Marie Antoinette stood a trial of her peers.
      It’s ALMOST laughable, until you view statistical data, newspaper chronicles, charts, & historical records SHOWING how these numbers tell. WHO gets incarcerated, who fills prisons, who benefits economically by the use of mass prisoners’ time & energy, who NEVER gets punished, who gains the Most.

You can't come to a full stop at lights and stop signs or you'll become a victim of a crime. Cops warn people to stay away from the city because it's so bad. The destitution there is unbelievable and it leads to an unusual dynamic. The favelas of Brazil are safer than Gary. I grew up next to Gary and have loved ones who still live there. If they wanna hang out with me when I come back home, it has to be outside of the city. The only people brave enough to be out on the streets after dark are the prostitutes and the ones looking to break the law. People are shocked by Vann and his crimes, especially when it occurs in BFE Indiana, but most of us from the area are surprised it doesn't happen in Gary more often. The reporters who covered this crime on-scene? There were arguments over who was going to cover it, but not in the typical fashion. The ones who ended up with the assignment drew the short straw.

    • @itarry4
      @itarry4 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on what his confession was actually like. If no matter how much they pushed the only thing he'd say was that he'd killed others there'd be very little they could do with that information and there's a possibility it's a lie anyway unless he's willing to give actual details, especially after he gave so much detail for the 7. 8t seems lazy and if they truly did absolutely nothing then it was but if by confess they mean he'd only say he'd killed others and no detail at all then it's very possible he's lying to confuse, amuse himself with them chasing tails, etc. I'd imagine they pushed for details and checked for murders similar in the places he was known to have been but there's little else they can do on just the man's unspecific confession.

They'd have pushed for details when he said it they wouldn't say they were investigating with just that but I'm sure they'd have done it. Death penalty all the way. The only reasons for the plea deal is to save the cost of a trial, and to spare the families the pain and suffering going through a trial would mean.
      The public doesn't need to bear the expense of housing these monsters indefinitely just because of a plea deal. I have to admit that I'm a bit "old school" regarding my beliefs in the death penalty. I don't think it is applied for nearly enough violent crimes, it isn't applied in a timely manner, and it doesn't fit the violence of the crimes. My belief is that ANY violent crime should be eligible for the death penalty, you get one appeal and if the appeal is denied, the offender is immediately marched to a gallows, because rope is cheap and reusable.

    Let me tell everyone a little bit about Gary, IN. The police are too afraid to leave the safety of the station or their cars. The golden rule, per the officers, is to never fully stop at a stop sign or light unless absolutely necessary or else you're gonna become a victim of some sort of crime. If you're lucky, it'll simply be a carjacking without violence. If you look like you aren't a local, the cops will advise you to leave immediately and will happily escort you out of town for your safety. I grew up very close to Gary and I refuse to visit loved ones who still live there. They have to come to me if they wanna see me. It's a terrible place where every time you leave your house, even just to go to work or get groceries, you may not make it back home. I've been all around the world and been in some of the most dangerous places, and I feel more at ease in the favelas of Brazil than I do in Gary. Anytime I meet someone from there I'm immediately on edge because there is an excellent chance they aren't one of the innocent residents stuck there but rather one of the violent criminals for whom human life is worthless. The ratio of decent folks to the nutjobs is the opposite of what you'll find everywhere else.

      Because he confessed. It use to boggle my brain how they can give people like this plea deals. Studied it and found the protection, DA and defense would rather come up with a plea deal and confession THEN TO LOSE THE CASE. Meaning both sides win instead of one 😡 victims lose!

      @@ionkno1893 That's exactly true. It comes from a political aspect. Justice is mostly a tool used in cases where there's multiple crimes and insufficient physical evidence. Confessions and description are just anecdotal and basically just circumstantial. Take into account the poor, decrepit area; the lack of police attention and the view of the people who were being attacked (The Less Desirable). Please are how you catch large organizations and also how you flag and charge smaller, more brutal criminals. They can also be used as tactics to manipulate the narcissistic perpetrators and allow them to divulge more information.

      Weak justice. He should be executed just like any psychopath who kills.

    I think you should revise your understanding of the term "psychotic". Psychosis is not the same as psychopathy.

      In the 50s and 60s Gary was THE place to live. All of the upper echelon lived there...in "mansions" on Ridge Rd. They were the executives from the steel mills. I remember my grandparents telling me stories of being invited to dinner at one of those houses, and they felt so honored. It's so unfortunate how it's changed. Many good people still reside there, including my great aunt. It saddens me that tragedies like this get "overlooked." Thank you for the insightful video!

    Isn’t this the same town that had the ‘demon house’ that Zac Baggins bought and then pulled down?

    Grew up in Chicago, now live near Gary. These banks own these houses and only care when it’s time to sell the properties. They need to be held accountable for all the abandoned houses they still own. Yearly or monthly checkups. And if they’re not owned by a bank, the city itself needs to be held accountable because the amount of crime that goes on in cities like this with the amount of abandoned houses is higher than the news reports.

    Great video!!! The way you told the story was interesting to watch. Ever thought about the entertainment business??? LOL. Anyway you asked if anyone thought he was a psychopath. Heck yeah!!! They're good at acting like a real human being. I used to know one. So yes I think that the wife didn't know. Like I said they're good at acting. 👍✌

    It's the police/authorities who gave him the freedom to murder more.
    They seem not to be just useless but also a material (of murder) in this case..
