  • This model of vehicle has been in infamy since OJ Simpson drove his around LA in 1994. While this is NOT the vehicle OJ owned, it is the same year and model. The CAR WIZARD 🧙‍♂️ gives this SUV, owned by Hoovie, his usual inspection and repair history.

I like the trucks from the late 70’s to the mid 90’s. They were simple, reliable and easy to work on. You didn’t need to take it in for a tuneup, you could do it yourself. I had an 88 Sierra with the 5.7L and the only computer was an old school PROM hidden in the glove box. It had a lot of power too. A buddy offered me 2k for it back in 2005, and he still owns it and is his daily driver. I wish trucks were still built like this. Hoovie’s Bronco looks great. I hope he holds on to it for awhile.

@Jonathan McCully I hear that. And you could actually park them in a regular parking spot in a parking lot at the local supermarket. Today, with a new truck you have to park them in the back forty with the other new trucks because they’re so wide. My neighbour across the street bought a brand new Ford F350 for his business and he told me it’s a great truck for his needs, but parking it is the biggest pain in the ass he’s ever encountered. Beautiful truck, but it doesn’t need to be six feet wide.

The White Ford Bronco in the 35mph chase was owned by Al Cowlings not OJ. OJ did own a White Ford Bronco but on the day of the slow speed chase, he couldn't have drivn his because it was impounded with lots of blood stains all over and inside of it. When OJ was exonerated, he could have gotten it back but just requested the police destroy the truck. So OJ's Bronco was crushed and AJ's bronco is on display at Alcatraz East Crime Museum.

My childhood vehicle and favorite of all time, specifically the black and tan Eddie Bauer edition. My parents hated it, kinda funny. It blew out at least 3 starter motors, brakes needed replaced constantly and overheated going down the mountain once leaving us without brakes and it overheated the transmission while towing a dingy sending fluid all over the road just because overdrive wasn’t turned off. My parents refused to take the roof of because “it may leak forever after that”. Lol.

Parts can be a real pain to locate for it, but I have found sources to get what I need. I traded my old 2004 Silverado for it and this Nissan is clean with only 128k miles on it with no rust. Its an 1985 King Cab 4x4. Only thing I need to do to it is replace the CV Axles from the boots cracking and fix the A/C which is a relay or resistor and that turned out to be a pain to find.

I spent a lot of time with Bronco model years 1986, 90, 91, 93-95. Final generation was my favorite. The Border Patrol had them. The Old Patrol spoke fondly of the Ramchargers, but by 1990, all of them were beat to death and finally going bye-bye.The Fords with IFS would travel over terrain faster. Operated in the San Diego area, they got beat to he**. All the Broncos had EFI 302s and AODs. The 86s got the mufflers replaced with glass packs as the stock pieces fell off. Front hubs seemed to get burned out and not realized until the operator had driven about 10 feet onto the beach. The later XLTs had auto locking hubs. The stock versions weren’t the most capable 4x4s - weren’t the worst either, but they were roomy and comfortable. Broncos that were used hard over rough terrain suffered cracks in the cowl and floor board areas from excessive body flex. The XLTs that came on the line in 1994, however, got Rancho suspensions, which made a huge difference. The electric rear window motors didn’t hold very well to daily exposure to excessive dust. A beat to death 86 would still be running its original motor and (very loose) trans when it was ready to be surplussed. Can’t say that about another manufacturer’s utilities also in the fleet around that time. I found a 95 XLT 5.8 a few years back that only had about 15K miles. It had been sitting for the most part since it was a year old and already had some problems with interior pieces and the power mirrors didn’t work. We couldn’t come to an agreement on price or I’d have bought it.

According to CBS and Wikipedia: “In 1994, Cowlings's 1993 Ford Bronco from the low-speed chase was purchased by Simpson's former sports agent Mike Gilbert and two other men, then ended up sitting in a parking garage for the next 17 years (1995-2012), where it was rarely used. As of 2017, the vehicle was on loan to the Alcatraz East Crime Museum, where it was put on display as part of an exhibit on the murder trial.”

I had one with the same engine. If the wind was blowing against the traffic flow it couldn’t make it from L.A. to Vegas without needing gas. Every other car I’ve had could make it to Vegas and return on a single tank. It also had trouble going up the ‘Baker grade’ which is a fairly gentle uphill section of road. It did however have the best turning radius of any vehicle I’ve ever driven. It could easily turn around and head the other way on two lane roads.

They have their place. I like them on older vehicles that see a lot of off road use. I'm a big fan of them on the old Fords with I beam suspension. It stiffens everything up and improves road feel. I would agree they are unnecessary in most applications.

Car Wizard I noticed the torque converter clutch does not operate correctly on Tyler‘s video. A very common problem with E4OD’s of that vintage. At hwy speeds it should lock to 2000 rpm’s and unlocked it will be at 2500 rpm’s. 70 MPH is what I mean by hwy speeds.

Well… it was old tires with aggressive tread patterns that was causing it…. Find a good repair shop and leave it to the professionals. They did find and took pictures of a rusting k member that needs be watched
