I searched for this video and I am amazed at your clear teaching, which makes me express my gratitude to you, other than that I am speechless to your attentiveness and professional sharing. I think if someone asks me again, the only thing I can do is not to spare to share this experience.
great instructive video, i did my throttle body and MAF sensor at the same time earlier today. super easy job especially with your excellent demonstration. thanks Angie.
Perfect - very useful. You make it look easy - that is very encouraging. As for the music, sounds good to me. This is the second time for me to watch. I subscribed the first time I saw this. I just picked up my 2008 Prius today here in Tokyo. I paid for it a month ago, but the process to check that I have a garage and so on took all this time! Thank you for making these videos.
Thanks for posting this. I was able to clean the throttle body with no trouble. Your video helped a lot. My MAF sensor was dirty so I cleaned that as well. Made the car run a bit smoother. 👍
Thank you so much for this video and the other one regarding the mass air flow sensor! I did both at the same time on my 2006 Prius. My car is purring now instead of choking and sputtering whenever I accelerate. I would recommend using a cloth instead of a shop towel on a chopstick instead of a screwdriver. The screws on the throttle shredded the shop towel, and I had to vacuum out the pieces. Also, I was afraid that a screwdriver would do some damage. Good trick tho! I saw another video where a guy took the throttle body out of the car to clean it. Way too much work! At first the music was loud and distracting, but as I watched your video several times until I had the steps down in my head, it became the perfect accompaniment! Something interesting worth adding is that before I cleaned my throttle body and mass air flow sensor, I had the red triangle of battery death and check engine dash lights on, and the red car with an exclamation point on it on my display, indicating that my battery needed to be replaced. Also, my battery was behaving like it needed to be replaced. When I started the car in the mornings, would drop down to one purple bar after about a minute, and take about 5 minutes of driving before 3 blue bars would appear. My mileage had dropped down to 38 MPG, when it usually hovers around 45. I was convinced my newly replaced battery (9 months ago) was a dud. All I did was follow your two videos, and after driving for about 20 minutes, the triangle went out, the check engine light turned off, and the red car with an exclamation point went away, and my battery is holding its charge overnight. WTH? Scary how a little dirt can make your battery appear to fail! I wonder how many people swap out their perfectly good batteries over this? I wonder how many unscrupulous mechanics know this trick! I wonder if my original battery I replaced 9 months ago was actually ok...
Thank you for your comment I had the exact same experience until I clean air sensor and I had to delete with instrument reader some codes and it started again to work
First, thanks for this tutorial. You rock! We need more women mechanics out there. I cannot tell you how many times mechanics have tried to screw me over because they think I know nothing about cars (my dad is a mechanic and has been teaching me to work on my car). Second, if I can add something into this that I encountered when I did my throttle body cleaning-if the hose clamp is rusted and you can't unscrew it, you can still remove the housing, just follow the rest of the steps and carefully move it to the side with the hose still intact. I'm just putting this out there because I know someone is going to come across this situation and get all frantic-lol.
Thanks so much for this video! Cleaned the MAF and Throttle Body after watching. Auto Zone wanted $89 for a MAF and can't imagine what a dealership would ask to replace and then clean throttle body. Much appreciated!
Just left toyota, 105 dollars per hour to diagnose it and 200 dollars to fix it lol im about to clean mine and see if it helps. Did you have to buy a new maf or just cleaned it?
Sweet video. I just replaced my spark plugs yesterday and saw the residue in the throttle body throat Wish I had stumbled upon your video prior and would have been armed with a toothbrush!.
These videos have saved me a fortune in dealership repairs. My wife's 2007 started shaking at idle and hesitating.. I went through some of these basic repairs and it is running like new at 240,000 miles lol.
Yeah, these things are incredibly well built. I used to be scared of buying anything used with over 100k even, but I'm currently driving my buddy's '06 in 2018 and it's got 281k!!! It's perfectly fine still except for some of the engine mounts losing their rubber quality and needing swapped and also the tough screen stopped responding to touches. I bought a new digitizer but have been too lazy to get at it. Have to take the whole dash apart. Pretty minimal stuff at nearly 300k!! Averaging 42-46 mpg in the Texas heat with AC on like 75% of the year but can't complain!
@@golfish8589 well ppl go to school for something? Not everybody wanted to risk $1000 after parts for $8000 or more in depreciated asset value of a vehicle? You do what you can and people can still scam or misdiagnose. Yeah yeah, I guess.

Life saver my 2006 Prius just turned off on me on the way home and wouldn't turn back on so I put the scanner on it and the code that popped up was P2103, cleaned the throttle body and I was back on the road in no time!
If you don't have a torque wrench, could you mark one edge of the bolts with a black marker, take a picture before unscrewing, then when you screw them back down, tighten until they match the picture?
Shocked by the music volume... But honestly, yours is one the best videos on throttle body cleaning! The Procedure is correct and clear, the methods are professional and safe. Very helpful, lots of thanks!
Totally enjoyed the music. The negative comments hit the Prius owner stereotype. LOL. Had to contend with a frozen screw, and the MAF plug was a struggle. Went with the toothbrush and tee shirt, removed lots of gunk. Noticed accumulated gunk at the bottom - hard to reach. Seems to rev high at idle - residual vapors from the cleaner?
I believe so, so odd and high eving at first should be expected as it burns off the cleaner. Even stalls at first. How'd yours fair? (After 7 yrs haha)
Hi Angie+ thanks , your video is clear, do you have video on red triangle with VSC, ABS lights check engine light on? Or any one knows about it? Thanks
Ah just had my check engine light come on and the code reader said to clean my throttle body so now my gay ass is going to be working on a car for the first time ever tomorrow omg pray for me y’all
FYI just using the spray and straw is more than enough in most cases and the screwdriver. towel tape combo isn't needed. Using a toothbrush is a way better option.
spraying directly into the throttle body can be a bad idea for a lot of reasons, thats why I like spraying onto the towel then wiping everything away. A toothbrush gets the grime loose, but doesent do a good job of getting it up and out of there, but if it's working for ya that's what matters!
I don't think you have to. I didn't disconnect it and had no problems afterwards. If you do get codes, just disconnect the 12V for 5 minutes to clear; but you'll have to recalibrate the electrical windows afterwards by letting them move all the way down and up.
You're talking about the one toward the top, attached to the windshield wiper motor cover? The small box should have the relays for the windshield wipers
What a great video. I do wonder at about how many miles one should clean it. I don't know if you are a tech but, The other question I hope you can answer is: should I change the oil when the car is telling me to do it? Or every 10 K? Thank you very much
the car is automated. it will automatically tell you to after a certain mileage but you can always check the oil with the dip stick & go a little longer if the viscosity & color / levels are fine
Carolyn Talmadge There was definitely a smoother acceleration after, but it wasn't a huge difference. The dirtier your throttle plate before cleaning, the more you'll notice the difference. Thanks for asking, let me know how your car does!
