    this reminds me a bit of Chris Crawford and his game Balance of the Planet (which I've read about but not played). from what I've read it was of a similar genre where it's a simulation that consists of a ton of sliders that all relate to each other in realistic ways, and the crux of the game is to keep things balanced (can't go into too much detail since haven't played).

    This game is a game-changer, it's like going inside the minds of our heads of state and seeing what matters to them. Like looking through the looking glass, gives one a different perception on what factors end up deciding policy and agendas.
    To me what seems to matters the most is imagery and most importantly winning the next election, The basis fundamentally
    of winners and losers and don't forget the joker!

    As someone who owned Democracy 3 I want to see some of the major changes between this version and others if possible. I like having a new democracy game but if I feel like its just a reskin of the previous version with little changes then I don't have much reason to buy it.

    • @andrei1231
      @andrei1231 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I've been playing and following Democracy 4 since the early release version first came out, and the changes are honestly too many to list. Rest assured that it will feel different and improved in many ways from previous Democracy games, while generally keeping the mechanics that made them great in place.
      To go over some of the most important changes, I'll divide them into two parts. First, there's some obvious, visible changes. There's more countries, a lot more policies, situations (blue circles) and dilemmas than before, the ability to have 3 parties instead of just 2 (which changes some of the voter math, meaning you have to adjust as well), voter behaviour is more realistic now, the UI has been revamped to showcase a lot more information (and in a better way) than before - my favourite is that you can right click on any policy effect to see a graph of possible changes now! - and its just in general a lot easier to navigate the interface and get the information that you want.
      But the more important changes in my opinion are actually behind the scenes. The game's math has been completely revamped. In previous Democracy games, policy changes were linear. However, the game now uses quadratic functions to simulate the fact that in reality, policy changes have different effects when implemented at different levels. For example, increasing police funding by 20% from 0 to 20 will have different impacts than raising it 20% from 80 to 100. This was not the case in previous Democracy games. Another new thing is that policy effects can now scale based on other policies/situations. For example, a high petrol tax reduces car usage, but this is scaled by electric car adoption in your country, so if you have a lot of electric cars, petrol tax will no longer reduce car usage, for obvious reasons. Again, this was not the case in previous Democracy games, where the only things that were scaled were tax incomes/expenditures. Lastly, effects now undergo mathematical normalization, which, to put it simply, adds more long-term challenge to the game. Its much harder to max out GDP or education, or completely eliminate unemployment now - you have to put a lot more effort in to do it, and extends the longevity of playthroughs. All of this makes for much better gameplay IMO.
      Is it perfect? No, there are still some issues in terms of dubious policy effects here and there, but that's kind of a given considering its still just one guy essentially making this game like before. But I would say overall its definitely a 9/10, and well worth the new buy, especially if you're a Democracy veteran.

There are allmost no video's on TH-cam for that game and not one good game video is in english. • @Zack_Wester
      @Zack_Wester 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it is but they all are not on the same year.
      so one nation starting population % liberals/Democrats/Republicans/etc could be the 2016 election but the pop census could be the 2010 one.
      another nation political split could be the 2010 election and the census from 2010.
      but if I recall for the most part somewhat acruracte maybe some nudging for some parties numbers.
      exaple a nation having 90% social might be nudged down to 60%.

    TL;DR. Even though you can technically do anything you want, are the consequences of what you do negative if you are not woke?
    * * *
    Not a big gamer and coming from only a Civ background, I just found out about this series today and am excited about it. I liked that the official verbiage about the game says that it is supposedly free from political bias; I think it should be so that everyone can play and enjoy themselves.
    However, after watching a few video reviews and reading several written reviews of it on the Steam page., the most concerning criticism I saw was that players were saying that even though it's true that technically, you can do anything in your government that you want, ultimately, the fallout will be in line with how woke you were or not, and that ultimately, woke policies win and non-woke policies have damning consequences and most times, glaringly so. Which is true- what the developers say or how the game actually plays out?

    This was a fun game. I never played any of the earlier versions, but I got this one when it was first released in early access. I'm not sure what was "early" about it, though. It seemed to be complete to me.
    I played two countries - the United States and United Kingdom - and both went great. But is there really that much replay value? I don't know. I'd had enough after two very fun play-throughs. But maybe it's time to try it again. After all, I'm not sure how much longer democracy is going to _last_ here in the USA. :(

      He was comparing Canada to Western Europe, not the US. Plus, if you look at the number of people compared to the land mass, Canada is in the bottom 10 for countries by density.

      I mean, it's a silly word that is hard to define, but at least in the US it's heavily adopted by people who at least claim to have nationalistic and/or conservative values. Which is why I guess those have been lumped together, even if it's more complex than that. So if we go by that, then feeling pride and having a sense of ownership over a thing or a place, or wanting to conserve social and political values, tends to make people a bit (or a lot) more wary whenever other people who don't share your religion, skin color, social status, culture etc get too close.

      What does xenophobia has to do with loving one's country? In your two sentences you mixed two things that are not connected. Are patriots xenophobes? Yes. Do patriots love love their country? Yes. Where and how you made your logical leap between the two sentences and understood it as patriots=bad, I don't know.

      @@Wustenfuchs109 Being a Patriot does not mean you are a xenophobe is what im getting at. Im a Patriot and I dont hate anyone, I just love my country and have served for my country.

      @@heinz5714 What you thought you were getting at and what you actually said, are quite different, you equated yourself something that no one stated, meaning you yourself make a connection between the two.
      Also, two things, no true patriot ever said that for themselves and no man declaring themselves a patriot was xenophile - every single one was a latent xenophobe.
      That's just the multi-decade experience with patriots talking. I don't claim to know every single patriot in the world, but every single one I know (around 100 or so), usually claim they are not xenophobes until they are in a situation where they reveal to actually be one.
      Take it as you wish.
      It is true that by definition it does not have to be, semantically... but for some reason, in practice, it always goes hand in hand. What differs is a degree of xenophobia - but it is always there.
