As someone from the southern Midwest USA I’d completely agree with your assessment. Hell, even I go into a confidence store and I think, geez I just want to buy these beers eh.
I'm from my Montana and my wife is from Louisiana - people up in the PNW tend to have a bit more 'Canadian' sensibilities, and while I do love my Cajuns - at first I think I was mistaken a lot for being a bit cold, because I wasn't always keen on telling everyone my life story.

Yeah, I did a bad and deleted the VODs for Democracy accidentally -- luckily I always have a local recording as backup.

In democracy 4 I always struggled balancing the religious faction. So, you having Canada with very little religious membership sounds kinda like an easy mode. But we'll see :D
I always go hard atheist from the start (with education and tech investment), and by the time the religious start to radicalize, my economy is strong enough to support large police force, CCTV, security agencies and so on. In essence, I create technocratic fascism and don't care about religious zealots :D As far as I know, you can currently have only to mandates in Democracy 4, so radical groups rarely get the chance to grow as much. In D3 you could go for unlimited terms - now that made some problems because there are a lot of policies that piss off people in the long run that you simply don't suffer the full effect if you only have two terms to play with.
I remember in D3 I had runs with 98% support or more, running for 6th or 7th term, and then a few hundred radicals kill me.
trick is to slowly deminish their membership and get stronger gun laws, then go full aggro and go "evolution only" in school and they go straight to 0.
i do the same thing with the motorist faction and go a completely carless society (to help save the environment and stave off the food price apocalypse)
20:00 That got me in one run in Australia in Democracy 3. It said there were no religious people, and that the local radical groups could only come from your population, so I assumed because there weren't any religious people I was safe from religious assassins. And then they got me. :(

This is such a fun game! I don't know why I didn't play the earlier versions of the game. But I just finished my two terms as President of the United States - which turned out _great_ - and now I've moved to the United Kingdom. Fun!
Its prime minister here in canada just so you know. the deficit this year is unknown as the government is displaying a lack of transparency. also the debt is now over 1 trillion dollars. I hope they change those numbers to reflect the bankrupt reality.

Having never played these game has anything changed much from Democracy 3, because on the surface it looks exactly the same?
UI changed, for the better. Some options were added, like major donors and similar, and there are more events I think. In general, you got more things to do, policies have a much clearer impact (thanks to better UI), you've got more of them than before. In short, nothing radical - it is Democracy 3, just better.
I just hope they add some challenging nations to play. Those currently in are all the countries with their main customer base - naturally, in early release phase. That is what made Democracy 3 Africa interesting to me, a whole new flavor and challenge.
I mean, in D4 USA all you have to do is slowly reduce military budget and spend it on social and welfare programs while stomping religious folks and you've got the game on easy mode, Utopia run.

I have purchased Democracy games before, but this developer is just unforgivable in terms of not fixing errors in multiple generations of this game that cause the game to consistently crash for a significant portion of Windows users.

I was reeeally disapointed at chat when everyone chanted to ban Coal and Oil subsidies but not set higher standards for the Animal Agriculture Industry like wtf??
Makes sense. Subsidies mean that government is essentially paying coal and oil companies while those pollute everything and directly impact your health. Higher standards for animal farming on the other hand are not as important - simply because it is not something negative that the state is also spending money. I mean, in simple terms:
Coal and oil subsidies:
-Bad
-Government pays for it
Animal farming standards:
-Bad
So naturally one get bigger reaction than the other.
