Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying them. No sense it bashing any machine. They are all prone to similar failures, no matter the make. That's just what happens when you drive them hard off-road!
Probably would have been a good idea to replace the hub also. You know that it's worn when you have that much play in the bearing. This will get you by but it will fail again. Also you should check to see if Timken makes a replacement which they probably do. Timken is the best bearing out there.
Yeah, I did when the good replacement arrived. I just put that old hub on there to buy me some time. It worked, but that bearing was no good after maybe 20 miles. Didn't really last long at all with that torn up hub. New hubs, new bearings, and new washers are on there now. We'll see how long it lasts!
Looks the same as some GM AC clutch bearings. I bet you could find a Timken or NTN bearing with cross ref on the part number. Almost every bearing fits other things by the hundreds.
The Koyo bearing seems to be king. I haven't found another "name brand" bearing of that size which isn't astronomically priced. I'm always on the lookout though, but hopefully these ones will last a while!
I did, but my best guess is that they were cheap washers and they flattened out. I definitely would have noticed if they weren't cone shaped when I was putting them on, but when I took them off, they were perfectly flat. We'll see what the new washers do. I'm hopeful that was the root cause of the problem!
That's a Dannmar MX6. I've had it for years, and it's one of the best investments I've ever made. I use it for everything - cars, atvs, sxs, tractor.... Anything that fits! The load has to be centered or it will lift a little crooked, but I'm used to it now and love it.
Interesting - I've got 1100+ HARD miles on my ProXP4 with LOTS of Jeep trail riding and rock crawling with a healthy mix of high speed trail riding on SXS trails. I've only had to replace one bearing so far and it was slight movement, nothing near catastrophic like what you had. Stock tires, but drove the thing like a straight rental the entire time. That miscommunication on the warranty stuff is.... not a good look.
I agree, it's a little misleading on what they sent, but the Koyos are good, so overall, I'm satisfied. My bearings were awesome until about the 2000 mile mark. That's when I noticed some play. These replacements didn't last that long, but I'm suspicious of the cone washers causing the failure. It's all back together now and we have some pretty big trips planned for this year, so we'll see how long they last!
The fact the last one was different says something And how could they be mad about it on one order 1 out 4 was different haha that job sounds so hard🙂🙃
Haha yeah, I don't know. He was very apologetic in the email and sent the replacement out right away. Seemed obviously different to me, but who knows what happened at their shop. Oh well. No harm done, just cost me a little more time!
I listed all the parts I had to replace in the end. Fortunately I was able to fix the hub carriers with a minor amount of grinding. It probably would have doubled the damage cost if the hub carriers couldn't be fixed.
Kryptite bearings i got for my pro are not koyos. I got them 2 years ago. All of them crapped out. They also had rubber seals not steel seals like the polaris hd. Hopefully they updated the koyo like you show. I would go back to them I am currently running sand craft bearings. We will see how they do. Sand craft comes with all new install hardware. The nut and washer and pins.
That's good to know. Time will tell on these. After that whole mess, I currently have the original Kryptonite bearings on the left and Koyos on the right. I'll put the machine through its paces and see how they hold up, but hopefully they hold on for a while!
I have a polaris sportsman. I never had bearing problems until i put bigger mud tires on. Now i collect ballbearings i almost have a ziplock bag full. Some day i will make a bb gun that fires polaris bearings. the heavier the tire the worse it gets. Also pro tip from Alaska put right stuff silicone on the axle splines it keeps mud and water out it will help keep the splines happy form many years.
Haha that's a great idea! Free bbs might help recover some of the cost of new bearings! I'll look into the silicone. I usually add never-seize which helps a ton. It also helps that I seem to take this thing apart every month or two! Thanks!
We'll see what happens over time. I didn't have any bearing failures before I put the cheap washers on there that came with the axles. Coincidence? Maybe. Original Kryptonite bearings are on the left, new Koyos on the right. I'll know soon enough if it made a difference!
They are absolute junk wheel bearings. Ruined my hubs etc when they let loose. Warranty doesn't cover all the damage they cause. I would never run them !!!
That's what I'm worried about. I've had bearings go bad before, but usually they manifest with a little play that I notice during a regular service interval. These ones had just passed inspection, then completely let loose in one ride. I'm hopeful the new washers will help, but time will tell. Like you said, they damaged the hubs, calipers, and I lost an axle. Free bearing, but the rest did not come cheap!

Half the time lifetime warrenty high performance parts are really shitty Chinese parts that they know 3/4 of people never use their stuff and the other 1/4 lose the receipts..
That could be true. They do boast that they are "made in USA", but the replacement Koyo definitely said Japan. New ones are on, new washers, all torqued to spec... We'll see how they hold up this time! I'm just hopeful that if they fail again, it's not a catastrophic failure. I inspect the machines every 25 hours at a minimum, which is usually a short enough interval to find a bearing with a little extra play. Not this time!
I'm a big advocate for greasing the bearings first. Kryptonite does specifically say that they come pre-greased, and no additional grease should be added. I did grease the original bearings though. I will continue to grease the left side bearings, but I did not grease the right side Koyos. We'll see what happens!
Great video Chris. Ilove your repair videos, and your positive attitude. No Polaris bashing regardless of the issues.
Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying them. No sense it bashing any machine. They are all prone to similar failures, no matter the make. That's just what happens when you drive them hard off-road!
Love your setup in your garage. The videos are cool too.
Thanks! I'm glad you like the videos. Thanks for watching!
Good info on bearings being the same manufacturer 👍🏼
It was definitely an interesting find that I stumbled upon! We'll see how they compare....

"I'm cleaning out YOUR TRUCK..." xD
Haha yeah.... Fun fact, cleaning out the mess that SHE made in MY truck! Kids... :-)

Did you put the washers on the correct way?pointing out?

What kind of lift is that? Nice

You should have mentioned the damage the barring did because you could not get it to fit without you having to fix it

How many miles do you have on your car
I forget exactly, but I think it's around 3500 miles on the PRO XP right now.

And honestly where the cone shaped washer puts pressure on. Should not help prevent a failure more than the origional polaris one used should

Try greasing your bearings before you install them. They probably only have assembly lube in them from the factory.
