- This April I had the absolute honor and privilege of performing at Downey United Methodist Church as apart of the "Carpenters 55th Anniversary Acoustic Celebration" concert. Arriving home after all the festivities, I knew I needed to do a more proper recording of "Something In Your Eyes" to commemorate the experience... so here it is! This is my little "thank you" to the committee, my fellow performers, and all that attended the show.
Special thanks to Parker Bartlett for the wonderful photos, Chip Cogswell for the lovely video, and Drew Jansen for lending me the beautiful piano track! 🙂
Lead Vocals, Backing Vocals - Tori Holub
Piano - Drew Jansen

Get this young lady the resources to record professionally, and get her on tour! The whole world needs to hear her.
I'm a 58 yr old man sitting here with tears rolling down both cheeks as I lose myself in the beauty of your voice and how perfectly you replicate one of the best female singers ever to grace this planet. That's no easy task!
You do it so elegantly right down to the subtle growls at the beginning of certain words and moving through the registers flawlessly, just like Karen did.
God bless you Tori. When you are selling out venues around the world, I'll be front row, center when the tour comes to Phoenix.
Many people have tried to cover Karen's voice but none have done it this well.
Your future is bright young lady!
As a 65 Yr old man I echo your words
59 and I'm right there with you.
I'm also 59. I own the Horizon album, bought it in the Naval Station Exchange at Guam in 1975. Other than their greatest hits albums, I find Horizon to be their best album.
I am 76 years old and a Carpenters fan from the day they released their first single. I close my eyes whilst listening to you and I hear Karen's voice, especially those low notes. Never thought that anyone could ever emulate her voice, but you're it! Love it! ♥♥
I grew up listening to the carpenters. Never thought I’d hear Karen’s voice again and here she is close your eyes her voice is just so beautiful
I'm 71 and used to say the same thing...but here we are listening to Tori recreating the awesome voice of Karen...
Tori's beautiful spirit soul and voice. Thank you for sharing your joy.
You were a young man in 1970. When you’re in your 20’s we tend to listen very closely to every word and note. To sum it up, you definitely would know. I was 8 in 1970 . My favorite singers were; Elvis, the Carpenters, Jim Croce back then. By the way, I hear Karen throughout every song Tori sings.
I was only 6 in 1970. Fortunately, The Carpenters remained popular throughout the 70s so their music was ever present on the radio. As a young, budding pianist having begun lessons at age 5, my teacher was very much a fan of theirs and urged me to buy the sheet music to Top of the world, Close to you, and We've only just begun which I learned to play right away.
I don't know what better way to say it. I feel like a broken record when I keep saying your voice is angelic.
We all need to share Tori's TH-cam videos and help her gain more attention.
She has the most beautiful voice in today's world of music. Hands down.
So tempting to apply the label "a new Karen" but that would be doing this authentic talent a disservice. Tori, you're a very gifted artist in your own right. Wishing you a wonderful, fulfilling and satisfying career.
I’m not crying. You’re crying! My mum took me to see The Carpenters in 1972 when they toured Sydney Australia. I was 6 yo. We were second row centre. I remember it like it was yesterday. I thought I was watching and hearing an angel. Haven’t felt that again until now.
I don't have words to explain it. We are so blessed to have you. I'm 64 years old. You are "yesterday day once more". I was with my friend Julie Kiernan yesterday from your church in Minnesota. She knows your sister and is looking forward to working with you.
I think I know what you are feeling! I’m 65 and feeling like a grandfather! But this resurrecting of Karen through the vocal talent of Tori is inspiring! For just a moment I feel 25! lol!
Tori has one of the most beautiful voices I have heard.
Simply beautiful
Tori, you're expressing The Carpenters well. Not an easy task. Thank you.
I’m younger that as lot of carpenters fans. When i hear these songs i am teleported back in time to my grandparents house. It’s Saturday morning and I’m under their big table in the living room playing legos and listening to these tunes that my grandfather loved so so much.
I recently came across this absolutely beautiful young girl on TH-cam, and I cant stop listening to her. She's got one of the most incredibly sweet and pleasing voices I've heard in a very long time and she needs to have her name in lights where it belongs.
There is a quality Tori’s voice has…a purity, a sincerity, an “I’ve lived these lyrics” quality that is so reminiscent of Karen Carpenter. But I will say that she has her own voice, and it will take her far. I hope she can work with Richard Carpenter or someone similar who won’t try to change her style. She will be a success just as she is!
I second this.
Keep those past memories of The Carpenters; reopen again for the younger generation to experience such magic as I did at your age. I’ve been playing music for 55 years and can hear something special from you; your unique you in phrasing and such soulful singing from the heart.
Such pure soft clarity, one in a billion. Follow your dream young lady, the world be better for it. Best wishes from the UK.
I am SO HAPPY for you Tori. Tear em up love. Long live you and your incredible voice.
OMG. So beautyfull.. You gave my dad tears in his eye.. Your voice is like liquid gold..
Tori, that was beautiful. You are a class act.
I was lucky to have gone to see Karen when I was a teenager, she always made me feel so good. You have captured my heart. I would love to see you in concert too. Though you will never be Karen you have a beautiful voice. Thanks for sharing it.
so lovely
Beautiful.
Clear and perfect.
Like an Angel singing.
Thank you for sharing your gift.
All these many years I’ve never heard this song from the Carpenters, well done Tori Holub.
@nospin1394 - she never did get to record it. Have to think Karen likely would have, pretty song, just listened to it 10x while reading comments. Seems fitting to me that Tori sang it in tribute. Beautiful...Tori, Drew and all! :)
It was on Richard's first solo album titled "Time" Dusty Springfield sang the vocals for this song.
Beautifully done Tori. Looking forward to this on Spotify. I need it on my playlist.
Love those doubled and tripled overdubbed harmonies. Like with the Carpenters, the time spent on overdubbing really makes your songs sparkle and are really appreciated by those with good taste in music.
Tori… beautiful. Looking forward to seeing your career blossom.
Why no one has snapped you up yet is just mind boggling. Do not let let this voice be wasted on just covers. Your voice does in fact have Karen Carpenters tones which I heard in your 1st live performance. Try reaching out to to her brother Richard ..... you just never know. He may just have some unsung lyrics just waiting for you. Good luck Tori .... magnificent voice ......
God bless you Tori! You've got Karen's voice! You are so GOOD! Please keep on with this great music!
To state the obvious - What you do is SO important and has a huge impact on the Carpenters fandom. Thank you Tori.
Tori has to make an album her voice is wonderful
Beautiful - this stands out, as it a lesser known piece and the listener is not tempted to compare your voice to Karen's. The clarity in your voice and pitch accuracy is very impressive.
❤❤❤
This song brings me chills and smiles, absolutely beautiful song, and now my favorite voice in my world! WOW and thank you, Tori! You are one in a billion! 🥰
Wow!! Did I mention, WOW!!
Oh Tori I love it. Simply beautiful. Wonderful job. 😂
So refreshing to hear. What a class act. One of the most beautiful voices on the planet in current time. More power to you Miss Tori. "Keep on singing" [as Helen Reddy would say]. 👏
Beautiful. Always a pleasure Tori.
In some ways, I think this is the best recording she has made so far, and the most unique. Of course, it reminds us of Karen Carpenter, but tragically because it was never recorded by her, Tori's interpretation cannot be compared to anything, nor does it need to be. It is her own take on what could have been, and because of that, it lives in its own domain. Great job.
Absolutely beautiful ❤️
Thanks Tori Holub for covering the music of Karen Carpenter. Another singer I have been following for almost 4 years is LUCY THOMAS. Have a listen to her covers.. She has already 5 albums & she is only 20 years old. She is a true angel just like you Tori. May Jehovah bless you.
hi Tori for someone of such tender age to move so many you must have been magnificent in ur prior life. im glad u came back in my lifetime and hope ur blessed with songwriters worthy of you. Best, keep up the good work.
You'll have longevity in your vocals.
Please remain in that natural range you have and don't over extend.
You have beautiful vocals and I look forward to listening for years to come.
Blessing to you and your Family.
Absolutely outstanding Tori. This song of Richard Carpenter's has been waiting for you to arrive to sing it. Congratulations. Roger
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So funny because I remember Dusty Springfield singing this after Karen had passed. I always wondered what it would've sounded like had she lived to record this. That was a pretty good shot a what I imagine her rendition would be.
I was thinking the same thing. At first I was confused and thought Tori was covering a Karen Carpenter original. And then I remembered that this was actually sung by Dusty Springfield. I am so glad that Tori recorded this because it gave us a chance to hear how it would have sounded had Karen been its original singer.
This is beautiful and it sounds as if this song was written for you, Tori. Maybe Richard Carpenter can write some more for you.🙂🙂
You know what I think.... ❤
Tori has such a beautiful voice and lovely soul. I’ve been listening to her for awhile. Such a blessing to have her sharing her voice with the world.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU TORI!!!!
We wanted to be there so much but my wife doesn’t travel well. Where would we have put her wheelchair? A lot of people can sing the songs but no one can match what you do. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. ❤
Your Incredible!! Thanks!
So happy I found your videos. What a beautiful voice and expression of song. Thank you for sharing.
Tori, I am a self-described Spiritual Agnostic but you are an Angel with an Angel’s singing voice. As always, my very best to you.
OMG Tori, this is so beautiful. You’ve done full justice to this beautiful song. Seeing you live was priceless, this combination of that event with a perfect recording is even more priceless! If there can be such a thing. WOW ❤
Joe
Glad to hear you in the beginning of a nice career.
Absolutely beautiful. Seems a shame to be so often compared to Karen because the voice I'm hearing now is YOU!
Oh my, this is stunning, just beautiful.
Reach for the stars, Tori!
Amazing how beautiful your voice is 💗🙏🏻💗

Very nice
Voice of an angel. ❤
Just such a beautiful voice. I can’t stop listening. 😊. I wonder how often she has performed in front of an audience before. Looks like she did a fantastic job.
Beautiful song, sung so well. You have a lovely voice Ms Holub. Not really sure about the Karen C comparison thing, but your voice is it's own unique instrument, and I hope one day soon you release an album or some singles to showcase it. Thank you for this one. 🎶🎤💎🌈
♥️♥️♥️Love you, Tori 🌹🌹🌹♥️
Chills and goosebumps every time you sing.
Another WOW here. That was BEAUTIFUL!
Wow, just Wow! Thank you Tori!

April 19, 2004 and still going strong!
Can’t wait til I can go to one of her concerts
Please help keep Karen's gift alive! You have been blessed with a gift that the world would love to share. Thank you so very much for the joy you bring!
Thank You Tori.
Thank you for sharing this gift with us.
There was a certain face
That filled a thousand nights
With all the sweetest dreams
And promises of paradise
But that face was gone
When the dawn would come and steal you
Yet, I still could feel you
Waiting just a kiss away
I'd surely know your face
Your love would cast a spell
I'd recognize each curve and line of you,
I knew it well
Now at last you're here and I can tell
Something in your eyes I see
Is all I ever wanted
And something in your smile for me
Is calling out my name
Your eyes, it seems
Are mirrors of my dreams
In ways I can't explain.
And my heart will never be the same
We never said a word
As if we'd always known
But through the bittersweet of waiting
We were not alone
Now we're close enough
For the touch of love to find us
Fantasies designed us
But they never really could
Begin to measure you
No pictures ever do
And as I watch you framed in sunlight
In a sky of blue
I know what my life's been leading to
Something in your eyes I see
Is all I ever wanted
And something in your smile for me
Is calling out my name
Your eyes, it seems
Are mirrors of my dreams
In ways I can't explain.
And my heart will never be the same
Something in your eyes I see
Is all I've ever wanted
And something in your smile for me
Is calling out my name
Your eyes, it seems
Are mirrors of my dreams
In ways I can't explain.
And my heart will never be the same
And my heart will never be the same
Something in your eyes
Wow, that was beautiful! Thank you!

You have such a wonderful voice. I wish the best for you, you are amazing.
Immediately subscribed the first time I heard your voice. Been spreading your story and sharing your songs. Grew up in the 60s and 70s, so all you do is my kind music..... Looking forward to watching your career take off!!

What a better way to honor Karen's memory than doing an amazing job on covering one of her songs!! Well done Tori, you always do an amazing job when you cover these beautiful songs!! Keep up the great work keeping Karen's memory alive through your covers of The Carpenters songs!!
Wow! I love this studio version. Simply Awesome!
Absolutely wonderful Tori! Thank you!!!😄❤
Wow, waiting for this for the longest time, Tori finally singing this song in full, wish Tori would do "In love alone" a song composed by Richard Carpenter.
Beautiful music.
Beautiful!!
Superb!
that voice is so angelic; gift from you know who, so gentle, goes directly to my heart in thanksgiving for that voice of yours!!
You have a wonderful instrument, Tori. Thank you for keeping Karen's light alive (though this was Richard's song). But I'll give you the same advice I would have given Karen: I would love to hear you sing your own songs, as well.
Karen was always my favorite voice, so thank you so much Tori for respectfully and masterfully performing these songs. Greetings from Sweden!
